  • you should consider trying a three blade p.a.c prop made by prince aircraft company you might get better performance then my dad had a culver 72 "prop on a avid flyer and it warped perty bad but its up to you just a consideration

  • It sounds like your going to get cessna 150 speeds when the engine gets broke in.....but a better take off...thanks...keep the vids coming....bob

  • nice installation. performance ok for a 62 " prop.

I think dual you will find it really lacks but cruise should ok. With Wheel pants I would expect to see 90 mph plus though, What is total weight gain over the 582 ? I think a 0200 would be another decent one but still weight issue.

  • yeah, haven't flown duel yet but probably gonna get 600 to 700 FPM - the cruise is only 80 because I am running the engine at 65% during break-in - that's 21 inches of manifold pressure and 2300 RPM - the book tells you to cruise at 3000 RPM! overall I'm very pleased with the performance

  • @papipilot -- that is good then, You will likely see 95 to 100 mph in cruise when done at least. Auuming that you have close to the same torque as a 912 UL -- 912 ul should see 110 average cleaned up a bit.

  • Oh, and the total weight difference between 582 installed and the VW is about 60 lbs but the weight and balance came in perfect - I think the kitfox with 582 is a little tail heavey

  • @papipilot -- never noticed that on a IV model. 60 lbs net gain is nothing. Actually makes a Soob less less attractive. Not sure what you can go for length on prop but anything more than you got would help.

  • can't go much longer on prop - the tips are already close to supersonic at 3200 RPM so its pretty limited that way - could bolt a re-drive on it then really get a long prop though I'm pretty happy with it as direct drive

  • @papipilot -- yah it sounds loud now..... re drive on VW or jab would help alot but it a comprimise you know on everything. Just keep them light to perform. good job on the VW --alot better choice than a corvair as well Ithink

  • I think there's alot of guys flying Kitfoxes out there that might consider this engine to re-power - an overhaul is 300 to 400 bucks, parts are plentiful, anybody can work on them - there's lots of Kitfoxes down in Brazil flying VWs - thanks!

  • @papipilot -- no doubt.

We got a VW dune buggy a my airstrip -- There is a video of it I posted a few weeks ago. I not sure how well they would do on floats though your results are eye opening so far

  • there's a J3 cub with a 65 horse here on floats - it takes a while with 2 people but it does pretty well - the VW has to do better than that! I've seen an aerovee vw on a Rans S6 on puddle jumpers do pretty well - not great but Ok - did 500 FPM on climb with 2 guys on board -
