You're actually all right. Since there's no Law or something that defines the genres of music. Most country's have different terms for different genres. Dutch terms differ from UK terms and UK terms differ from US terms.
In the Netherlands, we mostly refer to electronic dance music with the term 'house music', and then it's house music > trance, techno, hardstyle, house (yeah even house is a subgenre of house music).
In other countries, they say 'techno' instead of 'house music'.
