  • I own several version of Evita soundtracks and I have to say that Madonna is my preferred Eva. She isn't as screechy as LuPone or as good-girl sounding as Julie Covington. But she could still use a little more power to her voice.

  • I love the ending to this song, "star quality." No truer words spoken for Eva (or M for that matter.)

  • she was so great in this scene.

  • this is brilliant

  • DADDY THE SULTAN OF BRUNAI, YOU SEE ANTONIO BANDERES HE LEFT AND I HAD TO SING FOR ARGENTINA UNTIL HE DECIDED TO BE MY COMPANY.

YEAH BUDDY MY NAME IS EVITA.

  • idk why but i just love this song <3

  • Madonna or no Madonna, Alan Parker's direction is flawless.

  • @jefffreemanpresents right on :)

  • @jefffreemanpresents If dull as dish water.

  • @emlodik Really? Hmmm... I've always thought Parker imbibed every moment with action and intention that existed beyond the music. I feel the same way about The Wall and Fame. He knows so well how to create drama onscreen.

  • I wish they would have used someone who had a powerful voice like Patti. To me the way Madonna sings this just does not do this song justice... or any of the other songs.

  • @abb9211 The movie version of this songs must to be soft, a little loud-less. You are watching a movie not seeing a broadway performance. If in the movie I hear the Patti LuPone's screams, I go crazy!!

  • Madonna was perfect for this role. I bet Eva Peron would be proud if she could see it.

  • This is the musical we are doing in choir... I know nothing about it .__.

  • Fuck you all !!! Madonna wanted it and she got it !!! And yes mother fuckers She can sing and very well !!!! She killed it !!!! Golden Globe !!!!! Suck on that :)

  • madonna was beautiful in this movie <3 xxxx <3 xxxx

  • No other actress could have guaranteed the financial backing for this movie at the time. Madonna was so right for this part in many ways but vocally she under sings the role - which is a surprise and disappointment. It's all a bit soft and tender when there needs to be aggression and bite!

  • @Dianaemanuel I disagree about her vocal style. I think she sings it quite strongly. The intonation, pitch, timing, her overall interpretation of it is brilliant. In fact, she underwent voice lessons for this role and it improved her voice immeasurably, as is evident in her CDs released after she made Evita.

  • This is my favourite song from Evita

  • agree..

  • Madona is a Cow and the only reason this is so popular is because of Madonna. They did not portray Evita properly. Evita was good to herself and she's missing tons of jewelery. My mother was friends with Evita :)

  • Okay so Madonna has a wonderful voice, but she's missing the emotion of this song. Needs more determination for sure. Patti goes fucking bonkers, take a tip guuurl. However, I love the way she says "that's" after the key change at 1:23.

  • i hate all the negativity. madonna did a fabulous job in this role. she looked the part and sang/acted it very well. believe me i love patti lupone too. patti took on the role of eva peron more powerful while madonna was more quiet. they both had different takes on the part but they were both fantastic! bravo!

  • @jetsaguilera I dislike madonna and I still think she did well though her voice is so weak. I wish Ken Russell had made this with Liza.

  • If only Madonna could sing.

  • i think evita was just trying to make argentina look good, the only problem was that she was did so much so quickly they beleived in her and relied on her, so when she died they lost there beleife and everything went out of hand... :(

  • way to destroy a great broadway musical!

  • why would you wear fur coats in a hot country

  • madonna's voice has some unique essence :P

  • i love madonna but what is the thing on her head in the beginning?

  • @gnahzanehta Exactly. The lyric should be "let's get this thing off my head" instead of "let's get the show on the road"

  • I'm here cause of Lisa :P

  • The real Eva actually wanted to put "Queen" in front of her name in all of her posters, pics etc. but at the time it was against the law. Woman stop worrying about what u put on you're anorexic butt and worry about how the hell u r gonna keep Musolinni out of the country. FIX UR COUNTRY AND THEN FIX UR WARDROBE!

  • I prefer Jason Steele singing this song...

  • This really is the only song I think Madonna does well in this movie. Patti is better, but madonna does well.

  • @JAKEHasArrived i second that.

  • Lauren Bacall ! :D

  • @FlaxenHairedBeauty I, too, love the Lauren Bacall reference. Bacall is such a star!

  • ThePeeper1968...Madonna's voice is absolutely BEAUTIFUL in Evita...It's one of the reasons why she won a Golden Globe for her roll in Evita.

You cannot compare Elaine to Madonna...not only is Madonna the world's best female entertainer EVER...she also looked EXACTLY like Eva Peron.

In fact, Madonna wanted to sing Don't Cry For Me Argentina on the original balcony, the President of Argentina said no UNTIL he met her and he was STUNNED at how Madonna looked like Eva Peron

  • @ftlmatt Madonna has like the default female face. You can never recognize her and she can look like anyone.

  • The one and only Queen of Pop!!!!!!!!!!! Her voice is brilliant!!!!!! Her Madgesty!!!! God save the Queen!!

  • Just visited the musical in Düsseldorf.

  • ok i need opinions from people with taste. (anyone who is watching an andrew lloyd webber video on youtube) for my final should i sing this or I Don't Know How To Love Him? (I'm a soprano but have a huge range)

  • Her voice is crap, Elaine was so much better

  • 15 years later and I still know the lines

  • @kryceksangel AGREED I watched this first when I was 12. :]

  • Sarah Palin.

  • Madonna and Evita are... so... incredibly alike in so many ways. Madonna was born 6 years after Evita died. Many people will think me crazy, but I think... that Madonna is the reincarnation of Evita.

  • the paintings were specially done for the film and are madonna

  • amo essa cena!! ;D

  • Get you Pearlypops!

  • I really like Lisa's version x3

  • I really like Lisa's version x3

  • I actually think Madonna is a fine choice for Evita... my real problem is what they do IN the movie. They take out so many of the lyrics that indicate what a disaster Eva and Peron were for Argentina... and they try to make this woman out as a hero and sympathetic when she's so unsympathetic in the actual musical.

  • I would interpret this song, if placed on its own, very differently. The way the chorus sings 'Eyes, hair, mouth, figure, dress, voice, style, movement, hands, magic, rings, glamour, face, diamonds, excitement, image,' doesn't evoke dolling Eva Peron up. It instead evokes to me thoughts of machinery. The rhythmic way it is sung suggests a mechanical tone in dressing rather than fluidity. Of course, that's just my interpretation.

  • Do you have Rainbow Tour ?

  • This was lowered and she STILL can't sing it right. I hate Madonna's singing. Her technique is god-awful. Thank goodness the rest of the people in the movie have talent and that it's visually well done.

  • @beatlemaniac487 Can you sing even half as good? No? Didn't think so. Thank goodness the rest of us don't have to hear it.

  • @CuteIsWhatIAimFor143 He or she has a right to his or her opinion. Leave him or her alone. Don't be a fascist.

  • @hotelmario510 Everyone has a right to an opinion, but there's no need to put a negative comment on here, when this page is for her music. If you don't like it, don't listen to it because we don't care if you like it or not.

  • @CuteIsWhatIAimFor143 How was that a negative comment....?

  • The audio in this video is screwed up. In the actual film/soundtrack it's in a lower key. This video makes it sound like she's singing higher than she actually did.

  • @EvanOz85 PAL speedup.

  • Sarah Palin.

  • Ew. Why didn't they just cast Meryl Streep and have a masterpeice?

  • I love this movie. The parts I love best are when they actually show Eva.

  • BOOOOOORING. The most exciting and terrifying moment in the show and Madonna screws it up.

  • I love this movie.

    I love MADONNA

  • When you think of it, don't all the current politicians have a bit of Evita in them? Ambition knows no bounds. Some have fewer scruples, some are more inept, but some are better at fooling the public.

    (please don't name names).

All are liked or disliked depending on the voters' mindset of what is good for them, not the country, not others, but how do THEY benefit???

  • I prefer Lisa Simpons "I am their queen" so funny--

  • @ampollapiratas Of course, it's a parody...

  • I wish I could be 'María Eva Duarte de Perón' affectionately known as 'Evita'. Helping the poor, taking from the rich. Fantastic woman and worthy of being a saint.

  • my favorite song throughout the whole movie :P

  • Madonna's voice is amazing in Evita!!

  • hey twilit, thats a great question which i never really thought about even though i've seen this film about 100 times. the answer requires knowledge of philosophy or psychology (which i dont have) and appears to be related to deceit or cunning, perhaps used in this scene by eva to express her need to look larger than life and fantastically rich which while she was in a sense she also wasn't. it's a great question that could require a thesis to know why rice/webber chose the reference.

  • what does machiavell mean?

  • @thetwilitprincesses

Machiavelli was a 15th/16th century italian philospher he is also thought to be one of the founders of modern politcal theory.

Machiavellian basically means to decieve and manipulate someone for gain.

So i think it was possibly used in relation to the word because the song is describing Eva manipulating the public with her image.

  • CAn her voice be any freaking lighter?!?!? Her freaking voice is to freaking this. Eww I'll take Patti over Madonna ANYDAY!!! My god ew.

  • @broadwayloverny10 so, why are you watching and commenting on this particular clip? Snobs like you never cease to amaze me. If you think Patti is so much greater and better than Madonna, wouldn't it make better sense to just go to a clip of Patti Lupone singing this and commenting on it instead of this one?

  • hey @eiknujcisuma - right on! no question hands down find the motion picture more entertaining, fascinating and interesting than the stage production btw, any and all hard core evita the motion picture fans must get a hold of the november 1996 issue of vanity fair and read the madonna diaries. besides a great photo spread, it is madonna's first person account of her quest to secure permission from the argentine govt to use the real casa rosada for the film.

  • @eiknujcisumahey @eiknujcisuma - right on! no question hands down find the motion picture more entertaining, fascinating and interesting than the stage production btw, any and all hard core evita the motion picture fans must get a hold of the november 1996 issue of vanity fair and read the madonna diaries. besides a great photo spread, it is madonna's first person account of her quest to secure permission from the argentine govt to use the real casa rosada for the film.

  • @soymarcojesus yeah! the casa rosada was used, but then this movie was banned here (I'm argentinean)

  • @eiknujcisuma Well look at Patti's and you get some of the same comments, although more of them are not as bad you still get the insulting comments. That how youtube is deal with it. I did comment on Patti's, and there are many people who are commenting the same way on this vid so why take it out on me? I'm not a snob, do you understand that definition? One who tends to patronize, rebuff, or ignore people regarded as social inferiors and imitate, admire, or seek association with people.

  • US descomisados need an evita

  • Madonna wouldn't have even been a considered under study for Patti Lupone. This movie was horrific.

  • @Jmaybrick2001 Patti Lupone was great on stage. I didn't favor Madonna.

However, I think this film and performance are brilliant!

  • patti is the only eva!! madonna sux

  • i love this anytym, anyday...

  • I prefer this version over Patti's.

  • Patti does it with soul and guts. I don't hear that in Madonna.

  • her eyes are dead!

  • The pitch in this video is way too high. Perhaps to avoid being blocked?

  • @EZYCHEESY Are you being sarcastic?

  • The pitch on all these videos is significantly higher than in the original movie. Was that done on purpose? I checked the DVD to make sure.

  • Awww. she tried to do this song justice and almost succeeded.

  • Eva Person was a whore, well documented for sleeping her way to the top. She did not help the poor out of love or concern. She did it to keep herself in power, so she could have 8 fur coats and a jewelry collection said to rival Cleopatra. (This ain't Mothere Theresa we're talking about)

  • can i just make it clear for all the people who don't seem to know this. Eva Peron hated the rich and the rich only. Not because they were rich, not because they wore expensive clothing and went to fancy parties. She hated them because until she became one of them she was cast aside and belittled and she felt that she deserved better than that. It also makes it very clear in the movie that people from the middle class stopped her from attneding her own fathers funeral. she held a grudge

  • lovely

  • Is the picture at :53 of Madonna or Eva?

  • @MrChillwill1226 I'm not sure.. could be Evita! ;)

  • @stambeccuccio well, whoever it is, she's beautiful ;)

  • @MrChillwill1226 ..I agree with you ; )

  • I think its Madona-based on an actual photo of Eva.

  • @stambeccuccio it is diffo madonna

  • @TheSarahDalton In this movie, Evita and Madonna are very much alike, not only physically and makeup, but also in the path of life ..

In my opinion, the stories of these two figures are very similar in many ways ..

The Evita's life could be the Madonna's life and.. to the contrary.

That is the greatness of this magical Musical and Madonna! ;)

  • @stambeccuccio this song is very material girl, very madonna!

  • @stambeccuccio It's madonna

  • @stambeccuccio No way. It's Madonna, clearly.

  • @stambeccuccio Madonna (The real Evita does not Appear at any point in the movie even in newspaper photos)

  • @pathwalkerx The Paintings Are of Evita not Madonna

  • @stambeccuccio It's Madonna

  • @MrChillwill1226 @.53 it is 100% Madonna, 100% sure.

Thanks for uploading most of this movie stambeccuccio!! It s been ages I saw it, loved it and the music as a teen in spite of normally not liking musicals.

I liked the pre-election, "yes we can" :) change period, the run for elections.. I noticed you cut A new Argentina short, why? Also wasn't there a short wedding scene? anyways, great uploads!!

  • @MrChillwill1226 It's Madonna! No eva-picture in this movie is original

  • @MrChillwill1226 it's madonnna

  • @MrChillwill1226 I'm pretty sure it's Madonna

  • @MrChillwill1226 Madonna! :)

  • @MrChillwill1226 I think its a image of Madonna redone as from Eva.

  • @MrChillwill1226 Its madonna

  • @MrChillwill1226 IT'S MADONNA ALRIGHT!!

  • @MrChillwill1226 Madonna

  • @MrChillwill1226 the portrait looks like the real Eva, the newspaper pic soon afterwards is Madonna. :)

  • @MrChillwill1226 I think it could be madonna because I think that eva's hair was a shade or two lighter then madonna's

  • @MrChillwill1226 Madonna

  • @MrChillwill1226 its madonna

  • WOW, Its super cool that computers can EVEN MAKE fake vibrato these days! Seriously Andrew...next time choose your actress based on talent and not fame.

  • i agree that she should have won an Oscar for her brilliant performance...she wasn't even NOMINATED!!

i mean not only is Madonna amazing as Eva Peron, but she looks just like her!!!

i am glad she did win a Golden Globe though, and she looked absolutely beautiful and stunning on stage when she made her acceptance speech. the dress she was wearing, her hair and make up...

  • Madonna's vocals are both powerful & amazing, she should have won an Oscar but I guess a Golden Globe is pretty good.

  • i LOVED Evita...I LOVE YOU MADONNA!! this is one of my favorite songs and scene from Evita...you can tell that her voice lessons REALLY paid off, she sounds amazing !!

  • this is an awful version of Rainbow High. Go listen to Patti LuPone. She's the real deal!

  • My native language is Greek (Cypriot Dialect)

And English Has no correct spellings in many cases

over the last few centuries the spelling rules have changed several times

For those of us who come to English as a second or third language its down right confusing

Also technically the language of You tube is American English which is even more confused

  • @pathwalkerx I understand what you're saying. I'm sorry if I seemed rude to you. But English is my native language and I'm glad I grew up with it. I agree with you on Eva and Peron though.

  • Either spelling is Valid (so is Fachista) there are plenty of spellings (and English is not my language of choice)

  • @pathwalkerx well, but if you're going to type in English, you should get the spelling correct. I've only ever seen it spelled FASCIST. And I've never seen it spelled the way you spelled it. Not trying to be rude. Just trying to point out the spelling. What is your native language?

  • They were NOT Nazis

    Peron was a FACIST

The Nazis were basically a bunch of morons without any real guiding beliefs (other than that Germans were Aryan (a term that means IRANIAN))

  • @pathwalkerx right, they were not Nazis. But they did harbor them. And it's spelled Fascist, not facist. Peronism was a bizarre mix of fascism and socialism. It does not work. I've lived in Argentina, so I know that it doesn't work. I saw that firsthand. Other than that, you are right.

  • @GoddessofCoruscant if you lived in argentina, I can assume that you can speak spanish? Sabes lo que era el Peronismo en verdad? o preferis el Radicalismo? O el gobierno militar? Sos la oligarquía en el más puro estado.

  • Evita dressing herself up like the rich while at the same time condemning them and stealing from them. Hypocricy at its finest!

  • @GoddessofCoruscant Oh sweetie, Eva did not hate the rich for wearing expensive clothing. U should know this Andromedawhatsyourface or whatever other username you have used throughout your various stages of confusion. she hated them for other reasons, the clothing had absolutely nothing to do with it. Side with the rich all you want but there is also a large portion of the populace who have clashed with them & Eva sided with them. She was also a 1st LADY, did U expect her to dress in rags? LOL.

  • Madonna is just beautifull

  • "you either loved her, or hated her"

  • @Taelin11285 she fooled the people that loved her.

  • @GoddessofCoruscant and skillfully. She knew everything that went on and seemed to enjoy putting the daughters of ogliarchs in prisons with prostitutes. And jailing their sons as well. For all that Madame Mao was worse, Evita is just as guilty as Madame Mao in that she instigated and encouraged it.

  • @TheNuharoo yes, I know about all of it. the only good thing Eva did was get women the vote. But even in doing that she stole the accomplishment from real Argentine feminists. I agree with you. The cons of Evita far outweigh the pros.

  • I have been blocked from posting in Miketayfan site...LOL, he must really have soft side for this whore. This what I wanted to post:

LMFAO @ you Mike....You accuse me of using a musical as my standard to project my hatred for Eva, yet you use the same soundtrack to draw viewers to make your own judgment on why she was a people person...hypocrite!

  • @storm915 he's blocked me too-- don't feel bad about it. Peronists cannot handle differences of opinion.

  • @storm915 however, b eing a whore was the least of her problems. The issue was her politics. As for me, I hate no person. I hate poisoned ideologies like Peronism that hurt people, especially people who did nothing to deserve it. Anyone walking away from such ideologies can be a friend of mine. Anyone entangled in these ideologies I want nothing to do with.

  • Madonna was a perfect actress in that movie...!

  • You wanna to be treated nice, great, like queen? Madonna - you just a magic in reality.

  • madonna did a good job in playing evita i giv her props

  • why didn't my comment show up?

  • and Rainbow Tour?

  • @AmuroRei89 it's not on here for some reason.

  • you know what? I really hate youtube now. It's not letting me delete my comments. *sigh*

  • i love madonna!

  • Eva had changed a lot at the end of her life indeed. She wore modest but expensive suits and trademark chignon all the time.

She marked her clothes only with one big jewel or nice set of earrings. Personally I think 40 ties styles made her very glamourous. Still she based it on some Hollywood stars like Lana Turner. But when she developed that unique image of hers, she became Evita and got that special aura. She was her own woman. From that point women wanted to copy her ! ;)

  • @Miketayfan hahaha, changing history does not make it true. No one emulated her, she imitated the "Hollywood Stars" of her days, that is what she strived for all her life...to be a STAR!

  • @storm915 Deflecting based on hate for Eva Peron won't make it true either ;) Though I always thought I'm still more accurate because I do not take musical as historical source like you do.

BTW where have you been all this time ? LOL!

Yes she did want to be a star. She did that one time, true... but when she found her own style she became a star of her own name: Evita - the poor people's champion.

  • @Miketayfan I'm afraid he's right about Eva.

  • @evaperonfan Yes, he might be right she emulated Hollywood stars at time and wanted to be a star as well. But my point is she reached finally her own style and stopped being Norma Shearer or Lana Turner wannabe and started beingmply herself, an icon - Evita. That's finding your own style. That's it.

  • @Miketayfan Hey, real life gets in the way sometimes..but back to Eva, I don't judge her by a musical, it's her actual life I judge her by and not the fairy tale you and others have made of her.

As evaperonfan always ask: why do I hate her..it's comes from a deeper reason other than a musical!

  • @storm915 I do feel like I wasted my time writing that book about her, but at least it taught me how to research and write, and I'm now writing an alternate history where women would have had more rights, and Evita wouldn't have existed--- so perhaps I didn't waste my time. Besides, I'm not getting many sales anyway. And I've changed my hero- it's Elizabeth I now.

  • @evaperonfan you did waste your time writing that book. And you're not getting sales b ecause th e musical is far more popular, far more successful, and told the truth, not a whitewash like you did. But at least you've moved on to other projects. I wish you luck in your future career. Forget about Evita, forget about your failed novel.

  • @storm915 good for you! Evita haters= good people. Evita lovers= bad people!

  • @storm915 here, here! I've studied Evita for a long time, and the cons far outweigh the pros. People like Miketayfan and evaperonfan do not understand the realities of Peronism. I have two Argentine friends in my hometown that suffered Peronism under their own skins, and they say that Argentina was very rich before the Perons and now they are very poor. Also, I've been blocked from miketayfan's vids. no surprise there.

  • @storm915 I don't know if too many people realize this, but each time a former actress is somehow able to become a First Lady, they're the worst tyrants. The wife of Chairman Mao was filled with rage, hate, revenge, and her reputation was not good since she was an actress. I wouldn't trust any of them in any governmental position. The reason she was so hated by many was the damage she did to Argentina, poor and wealthy alike.

  • @TheNuharoo yes, you're right there. Madame Mao was far worse than Evita though. Not that I'm defending Evita, I'm just saying Madame Mao was worse. Madame Mao actually killed people herself, if I'm not mistaken. Evita only ordered people tortured, but her enemies came out alive. Not that torture is ok-- but there's a difference, albeit a small one.

  • @TheNuharoo and Evita's defenders like to say 'there is no proof.' that she tortured people. However, I have to say that she had to have been blind and dumb if she didn't know what was going on. And if she was the saint her followers make her out to be, she would have done something to stop it. But she didn't-- which speaks volumes about her true character. I've studied Eva for a long time, so I know this,.
