ive been watching the same video of Electricity a million times EVERY DAY ever since the middle of last year, ive been obsessed with it. every time i watch it, im moved. i watched David do a part of it for the first time today, and i cried. all the others always amazed me, but when David sang the song, it was so full of emotion that tears started streaming down my face. he is amazing. <3 i love Billy Elliot.
I saw Joseph and Peter, but I never saw David. I really regret it; I love the other two boys, but I wish I had had a chance to see all of them. For Michael, I only saw Cameron Clifford, but I saw the other boy on YouTube and he looked like he was good too.

Personally, in total honesty & lack of an iota of bigotry, Alvarez is out of place as Elliot. I am not denying Alvarezs dancing is acceptable (tho his voice is far from suitable-- in my opinion), it has to do with a concept equal to seeing Daniel Radcliffe portraying Travis Younger in the Broadway musical Raisin.'
I guess you will have a TERRIBLE time with the current crop of Billys. I don't think any of them look particularly like the typical English lad. (Liam Redhead is even darker than Alvarez, and Dayton Tavares, though from Australia, looks positively Mexican.) Speaking of typically English lads, though, what about Layton Williams who played the role in London longer than any actor prior to Trent Kowalik. The really important thing is the kid's ability to DANCE! David certainly has that!

@pinkishgluestick David Alvarez is the paragon of Billy Elliot. While the others are good, after seeing David in the role, he ruins it for the others. It's like comparing a Rolls Royce to a Chevrolet. You may have a great Chevrolet, but its not a Rolls, and you can tell right away. For instance, when Trent and Kiril do Electricity, its adapted to their limitations, since they can't do the magnificent classical movements that David can do so easily. Not even Liam rises to that level.
the spins at the end of electricity are just so balanced and lovely. if you watch carefully, he puts his arms up as the orchestra accents certain notes - none of the other billys do that and it is very dramatic. great ballet training, he has.
@MadTvLove09 Although I normally hate when people say things like vocals don't really matter in certain musicals, I can totally understand that this musical's vocals obvs don't need to be the center piece---even so, I think he has a beautiful voice, especially for such a young age!

David is graceful and precise in his dancing. He takes command of the stage. Did you notice the strong and enthusiastic standing ovation at the end of his dance before his father. He even did that classical head snap at the end. Brilliant!
You can tell that David is highly trained in ballet. He really flies across the stage and is so graceful. He makes it look so easy to dance even the most difficult choreography.
No! :( They cut off the last scene with Michael!!! Aww that scene was so sweet and heartbreaking. In fact starting from "Once We Were Kings" all the way until the end, I was such a wreck to the point where even after curtain, I was still crying. Best show EVER. Hands down. By the end of the show I just felt so emotionally spent. Like the lyrics in "Electricity" when this show is over "you're empty and you're full".
noooooooo trent is the best! david is awesome, (well, they all are!!) but he's not a great singer. trent is the best singer and tap-dancer, and kiril, david, and tommy are the ballet whizzes. but did you know that trent had to learn ballet for the role? he only did irish step dancing before!! but ok, i'll shut up now. :-)

Of all of the Billys I've seen videos of from the three productions David has the smoothest dancing style in my opinion. They're all great dancers, but there's something different with David and his grace. I also like Rhys from Australia because of his energy he throws into it. Heck, I like seeing all of them dance, they're so good! And the Michaels are so funny, plus great dancers!

I also saw Trent in New York City. That was the day after the Tony nominations came out. What a show! What's with all the shortening of words you use? It's annoying to those of us who enjoy English.
hes a really good dancer....i mean and idk if its just this version but it sounds like that he really cant sing that good. If anyone else has seen him can u tell me if hes a good singer. Because if i see him i wanna make sure that its good.
solidarityfrv13, none of the three Billys are singer - they have been coached to sing for this show. They were cast as ballet dancers, and as a such David Alvarez seems to be the best, according to his records (the only one studying ballet at ABT), and the critics. On top of that, his acting has received oustanding reviews by the CRITICS (incuding NY Times and LA Timeds).... I haven't really seen any CRITICS amazED by the singing voice of any of the Billys. So, you decide who you want to see
Ur write, cplbroadcast, at the end of the day Billy auditions for the Royal Ballet School, not for the Opera. Otherwise they would have cast singers, not dancers..... I love David 'cause he's obviously the most complete....
Elton John casted everyone for this show and he choose for them not to be singers but dancers. he didn't want there voices to over ride the dancing and just wanted people to focus on the dancing

Compared to the other two Billys, we can safely say that David CAN sing, his voice is plain and manly. Listen to Trent: a froggy voice, listen to Kiril: a squeaky voice.
David is a naturally born gifted dancer.... We are familiar with his perfect six-pack abs and the upper body muscles, but his muscular legs are sooooooooo perfect.
You think Kiril is better, but unfortunately for you and for the poor Kiril, this is not what The New York Times and all major outlets think, this is not what professional ballet companies think.
It is great that you think that David is "The Best", but he is not. All of the Billys are great and I don't think that any are superior over the other. Kiril is actually talked highly of the critics. 1 or 2 reviews is not majority. I have seen all 3 Billys and they are magnificent. It is ok to have a fav. boy, just dont put another one down.David has about equal youtube time. The 2 videos overlap. The reason David has more press coverage is b/c he was who the critics saw on press night.
It is true that David Alvarez has more minutes in the BillyEllioStuff channel than any other Billy. I don't think it is a mere coincidence, I think it is because he outstands the other Billys.
I think it great for you to have an opinion and for you to think that David is the best, but the critics have been kind and open to all of the Billys. I think that is absurd that people like you come on here and other places and say that one Billy is better than the other, and that critics think the same and that a Billy get more praise and more benefits than other do.

When someone says that Kiril is better than David, or that Trent is better than David, you shut your mouth up, and only open it when someone says that David is the best. Besides, it does really seem that David is the best because people always compare Kiril with David, Trent with David, Liam with David - David has become the reference.
The director and the production team chose David to be seen by the critics - why? Because he's the best - face it, accept it, and just be happy with that!

I have seen all three Billys and I do appreciate all 3 of them. They all have different strengths and weaknesses, and believe it or not David does too. He is not God's gift to the world! They are all fantastic, you can't say one is better than the others when they are all incredible. They couldn't choose all 3 to do the Press Night could they? That's why Kiril did First Preview, David did Press Night. and Trent did Opening Night. To be honest, i think it would be best to do Opening Night too. But yes, they are all amazing. You may not be able to say who's the best, but I can say. I'm a professional dancer/actor, and I can definitely say that David Alvarez is the best at interpreting Billy. I agree with the production team; he's the best and that's why he's got most of the attention from the Press. Best dancer, best actor, and best singer. You may not agree, but most professionals, and most importantly, the press, agree.
You may like Kiril, but not even in San Diego, his hometown, the press likes him. From a San Diegan newspaper:
"Kiril's relative inexperience in acting and singing showed from time to time, if not glaringly; though his Geordie English accent was convincing enough, he seemed tentative in a couple of tense scenes, and his vocals wavered a bit (though he was fighting a cold)."

Not too bad but the West End production is better. I keep wincing because he's trying too hard with the accent. Obviously the London Billys sound more natural because they only have to imitate an accent from the north as opposed to the American Billys who have to attempt both English and northern.
Not necessarily true organicmomma. When i saw billy elliott in London I actually saw Trent the american actor who plays billy in broadway. You are also presuming that all the London Billys come from the south of england. I have seen Billy elliott several times in London. One was from Newcastle, one from the states, one from scotland, and one from the midlands.
He learned english a couple of years ago before he was living in California. I remember him trying to say words that we did without his accent. It was so funny... We miss you david come back to CA

Im an American and I have listened to and seen clips from the British version. the american billy's were chosen becuz they are amazing dancers... they won international youth ballet competitions... their technique has somewut gone down since they were in cali... american production sucks...
I saw David. He was awesome! The whole show was amazing, but the standout performances for me were Santino Fontana and Gregory Jbara. Haydn Gwynne was also really good.
I've not seen the show, of course< but I've been reviewing all the clips of the various kids doing "Electricity". Although all of them are fantastic, I think that David is the only one that really PERFORMS the song. His pauses, gestures, emphases, etc. are right on target. I really hope I get to see him do the show. I think he's a real "find"!

Of all of the Billys I've seen videos of from the three productions David has the smoothest dancing style in my opinion. They're all great dancers, but there's something different with David and his grace. I also like Rhys from Australia because of his energy he throws into it. Heck, I like seeing all of them dance, they're so good! And the Michaels are so funny, plus great dancers!

I also saw Trent in New York City. That was the day after the Tony nominations came out. What a show! What's with all the shortening of words you use? It's annoying to those of us who enjoy English.

hes a really good dancer....i mean and idk if its just this version but it sounds like that he really cant sing that good. If anyone else has seen him can u tell me if hes a good singer. Because if i see him i wanna make sure that its good.

solidarityfrv13, none of the three Billys are singer - they have been coached to sing for this show. They were cast as ballet dancers, and as a such David Alvarez seems to be the best, according to his records (the only one studying ballet at ABT), and the critics. On top of that, his acting has received oustanding reviews by the CRITICS (incuding NY Times and LA Timeds).... I haven't really seen any CRITICS amazED by the singing voice of any of the Billys. So, you decide who you want to see

Ur write, cplbroadcast, at the end of the day Billy auditions for the Royal Ballet School, not for the Opera. Otherwise they would have cast singers, not dancers..... I love David 'cause he's obviously the most complete....

Elton John casted everyone for this show and he choose for them not to be singers but dancers. he didn't want there voices to over ride the dancing and just wanted people to focus on the dancing

Compared to the other two Billys, we can safely say that David CAN sing, his voice is plain and manly. Listen to Trent: a froggy voice, listen to Kiril: a squeaky voice.

It is great that you think that David is "The Best", but he is not. All of the Billys are great and I don't think that any are superior over the other. Kiril is actually talked highly of the critics. 1 or 2 reviews is not majority. I have seen all 3 Billys and they are magnificent. It is ok to have a fav. boy, just dont put another one down.David has about equal youtube time. The 2 videos overlap. The reason David has more press coverage is b/c he was who the critics saw on press night.

It is true that David Alvarez has more minutes in the BillyEllioStuff channel than any other Billy. I don't think it is a mere coincidence, I think it is because he outstands the other Billys.

I think it great for you to have an opinion and for you to think that David is the best, but the critics have been kind and open to all of the Billys. I think that is absurd that people like you come on here and other places and say that one Billy is better than the other, and that critics think the same and that a Billy get more praise and more benefits than other do.

abbie8908, look down at the comment posted by broadwayjulzs, he says Kiril is MUCH better than David. When someone says that Kiril is better than David, or that Trent is better than David, you shut your mouth up, and only open it when someone says that David is the best. Besides, it does really seem that David is the best because people always compare Kiril with David, Trent with David, Liam with David - David has become the reference.

I have seen all three Billys and I do appreciate all 3 of them. They all have different strengths and weaknesses, and believe it or not David does too. He is not God's gift to the world! Like I said before, you can have a fav. I just think that is sad when people think that one Billy is better then the other.

DAVID ALVAREZ is already DAVID ALVAREZ, at ABT and on Broadway; just don't get blinded by his talent. Why is it that whenever there's a super talent like David Alvarez, mediocre people try to undermine it? HE is a gift from GOD for the entire world - just like Baryshnikov, Nureyev, Bujones, Nijinsky BTW, do you know these people? Only once or twice in a century the humankind is given a gift like these legendary dancers... and now we can enjoy DAVID ALVAREZ for many years to come! .

Sorry abbie, but they are not all equal, no man or woman is created equal. David Alvarez cant swim like Michael Phelps, and Michael Phelps cant dance like David Alvarez. And I agree with joan, David is a gift from God to the world, but maybe not to be enjoyed by mediocre, ordinary people.

They are all fantastic, you can't say one is better than the others when they are all incredible. They couldn't choose all 3 to do the Press Night could they? That's why Kiril did First Preview, David did Press Night. and Trent did Opening Night. To be honest, i think it would be best to do Opening Night too. But yes, they are all amazing. I like Trent best in NYC but i'm not saying he's the best. Fox and Brad in London

You may not be able to say who's the best, but I can say. I'm a professional dancer/actor, and I can definitely say that David Alvarez is the best at interpreting Billy. I agree with the production team; he's the best and that's why he's got most of the attention from the Press. Best dancer, best actor, and best singer. You may not agree, but most professionals, and most importantly, the press, agree.

You may like Kiril, but not even in San Diego, his hometown, the press likes him. From a San Diegan newspaper:
"Kiril's relative inexperience in acting and singing showed from time to time, if not glaringly; though his Geordie English accent was convincing enough, he seemed tentative in a couple of tense scenes, and his vocals wavered a bit (though he was fighting a cold)."

david is at the ABT a well recognized ballet school, i think you know anything about ballet! and you probably havent seen the show, cause david and kiril are fantastic!!!! they got several standing ovations (probably something you never going to get)

Not too bad but the West End production is better. I keep wincing because he's trying too hard with the accent. Obviously the London Billys sound more natural because they only have to imitate an accent from the north as opposed to the American Billys who have to attempt both English and northern.

Not necessarily true organicmomma. When i saw billy elliott in London I actually saw Trent the american actor who plays billy in broadway. You are also presuming that all the London Billys come from the south of england. I have seen Billy elliott several times in London. One was from Newcastle, one from the states, one from scotland, and one from the midlands.

Have you seen the Broadway version? There are alot of UK peoplw who think the US version is better even Lee Hall.
David is def. not trying to hard on the accent. He just recently learned english so he has got several different accents mixed into one.

Im an American and I have listened to and seen clips from the British version. the american billy's were chosen becuz they are amazing dancers... they won international youth ballet competitions... their technique has somewut gone down since they were in cali... american production sucks...

I saw David. He was awesome! The whole show was amazing, but the standout performances for me were Santino Fontana and Gregory Jbara. Haydn Gwynne was also really good.

I've not seen the show, of course< but I've been reviewing all the clips of the various kids doing "Electricity". Although all of them are fantastic, I think that David is the only one that really PERFORMS the song. His pauses, gestures, emphases, etc. are right on target. I really hope I get to see him do the show. I think he's a real "find"!
