@kaktusfeige030 He said he'll think about it. Could he do something longer than a hnt? He doesn't want to go too short just in case he doesn't like it. The shortest he wants to do is a #3 or a #4
@Dax1 He doesn't want to do anything too drastic. Is it possible to do something a little longer like a #4 or a #5 on top and just a fade to like a #2 or #3?
A hair razor. The intention is to create different lengths of hair on top - this gives it texture. Ask one of your tutors to demonstrate? If a problem, obtain a web cam, sign up to Skype (its free) and i'll demonstrate it live on video for you. Kenyon - (my Skype name kenyon_yates)
Simply keep all the length but texturise the inside of the hairstyle by using a razor or tapering (thinning) scissors. Now apply some 'clay' product and mess it up! Kenyon
I think he should let his hair grow longer. Have him check out the photographs in MensHair.org > Photographs > Medium length to get ideas. For example, the photograph of this guy's series (7th row, 5th image) would look good on him. The series ends on row 8.
Two rows below that row, is a red haired guy with a great cut short on the sides and lower back (near the nape) but maintains the length on the top and upper back.
Take photographs to the stylist so you're all on the same page.
A Caesar cut could work. I think I'd try more of an Ivy League (or Princeton) cut. Sides would be sorter and less bulk on top, with a brush up or spiky look in front. His current style is not bad, but would be better if back were tapered.
Sides and back are too long. taper them up. Avoid the solid line at the back nape area... taper the bottom edge... leave the top length as is. Bust up the bangs/fringe so it is not so blunt... Reduce bulk through the top with texture technique, razor or texturising scissors. Post a pic when done so we can see it. Ivan
Short on the sides and back with a little more length on top...ala faux hawk...or classic caesar or ivy league with the sides and back given a taper or fade....
a hnt would look nice on him.

@Breeslave How short is a caesar?
haircutfreak1 3 months ago
@haircutfreak1 about an inch shorter than what he has now but some caesar cuts are shorter. Check out George Clooney and Frank Sinatra.

Some suggestions with long or rather long hair :
- keep the same style but with longer hair
- same hairstyle for front and sides but shorter for the back
- long hair backward with poneytail
Some suggestions with short hair :
- short fade for back and sides, 1 centimetre on the top
- short fade for back and sides, gelled spikes on top
- shaved sides+mohawk
If possible, he can also experiment some facial hair (chin hair or a thin beard).
