@Prepoceros hahahaha! I made a video like this too, I got a toaster cover, same thing, big box filled with packing material, that should have been in an envelope. had to pay for shipping too!
I've shopped with Amazon for several years and am also a third party seller. I assume, by the look of those boxes, these came directly from Amazon. When buying more than one item, you probably will to get them delivered separately because Amazon has several warehouses around the country. I often order several things and they come in different boxes from separate locations.
Be glad you didn't get suckered into buying Sauder, who are hiding behind the Office Max brand. They have the absolute worst construction engineered by crack headed monkeys. Made the mistake of buying an Office Max brand book case only to see the dreaded Sauder logo. It's so flimsy I'm lucky I have my stuff stable for the time being. It almost toppled over, just from moving a single DVD.
It sounds like the pencil came from an Amazon merchant, not Amazon directly. Shipping a book in an envelope seems pretty green to me. I don't think they usually get smushed--I know a book reseller who ships thousands of orders like that every day.
well, it's just a minor symptom of an over-consumption society. First you order some shit that you don't even need, they send it to you in packaging that doesn't make sense, then you make a video about it, then I comment on the video, then somebody prints all this shit, and next thing you know, collectively we are out a ton of time, bandwidth, trees, materials......
You know pencils are VERY FRAGILE and must be carefully protected with 30 feet of bubble wrap just like board games someone shipped us recently. Packaged air is only necessary for very fragile things like the metal wall decor and the quilt we also recently received. Yes, after a gift giving event our garage is full of boxes and bubbles. Its always humorous to see what warehouses do.
I bought a Rob Zombie N Box off of Ebay. I wait the week it takes for shipping, I heard someone ring my doorbell. I went out and saw this massive sized box. They weren't kidding about sending it in mint cond. My goodie is like 1/3 the size of the shipping box. AT LEAST, the box is in great shape for recycling it for another adventure in the mail. I am not sure as to why they feel it is needed to crowd storage ares where not needed. Shouldar shrug.
I remember when I quit smoking, I got a free present from the cig company.... a pair of sunglasses, in a 2 foot by 2 foot by 3 foot box that told me I was a winner.... lol!
First, let John know, they sell pencils here in Houston. Unless it was one of those special "space" pencils that writes upside-down or something.
Second, I bet the problem got introduced at the gift-wrapping level. Two separate people probably wrapped the gifts. Since they don't have the option "Wrap all items in this order in the same package", they have to assume they are for two people. Speculation, but just a guess.
Third, the light from behind means you're being divinely inspired.
It sounds like Amazon is either using outsourced packers... OR, they have disgruntled domestic packers that are taking their frustrations out on your shipments!
Go whiners! ;> Yeah it's sad how they package stuff. Part of this is that transportation service providers have the concept of standard size boxes. If you don't fit size1, you can as well take a box of size2. It doesn't make sense for Amazon to keep boxes of sizes in between since the shipping costs won't change and it's cheaper to have less types of boxes. Then there's also a problem of just stupid packaging: CD in an envelope, etc. I hope increasing gas prices will force reinventing logistics.
I used to ship orders for a company that sold stuff through the internet. We only had a couple of different sized boxes, like you said. Fewer box choices somehow equals lower overhead.
never had any bad experience with amazon. i just buy movies not other stuff. maybe buy books or CDs too.

The Idea is to keep people working for
these companies to not loose your
Items. that is Five Finger Discounts.
The Items Tend not to make it to there destination. for say. Garntee that Ill see a bigger box in my van or airplane ext.
versious a little ittty bitty box. Not trying to
be Wastfull . It would be just to easy for your carrier to hide something that small
in there pockets . WareHouse thifs are very common. Some times it whole groups who perform the actions.

Three Words:
Don't Buy Amazon.
Because of their dreadful waste of materials and lack of green thinking.

who cares about green thinking

Obviously, YOU don't care, but you will when the next new landfill opens next to your neighborhood.

Maybe they didn't want to take the chance for the pencil to get lost in the mail!!

Good Point! Some retailers are really bad in that respect and its just annoying when its all for something so small.
I recently bought a USB cable that was in three thick plastic package shells and from a super store that had a "reusable" shopping bag policy.
Thanks for the vid!

These were two-day shipments, so they'd better not be outsourcing the packing! =)
