wtf, in almost every comment the term "goth" or "gothic" and i also see a lot "cradle of filth" most of you actually dont know what goth is, and cradle of filth may be called goth but i think it isn't cause like goth music should be calm, not like metal and stuff, like CoF. Things like goth metal etc. dont make any sense.
@CathalinaCFC I know, calm might be a wrong word for what i mean, it is supposed to ( to my opinion ) not that screaming cradle of filth- like but a calm vocal perhaps? :) aww nevermind, i mean it shouldn't be that metal- like ;)
Why does good Gothic Rock and post punk music always have to mention comments off posers and stuff, just enjoy the music. We all know Cradle of Filth makes a saying for its name,,, its FILTH. Let it be. And enjoy the experimentation in music.
The term 'gothic' is very old, it can describe novels, arches or tasty pies; In terms of this 'gothic' it is 'Gothic Rock', which began with Bauhaus's 'Bela Lugosi's Dead' in 1979. Any that dispute this form an orderly queue there. No.....there. OK.
@Spankabuttux Yes thank you. Someone who finally has a head on their shoulders. 'Goth' has to many definitions for us to call one thing 'Goth'. This is music portrayed by the fashion style Goth and is called 'Gothic Rock' not 'Goth music'...>.>

The term "gothic" also described the earlier vampire tales, such as "Dracula". It might have something to do with naming this musical genre, since the atmosphere and lyrics sometimes remind of these old tales of the undead.
@Mumzzen GothIC is architecture from the 16th, 17th and early 18th century. Cradle Of Filth is not Goth, but its Symphonic Metal.
Goth, is a subculture and a music genre. Although the music genre isn't as popular as todays new music. Original Gothic bands are Rosetta Stone, The Cure, Bauhaus, etc.
@XxShatteredx And who is jacob? I don't know who Jacob is..anyway answer this: would you say that GothIC (with the ending) is more like cradle of filth, beauty in the horrific, the litterature, the art back in the 16th-17th century and the architecture back in those days, while Goth (with no ending) is the subculture and the music genre...?

i wish Porl King didnt regret Rosetta Stone, i think its the epitome of where goth could go and still remain the genre of goth-rock, i like children on stun too, other than that im way too into the 80's stuff :p
most goths in the 90s and even in the 80s were listening to synth pop, this genre was very unpopular then and now. But Rosetta Stone's music is awesome and i like it very much

A man shouting without any sense and any rhythm is the opposite of Goth; Rosetta Stone is harmony and creates a personal atmosphere through their songs, in reality, I am not in favor of putting labels to music, I am in favor of songs that can take you to other places and to hear while you are in a mystical landscape for instance. I have not heard too much Cradle of Filth but what I heard does not tell me anything, I prefer My Dying Bride (just in case)
I can't find your response to my comment about not liking Cradle of Filth but liking Night Wish, but,I must say that the Nightwish I'm talking about is a more symphonic-progressive band. I know there's @ leaST 3 BANDS who use that name.
I don't think she means that they are posing to be goth as much as the common conception of other people thing they're goth. Which I too have personally seen countless times...
I know the lyrics are "shame me" but it sounds like he is saying "Jamie" as in a woman who "left [him] for dead". I was once in a rather negative relationship with a woman named Jamie.
They remind me of The Mission to be honest. I have time for both Gothic Rock, Heavy Metal and Gothic Metal (lots of great bands from Norway in this genre). Cradle Of Filth (Extreme Gothic Metal) - great band! Rothbhoy (Northern England - spiritual home of Goth!).
Oh well first time I listen this song/band, I find it by mistake looking for mephisto waltz songs and well it is really really cool, time to add another good "old" band to my library. Thanks for share this video.
@Heretus I know this comment is way too old, but I have to say this: Why somebody below 20 should not know what goth is? I´m 16. I listen to goth rock, postpunk and deathrock (I also used to listen to metal, but that does not mean I do not know the difference). Apart from being pissed off with the poseurs saiyng about metal bands they´re goth, I´m also really dissapointed by fact many people are saying that every teen is poseur just because one was not fortunate enough to be born 30 years ago.
@CathalinaCFC That is a legitimate complaint, a lot of people label the kids who dress in a modern way as 'hipsters' too, no, it is only the older ones who are 'hipsters', the younger ones are following a new style.
I'm an old school goth from back in the 1980's and I can assuredly say that many of us were influenced by some metal and proto-metal, such as Black Sabbath and Alice Cooper. Rozz Williams was a big Cooper and Sabbath fan himself. While much modern metal does indeed suck, I can find *some* metal worthy of listening to, such as My Dying Bride. Of course, it will never displace my love for Christian Death & The Cure.
@Evenstar67 fields of nephilim is a awesome band man pure qualidy who needs cradle of crap or death metal havin this or the new dark wave its so boring and electronic
@Evenstar67 Goth or not goth, what a useless argue! This is good music; it's dark music, music with deep lyrics and it can take you to another world while you are listening; the world is mainly dark, sometimes beautiful (landscapes, love) but it could be extremely dark (,diseases, humans), this is not goth, this music is made for the world we live; who cares about labels! I only care about music that tells me something
@BlackSkyThunder I'm not argueing, I'm making a statement wich is mine, and mine alone. So call it goth, call it dark music.. I don't care about labels and people who think they know it all..so feel free to say this is not goth, I don't care.
cradle of filth are symphonic black metal. leaves eyes are symphonic metal. lacuna coil are symphonic metal, and nightwish are symphonic metal. people quite often mistake symphonic metal for being a mix of goth and metal..when it's not goth at all.
Well sympholic metal seems to be a mixter of goth rock and folk metal. If you listen to leaves eyes you can still hear the roots that havent really brached out in some songs. However I believe its to much of a different type of music.

I don't lthat gothIC is like the subculture or like goth music, but, gothic like the churches, the litterature, the beauty in the horrific, and death and etc.
I agree with you that this is not metal but I do not have anything against S&M or vampiric expressionalism which in my opinion is beautiful. Byronic expression and gothic literature has always been a part of the Goth movement, I don't see why you would disparage S&M and vampiric expressionalism which is very much a part of the spirit (in some cases the letter) of the Gothic movement. Also, an aristocratic decorum is essential to gothic expression which is something you are not expressing.
Vampirism is only but a PERCENTAGE of what you call the "Gothic movement". And most definitely does not make up the entirety of it. And while it's understandable that some S&M influenced fashion made it's way into the culture (thank you Sue), S&M by far and large has VERY little to do the music itself, what is what the so called movement was all about.
Keep in mind that the movement goes far beyond music, but into every aspect of ones life, however its a kind of take and leave thing, some are just in it for the fashion. but some of us... a dwindling number.... are in it for life.... ( :
Agreed. The vampire subculture is completely separate movement. Yes, it spawned from goth but it is now its own entity. BDSM is a completely different lifestyle, as well. But, many people are drawn to all three subcultures, hence why outsiders oftentimes lump them all together.
wtf, in almost every comment the term "goth" or "gothic" and i also see a lot "cradle of filth" most of you actually dont know what goth is, and cradle of filth may be called goth but i think it isn't cause like goth music should be calm, not like metal and stuff, like CoF. 3)stupidity : do i even need to explain this one ?

Agreed. The vampire subculture is completely separate movement. Yes, it spawned from goth but it is now its own entity. BDSM is a completely different lifestyle, as well. But, many people are drawn to all three subcultures, hence why outsiders oftentimes lump them all together.
