It wasn't necessarily "illegal" for a company to deny third-party software for their system.. There was a precedent set when Atari tried to block Activision from developing VCS software (Atari lost, which opened the floodgates for anyone to create VCS software.. that's why there are so many titles), but that didn't make it a "crime" to disallow it.. They can do what they want, but they couldn't sue third parties for creating software.. that's all it meant.
@bsilver887 You are the first ever to complain about the music. Everybody emails me telling me it's awesome. How does it feel to be a loner... a rebel?
@dommiesan wow, i didnt expect such animosity towards a fan. way to make things personal for no reason. im just saying, anything looping for more than 3 minutes just gets annoying. its great theme music for the beginning, i loved it.
@fred7699 well, can you blame him? I admit the loop is a little annoying sometimes, but bsilver887 basically insulted his theme music, his video style, called him an amateur...wouldn't you be ticked off at that? If you don't like it, leave it. I think that is nice here. Perhaps he was just grumpy when he wrote that comment.
@bsilver887 You're right its too repetitive. Even worse is how only the speech comes out of the right channel and background music out of the left. It's nit-picking but it's amateurish, no doubt.
@bsilver887 I kinda dig the music.. Its running in the background adds to the tone of the video's content..
However, I am not a fan of intros in short videos.. I've seen some videos where the intro video is two minutes long, and the actual content is like thirty second.. LMAO!
Protip: Limit videos to no more than 5% of the total video length.. :)
I have had may consoles since the 80,s, but never been interested in the intellivision, probably because my second console was the colecovision, which had such good graphics and games for its time. I did see an intellivision on display in a store in the 80,s though.
If I'm not mistaken that's the old standard 9-pin controller port. Could you use other controllers like the Genesis pad, like you can with the Atari and Colecovision? (assuming a game doesn't require the number pad)
@AWriterWandering I have yet to try it, but it could be possible. the only problem is ALL Intellivision games require the keypad to start a game - you typically have to enter how many players and what skill level first before a game starts. And that disc controller isn't exactly a D-pad, so I'm not sure how well that'll translate.
I used to have one of these for a brief while, back when I was a kid (early 90's). Fun games, but the games were a little too simple for my taste (I prefered the NES style games).
@dommiesan Actually your your camcorder only records to the right channel so the left speaker only has music, no voice. You would need to copy the right channel to the left channel to solve the people with mono's problems and people with headphones.
Great review Dommie and that system is in great shape with the box and all. Do you have an Intellivoice by chance? I love the classic Intellivision for sure.
@VargasXX78 I have various suppliers. I have a special treat for today's video from 1 of my new Japanese suppliers. Old school Famicom fans will flip out!
Great review as always. Just one thing I think would be cool in the future: when you do a review for a follow-up console like this, it would be nice to see the original next to it. The only thing I thought was missing here was a side by side with an original Intellivision so that I could see how much smaller they made it. Other than that, loved the video. Keep 'em coming!
The PS2 slim has a similar design for the power on/off/reset system, and I'm not a big fan of that design either. Is it that difficult to put a seperate button on there, or just eliminate the reset function all together?
Well I wouldn't say the Intellivision 2 is "sleaker" really. It's the cheap-o version of the first Intellivision. But it was really cool seeing one with a box and everything again. Awesome video. INTELLIVISION LIVES!
@vintagevideogamegeek Are they 3rd party or Mattel game? I thought my first one was broken for the longest time until I read about the EXEC chip in the Intellivision 2s. Turns out I was only testing it with Carnival and Donkey Kong, which don't work in that unit.
Sadly when I got my Intellivision II it only had one controller. But still a great little machine. I dont own to many 3rd party games so its ok for what I need it for. Takes up so much less room than the Intellivision woody...lol
Intellivision I controllers weren't actually hard-wired, they were plugged in from the inside. But it was a weird I think proprietary plug, so they were still very hard to replace.
@DrStrongBad I've replaced them on the original Intellivision before - you have to take the console apart and they are wired to 2 small plugs on the motherboard. For all intents & purposes, they're hardwired. But yes, they fit onto the motherboard by 2 micro plugs like the kind you see on most motherboards - single row female pin micro plug, 9 pins I think. Not proprietary, but in the realm of computer repair parts, etc - not for the average consumer to replace.
@Infinitrium You can find an AC adapter that works, it's just very tough to track down. I'd start by taking the console in to a Radio Shack and see if they can outfit an AC power unit. Be warned though - those AC units that get into the custom range can be expensive. I paid about $25 for one for my Japanese Sharp Twin Famicom.
If you need games, I have them in stock in my store with prices to fit all budgets. :)
damn i bought 2 boxes of Intellivision stuff like 4 years ago it came with the model 1 system and 2 model 2 systems, 2 Intellivoice units and an atari 2600 and like 60 Intellivision games all in boxes w/ instructions and those plastic over lays i paid 25 bucks and sold it all for 350 bucks i guess i should of held on to it longer oh well
@crippledbazooka He already did a review of Tron Deadly Discs for the Atari 2600. It was one of the first few he did, just check way back at the beginning.
cool. my grandpa bought one of these on a trip to the states. found it in a bargin bin and brought it home. its still set up at his house and my family still sometimes plays frogger, burger time, river raid. good times
4 people don't...ah, forget it. I don't have anything new to say. Hm.

I got my system with no adapter and found it can work with 12 volt dc
on getting a intellavoice try atari2600 web site he has original type for $7.95 looks kinda funky on this system but will work
and if your lucky enough to find one of the white ones updated to match this system consider yourself lucky the can be quit hard to find
