However, I just want to add one thing: Apropos the "most soles are non improvised, because they get to be on CDs" I really think it depends on what genre you listen to - I personally listen to a lot of blues, jazz old school rock from the 60's and most of my favorite artists, such as Jaco Pastorius, Jimi Hendrix,Stanley Clark etc. will never be seen playing a solo without improvising.
