I can handle spread and get the concept of a shotgun, smooth bore, etc. but that does not excuse the breach seal that fails so quickly.

The only way to keep this gun working is to have extra seals ready for when the main seal fails. Gamo sells the replacements.

when you do.. make sure to get a scope stop as well.. the BSA scope does not clamp tight enough to hold still without one.

i do understand hard to get this kind of rifle acurate with smooth barrel since it also works as shotgun,

but seal most realy be able to last more than 100 rounds that is just so crap/wrong ! ;-)

Yes I did. I sent 2 of them back actually. I still have the last replacement they sent back. I just ordered a mess of replacement seals. I've always thought that it would make a good snake gun. especially in tight places or around houses. I have a ranch in TX where it will be residing now that I have the parts to keep it running.

Now that it is out of production maybe it will become a collector's item.

You're reviews have helped me pick out only the best performing air guns. I own the Shadow Express, and it performed amazingly. Up until, due to my own error, it blew out the seal where the seal has been blown out on yours. It is fixable, and it still functions perfectly. I'm losing velocity with the shells, and the pellets do not come out of the barrel.

My overall question is, do you know of where, or how I can obtain a replacement seal? Please and thank you.

The best bey will be to call Gamo's customer service department and see if you can get one from them.  If you can, let me know.. I'd like to fix mine and use it just for rattle snakes out at the ranch in TX.

first of all... why would you.? but secondly, you reduce the velocity, and could create too much back pressure in the gun and damage the seal or the spring.

I had that same exact problem and sent it back and got another and the same damn thing happened so this time i just made a seal outa some faucet seal thing and so far its holding up. I tryed callin and emailing Gamo about the issue but no response. I wasnt very happy and havnt bought another one of their guns.

When I "mod" a gun like that I'll have to buy it. Until I get more independent support I'll have to just put it on the back burner. When it works.. even with the smooth bore it shot .22 pellets OK and with pretty decent power.. but the seal always gets nicked and then fails.. I got .5" groups at 15 yards when it was working... it's not the smooth bore that's the problem.. it is the poor design and placement of the seal.

I'm guessing you mean rifled barrel, and yes that does effect accuracy. The barrel is smooth bore because of the shotgun feature. The Pellet feature shoots hard and can be pretty accurate with the right pellet... that is until the breach seal gives out.

Any hance this gun get a fair shake at a review? I mean why upload it when it is an incomplete review? This gun is a poor rifle and a decent air shotgun. I have it and the only time I use it is with shotshells for birds and works great for pigeon sized birda at 20-30 feet not like a real shotgun where you can shoot birds at more than 40 yards. Hopefully you get to redo it..

I hope to get the opportunity to do a "proper" and "complete" review. But both of the rifles that I've tested failed before I could get anywhere with them. Both of them had breach seals that failed. Once they get back from the shot show I should get mine back from the repair shop.

It looks like your seal is being crush whenever the barrel is closed causing malfunctions. You may wanna trim the seal so that it barely brushes the adapter or shotshell when closed. Hope this saves you a trip to the post office or atleast a few pellets. Happy Holidays!

i have had both the camo viper express and the gamo shadow express i like both of them alot but the vipers seal tore so i pawned it to a local pawn shop. and my shadow is looking like if the seal is tearing so i think im going to try to put like a home made seal. well try my best. if you have any ideas please tell on how to fix it. man this is kinda sad. but Gamo's locations of the breech seal is kinda stupid anyway. i think the breech seal should always be on the broken barrel, not at the end of the compression chamber. that's a sharp little chisel detent below the barrel on the breech (that locks the barrel in place.) of that barrel. do you think the chisel could be nicking the breech seal?

Funny thing, some idiots broke in to my house and among the things they stole was the Maxima that had broke a few days before and I hadn't done nothing about it yet. Anyways I had have three Gamos before, and all of them have been quite decent.

i think the gun is more ment for the shot shells but it would be cool for it to have good accurasy andif it kept its seal. there are ways to reload the shells but the videos on youtube that show it arnt good there is a tighter spread but the velocity sucks
