it sounds good on its own... but with the band, its looses its sound.. it doesnt cut thru or blend in with other instruments... even you crank it, it sounded worst.. word of advice... stick to yamaha 1st or roland piano... nord lead is good too..
I played the Nord Electro 3 and the Korg SV-1 side by side for hours before finally buying the Korg. For me, the Korg had much better Electric and Accoustic Piano sounds. Sure the Nord as more sound tweaks and probably a better organ sound. But I find I need good piano sounds much more than organ in the music I play. I love the retro look. And with the price difference I was able to buy a nice Roland keyboard amp!
This keyboard is SICK, and I play keys and would love to have one. but would someone buy this over another keyboard to use as their main rig? IMO, probably not. and at a list price of over 2G's for the 88 key, who would buy it as a side-piece? Just saying, the market for something like this seems like it would be pretty slim
@MrRockermocker What are you talking about? :D lol This is the best choice for main keyboard for this price! If you know better choice for same price, you can tell me.
Played this at my local Guitar Center the other day and I have to say that the organ sounds are generally sub-par when it comes to Hammond sounds. Vox and Farfisa sounds, are okay when you tool with the effects. Wurli and Rhodes sounds are fab, and the piano sounds are run of the mill. Clav sounds are mint on it. But it feels really nice to play on. It's quite a quandary of an instrument.
anyone who is thinking of buying this visit the Korg forums first! Korg sucks & the SV-1 is yesterdays news to them, so virtually no support. THe only control you have over any of the sound is EQ & FX, which in the case of th former is only 3 band with a sweepable mid (even in the editor). Some of the patches have too much sustain & you'll have to wait until Korg gets ready to have something that minor fixed. I kept my SV-1 for 3 months hoping the best... It's gone now! Sounds good for EP (only)
To make a comparison, the SV-1 is a Zune to Nord's iPod. Marketed at first as a Nord Stage Killer, it doesn't even come close. The key action is horrible, and without exaggeration, i've heard better hammond simulations coming from a Casio keyboard - plus it's just presets, there's no drawbars. It's laughable. Wurli and Rhodes are the only things that sound good. If you're looking for an all-in-one solution, do yourself a favor and play around with a Nord before you buy this. You won't regret it.
iTS shit! only the rhodes sounds Good! very Good! I tried it 2 hours... I play on Rhodes Hammond organ with 122 leslie and the Organ sounds terrible on The Sv1! The piano could be better! Prefer yamaha CP1!
Hiya. Love the video! Can you split the keyboard? And if so can you choose where to split it? I'd like to be able to play organ in my left hand and piano in my right for classic reggae bubbling. If I can, I'm buying this!
Hi Rich, awesome video's on the SV-1. I'm buying one this week. But can you tell me, is there a transpose function on it? My bands all play in transpose -1 (1 semitone downtuned) and seeing how there is no menu on the SV-1 i can't think of a way of transposing. Thank you in advance for your help!
@tvseal0001 ...I'm amazed at your comment, but then again, I clicked on your name, saw you were playing a Nord, and that said everything. Most people who are suckered (sorry, couldn't resist) into a Nord don't get it. I kid, I kid.
The Korg has stronger Rhodes and Organs - but you have to A/B them in person, not over YouTube. The Nords action is not as good as the Korg, but neither are better than the Yamaha CP300's action.
Grands - the Nords might have an edge, but it isn't much of an edge.
Couple of Questions to sweetwater sound; I'm like, 90% convinced, but how does the acoustic Piano tones sound when put through an amplifier or PA system? with my current setup, the top end gets lost and the bottom and middle just sound muddy, even after massive tinkering during soundcheck.
also, how do the XLR outputs compare to standard DI boxes in terms of signal strength and reliability?
I already have the Hammond XK3C, so this is for the acoustic and electric pianos and Clav mainly.

@TheAleksMichel Hi there. Thanks for checking out the video. All of these keyboards have RH3 action — it's a weighted action that's made to respond like the feel of playing a piano.
word to the wise. the same exact samples are in the korg ps60 for a lot cheeper. if you hooked it up to a midi controller it would be the same instrument. this kind of marketing makes me sick. what happend korg? slackin hard.
thats funny I just checked that out. yeah it sounds like the same sample but with deferent action. WoW! what a rip off. yet another reason for me not to buy this. it really seems to be geared towards the kids who fantasize about living in the 60's and 70's. it could've been so much cooler if they made more samples to downloading. and the 73 should've been a dull black, to look like tolex. I liked the red at first but now it just reminds me of midlife crisis.lol if that makes any sense.
this keyboard is a sad and poor atempt to match Clavia's products. They even builded it red!!!
The thing is they could never match Clavia because of a simple reason: PRESET MENTALITY. Korg Gives you a millon presets based on ten or fifteen sound with very smar variations... and the changes YOU can do are minimum.
Clavia gives you the sound, the FX, the EQ and knobs to make it work!
korg people: stop trying to make it look cool and make it work!!!
so can any SV1 owners tell me if you can use the editor to get more of a early Mark 1 tone on the Rhodes (herbie). cause I wanna get one, but I need to know if I can customize this thing to suit my needs as a rhodes player.
Herbie? I think not ... why you might ask? because they only sampled one lame ass rhodes from the eighties.. mark v. and if they did sample a M1( like they say ) then they did it wrong. wouldn't be so bad if it was in the mix with better rhodes sounds. this thing is all about the looks... its like a dumb blonde, sure she's hot... but then she opens her mouth. $800 tops. the more you research it the more you find its short coming. its a joke!
I think they did sample a M1 but you're right it does sound like a mark V. I wish you could get more samples for it. I was so close to buying one but I did a couple blind tests so I wouldn't be dazzled by its pretty looks and I was not feelin it. I'm gonna spend the extra money and get a nord electro and hook it up to my midi controller. ogan clav on top, eps and piano on the bottom. The only thing I kinda liked I the sv1 was the upright.
it is a nice jam. i've had a chance to play roland v-piano and i may say it's the best sound. would get nord, as they do have various sounbanks, korg just copied the nord electro 3. but both toys sound is sterile when it is about piano.

I had about 20 minutes with it and liked it very much for the most part. It has a nice
B-3 "sound" but it won't work for a serious organist because it doesn't allow a split keyboard with two different drawbar settings on each side of the split.
@ryancangri I own both an SV-1 and Lounge Lizard. At first I thought Lounge Lizard was better, but after some recording comparison, I found the SV-1 sounds fuller and richer than the LL. It also does'nt tax your computers RAM. But I like LL too.
Compare to clavia stuff it's very bad, i have the opportunity too compare the real new Rhode Mark 7 and ancien Rhode with the Clavia and also this Korg keyboard and guess what ? the emulation and warmness tone are better on Clavia nordstage and also on ROLAND new phantom !!! im tired to see shit Vaccum Tube on those kind of product or pedal effect from the same company, this is do nothing, compare to an Avalon desing preamp or other TLA and manley vaccum tube compressor preamplifier.
What if you want split mode, and more than 60 mellotron samples, more than 360 sample to load in, and the best drawbar organ in the world? You have to buy an Nord Electro 3... (or be stucked with only 36 sound, with a lot good, but also a lot bad sounds...)
i didn´t read all the answers here, so i´m not sure, if your question is answered jet. ...
in case that it isn´t:
YES, you will need speakers. or at least a headphone. There are definitely no speakers built in, as usual in the class of middle to high professional keys. (for example, the actual synthesizer workstations of the "biggest" companies, like yamaha, roland, korg, kurzwiel, ... do never have speakers built in. )
i grew up playing acoustic piano, hammonds, and my dad had a rhodes suitcase and a wurly200A, and the yamahas have a much more authentic piano sound than the nord. the nord has better hammond sound, and roland has better electric piano sounds. this sv-1 has a pretty good balance, or you could try native instruments komplete 5 for near perfection.
i can do 1000 times more with my Yamaha S70xs..........but i will admit the keybed on the SV1 was nice........... but too limited...........pretty limited for 2k. The S70xs is not a workstation per se.... but........ man o man... does it do a lot...... for a STAGE PIANO.
i think it's awsome.....ya been waitin a long time for this essentials-covering main board. organ will get it done, but, think I'd bring a light board, midi in to get the organs playing "normal" and sounding great. Yamaha MM6 cheap, perfect for that.
I'm trying to understand why so many people are down on Nord acoustic piano sounds. Am I not hearing something right? ...because I think they are the best I have heard from demos. I am suspecting that people who don't like the Nord piano sounds are people who expect a more refined, perhaps "produced" sound. I want a raw piano sound, with whatever roughness around the edges a real piano would have. I think that is what I am hearing from Nord. Can you comment on this, since you have one?
Nord piano sounds are fantastic, but this keyboard has got fantastic sounds too.. you can really hear the damper going down and the hammers lift.. and that noise that you hear with highest notes it's perfect... and last but not least the dynamic of the sv1 is perfect!
since I am italian I hope I haven't done to much mistakes with english
well, I' ve bought it yesterday, and I can guarantee that it' s a great keyboard indeed! All the sounds are fantastic and some of them are absolutely an emotion!
played one today....... does too few things for that much money.... sorry Korg.... and the round tube look SUCKS it really does. looks like you're playing a big weiner
The real problem are the weighted keys. Essential for classical piano and rhodes sounds. But not good for organ and synth sounds. This sound combination does not fit together, unless you put it into a 19" unit and one can decide what sound to play on what keyboard.
I like a lot of Korg's sounds, but I've had two Korg keyboards and BOTH lost the X action on the joystick. This keyboard seems to be the Nord Electro competition, which I'm sure Korg has beat in the acoustic piano department. I haven't demo'd one in person, but I'm sure it's got some very nice stuff. Always liked Korg's effects. I'd buy an 88-key for my live gigs for pianos & maybe electric pianos (if I had extra cash to burn) and keep my Nord Electro on top for organs.
But... weighted keys on an organ? That's a bit of a problem.
Overall, it seems much cooler than the Nord to me, and someone is finally getting on in the looks department. I just don't know if I can pull off all my organ solos with weighted keys. Piano stuff, sure, but organ?
why wouldn't you make a video like this available in HD or HQ? to be honest, it sounds like shit, but i'm sure that's because of the digital artifacts from the recording quality.
this thing's pretty cool, but they didn't nail the organ section like nord did, and really, the organs should be about half the battle on a vintage piece like this one. the tube processing is a choice touch though...
Heard someone playing this instore today and I swear I nearly creamed in my jeans. It may cost me my marriage but I'm gonna be obtaining one of these beauties in the new year.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sometimes it makes me wonder how these "product specialists" get hired in the first place. In my opinion, a good product specialist is not just a good presenter/demonstrator of the features of the product, but also an amazing and versatile musician. What they usually are, though, are these blues lick replicating amateurs.
It would sound better if the guy was a better pianist/keyboardist. He's playing a different variation of the same chords. The board looks sweet though!
That's what I was thinking. This sounds good but it's not like having the real instruments in front of you. NS and electro are the only keyboards around that are for people who want real sampled instruments in front of them, not just some sounds from studio 80s bands.
Plus it doesn't seem to have any Hammond-y drawbar control. Korg makes the CX3 - its not like they don't have the resources to take on the Nord Stage with a legit competitor, but this seems to be more about the effects and the samples than the user controls.
I like the direct XLR outs, but if I cant route what goes to them and cant control the organ section logically then, frankly, I don't really care.
Not to mention that the Oasys-style tube in the effects chain is a sad gimmick that no one has ever taken seriously, especially with it mounted on the front panel like a flux capacitor. And seriously, there's nothing functionally vintage about shaping it like a tootsie roll. The White Elephant dream machines looked stupid in their day too.
Its a weighted keyboard, so its never going to be ideal for organ playing. Likewise the Nord Electro is unweighted - so less than ideal for Electric Piano playing.
And if you are more towards organs (or organ sounds). Go for the real thing or get Nord C1 or C2. No need to come here complaining about "bad" organs when it isn't even the main thing in this instrument. And by the way. I have tested Nord Stage and this SV-1 and I can say the SV-1 has better piano sound on it, which is a huge factor for me.
Is it possible to direct the organ and piano sounds to separate outputs, so the organ can be run through a Leslie? Is it possible to turn the built-in Leslie simulation off? I'd really like to get rid of my VK-8 but I don't want the Nord...
Man this thing looks amazing! If Roland wanted to send me a V-Piano that would be sweet but this thing sounds and looks to perform awesome and the design is fantastic.
because i all played them. it needs more dynamic. the sounds on the korg are to clean. its not realistic. they need more dirt. and if you hit a key verry hard, you will come much to soon to a point, when there comes nothing more. no power.
what is your problem. cant you accept, that some peole dont like korg? fuck the editor and fuck the amp. and clean your ears. when you realy think that the korg piano is better you dont know anything about realistic pianosounds. and korg says that its 80 polyphonic. thats a lie. if you play a big chord-phrase over the whole keyboard and you reach the highest note, you dont hear the first notes anymore. not so on the clavia-instruments.
Eh... It really sounds like a sharp grand piano. There's so many different pianos and piano sounds. Guess it's about taste as you said, but neither does Nord have those VERY realistic pianos. It's always a problem on digital instruments. Strange that the best digital piano sound actually comes from a bout 300€ software that runs nearly on every computer, although there's so many companies trying to build a superb piano sound...
I really love the look.

I had about 20 minutes with it and liked it very much for the most part. It has a nice
B-3 "sound" but it won't work for a serious organist because it doesn't allow a split keyboard with two different drawbar settings on each side of the split.

Lounge Lizard has better Rhodes. IMO.
ryancangri 1 year ago

Its about $1900-2000 in the USA. With warranty about $2200. You might get an "Open box" for $1600.

What if you want split mode, and more than 60 mellotron samples, more than 360 sample to load in, and the best drawbar organ in the world? You have to buy an Nord Electro 3... (or be stucked with only 36 sound, with a lot good, but also a lot bad sounds...)

@run4urmony
hello run4urmony
i didn´t read all the answers here, so i´m not sure, if your question is answered jet. ...
in case that it isn´t:
YES, you will need speakers. or at least a headphone. There are definitely no speakers built in, as usual in the class of middle to high professional keys. (for example, the actual synthesizer workstations of the "biggest" companies, like yamaha, roland, korg, kurzwiel, ... do never have speakers built in. )
have a nice weekend

i grew up playing acoustic piano, hammonds, and my dad had a rhodes suitcase and a wurly200A, and the yamahas have a much more authentic piano sound than the nord. the nord has better hammond sound, and roland has better electric piano sounds. this sv-1 has a pretty good balance, or you could try native instruments komplete 5 for near perfection.
akimaru1000 1 year ago
i can do 1000 times more with my Yamaha S70xs..........but i will admit the keybed on the SV1 was nice........... but too limited...........pretty limited for 2k. The S70xs is not a workstation per se.... but........ man o man... does it do a lot...... for a STAGE PIANO.
mysticradio 1 year ago
i think it's awsome.....ya been waitin a long time for this essentials-covering main board. organ will get it done, but, think I'd bring a light board, midi in to get the organs playing "normal" and sounding great.

I'd buy an 88-key for my live gigs for pianos & maybe electric pianos (if I had extra cash to burn) and keep my Nord Electro on top for organs.
chazmuz 2 years ago
is this keyboard better than yamaha s 70 xs for piano?
rickyscarpy 2 years ago
This stage-piano has awesome organ sounds, but the weighted keys wil indeed make a difference when pulling off an organ-solo!.
Cosiolife 2 years ago
But... weighted keys on an organ? That's a bit of a problem.
Overall, it seems much cooler than the Nord to me, and someone is finally getting on in the looks department. I just don't know if I can pull off all my organ solos with weighted keys. Piano stuff, sure, but organ?

chunkyostrich 2 years ago
why wouldn't you make a video like this available in HD or HQ? to be honest, it sounds like shit, but i'm sure that's because of the digital artifacts from the recording quality.
this thing's pretty cool, but they didn't nail the organ section like nord did, and really, the organs should be about half the battle on a vintage piece like this one. the tube processing is a choice touch though...

The board looks sweet though!
sabianboy11 2 years ago
yea, the electro 3 destroys this, especially as far as the organ stuff goes. way more dirty and gritty sounding.
icedcoffee1 2 years ago
Maybe it beats it on the organ sound, but all of the other sounds on this, beats the electro 3!
guitarkris 2 years ago
Nice try at a Nord Stage. Not quite, but nice try.
treesmakewind 2 years ago
That's what I was thinking. This sounds good but it's not like having the real instruments in front of you. NS and electro are the only keyboards around that are for people who want real sampled instruments in front of them, not just some sounds from studio 80s bands.
voodoochili12 2 years ago
Plus it doesn't seem to have any Hammond-y drawbar control. Korg makes the CX3 - its not like they don't have the resources to take on the Nord Stage with a legit competitor, but this seems to be more about the effects and the samples than the user controls.
I like the direct XLR outs, but if I cant route what goes to them and cant control the organ section logically then, frankly, I don't really care.
treesmakewind 2 years ago
Not to mention that the Oasys-style tube in the effects chain is a sad gimmick that no one has ever taken seriously, especially with it mounted on the front panel like a flux capacitor. And seriously, there's nothing functionally vintage about shaping it like a tootsie roll. The White Elephant dream machines looked stupid in their day too.
treesmakewind 2 years ago
@treesmakewind
Its a weighted keyboard, so its never going to be ideal for organ playing. Likewise the Nord Electro is unweighted - so less than ideal for Electric Piano playing.
JonnyB1971 2 years ago
Do some research and test both before you come commenting. And yea, grow up.
Kahva123 2 years ago
And if you are more towards organs (or organ sounds). Go for the real thing or get Nord C1 or C2. No need to come here complaining about "bad" organs when it isn't even the main thing in this instrument. And by the way. I have tested Nord Stage and this SV-1 and I can say the SV-1 has better piano sound on it, which is a huge factor for me.
Kahva123 2 years ago
Is it possible to direct the organ and piano sounds to separate outputs, so the organ can be run through a Leslie? Is it possible to turn the built-in Leslie simulation off? I'd really like to get rid of my VK-8 but I don't want the Nord...

everyone interprets Pianos differently.
I personally love the Korg pianos and don't like the highly acclaimed Yamaha pianos at all.

Man this thing looks amazing! If Roland wanted to send me a V-Piano that would be sweet but this thing sounds and looks to perform awesome and the design is fantastic.
Inverted314 2 years ago
it looks good. and thats it. nord stage and v-piano are way better.

Inverted314 2 years ago
right. but the piano-sounds on the korg are ridiculous.

ridicoulous bad.
WerhattedenLachs 2 years ago
hpw do you know its way better??
MellerupMusic0809 2 years ago
because i all played them. it needs more dynamic. the sounds on the korg are to clean. its not realistic. they need more dirt. and if you hit a key verry hard, you will come much to soon to a point, when there comes nothing more. no power.
WerhattedenLachs 2 years ago
The amp gives it some real dirt if you want... And remember there is that software editor. If you like your stuffed pianos then ok. Just piss off ?
Kahva123 2 years ago
what is your problem. cant you accept, that some peole dont like korg? fuck the editor and fuck the amp. and clean your ears. when you realy think that the korg piano is better you dont know anything about realistic pianosounds. and korg says that its 80 polyphonic. thats a lie. if you play a big chord-phrase over the whole keyboard and you reach the highest note, you dont hear the first notes anymore. not so on the clavia-instruments.
WerhattedenLachs 2 years ago
Kahva123 2 years ago
Nobody is really TRYING to make a nice piano sound other than Roland and Nord. The other companies have the money and the technology,
