Hunting is by FARRR the best way to make money. The best thing to hunt is wolves, because they travel in such large packs. Also, when you kill a pack of them, and then stay in that area, more packs pretty much always show up. So you can just stay in the same area hunting wolves for a while and their pelts and hearts are worth a lot. They give meat too but the meat is cheap. If you're at the beginning of the game though before there are any wolves around then hunt Bucks.
