About how you didn't used to be able to do anything about it if you couldn't think who an actor was, and it would drive you crazy for the next hour ... in 1987, I remember amazing a friend by calling my brother, LONG DISTANCE, to describe someone on TV so he could tell me who it was. :) Also, I had a book like that Leonard Maltin book, and I used it on a regular basis -- just like now, it's hard for me to get through TV/movies at home w/o looking on IMDb or WP to find out more.

My parents are 50, and they only have one house phone.. Never had an answering machine, and neither have ever had a cell phone. Louis would be amazed by them.

I'm 30.. And they just got put in about 4 years ago, and that's just because I called and had it installed. So I never had cable growing up until I went to college. I still get a call at least once a week from my mom saying your dad messed the tv up again. Neither one would even know how to make a call on a cell phone, or even turn on a computer. They are extremely simple people.

@trilogypart3 Yes, it is a rather strange paradox isn't it? And although technology in itself has 'shrunk' the world to a great extent, it also isolates us. And I predict within the next decade you will find an epidemic of loneliness in the (western style cultured) populations of the world and people involved in some kind of existential dilemma.

@trje246... To answer your question... in some ways yes, and in other ways no. While some technological advances have been a truly good & beneficial thing (i.e., medical, transportation, communication), a lot have been turned into sheer silliness (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, the overdependence on smartphones, etc). IMO, the current overdependence on those things is eventually gonna blow up in our faces in one form or another. Hell, it's already begun.
