I liked the character art because you can understand Saya's role and character at a glance without even playing the series. Saya looks sweet and beautiful but also michevious; and while she takes human form there is something about her mature expression, (superimposed on the face of a young girl), along with her ears, and her tail-like hair all of which imply (correctly) that she's not quite human. It's beautiful how a careful illustration can show you all this without making her speak a word.

I thought the mature expression on a young girl and cat-ear-hair was supposed to appeal to the standard lolicon and cat-girl fetishisms that so many modern animes thoughtlessly pander to. However, what you've said sounds more plausible. Saya's art depicts her as beautiful, innocent, mischievous yet something is not entirely right about her, in contrast to Fuminori and his friends, who all look pretty normal.
