THAT IS A SIMPLE, AND GREAT IDEA. I HAVE MADE LOTS OF ANT., BUT IT NEVER CAME TO MY MIND OF USING COAX, WHERE YOU ALREADY HAVE YOU POS, AN NEG ALREADY FOR YOU IN THE WIRE. THANK YOU. THINK I'LL MAKE ONE AN SEE IF IT'S BETTER THAN THE J.
first of all that is not a discone it is a ground plane antenna and rg6 has a ton off lose a 90-1200mhz try using rg-213 -9913 coax for those higher freq
@psb2usa <-- thanks for that!! I'm currently using an SE-900 discone, but will be moving away soon and have to leave it here (Wales), so am looking to make just a "quick-slap-up" antenna for my new location.. Will definately have to try this out. I'm currently using an old (but good) Realistic Pro-2005 that has been modified up to 1300 MHz.. But need a good home-made antenna to cover up to 1300Mhz
@psb2usa <-- Excellent, i think i'll try and experiment with different lengths to cover certain frequency ranges, thanks very much for that information and thanks for the video... Hope to see more home-made antenna vids soon !!

This is a groundplane antenna, not a discone, but full kudos to you for making your own! Not enough of that experimentation going on these days.

Should work fine in the UK (I come from Scotland and used a similar Discone antenna there on my Yupiteru scanner

The great thing about this antenna is you can change the length of the legs to suit other freq. I even use it here for Digital TV
