It's unfortunate that the lack of a smoke trail makes it difficult to fully appreciate the vertical maneuvers, particularly the torque roll (at 1:10) and what looks like a knife-edge/tailslide combo (2:00). Against the clear blue sky it is hard to know which way the plane is moving, particularly when it is an Su-31 with so much power in the vertical. I wonder if it was an artistic decision or simply a broken smoke system.
Now that is poetry in motion. Kapanina keeps the raw power of that airplane in her very tight control at all times. Instead of forcing the plane to tumble wildly, she gives me the impession that she uses even greater skill to KEEP it from tumbling.
