Such a perfect video of that Sunday at Ocean Beach! I was sitting on the opposite side and it really looked like that barrel just swallowed him whole. Looking at this video you can see Slater created the barrel by riding fast and high and rode the close-out all the way through like a pit-bull on meth. True Entertainment!

From the shore, and with the left current, the crowd was in line with the whitewater, and had counted it unlikely to be makeable after 3 seconds on a barrel-less day. You can hear the friendly sigh at 1:51. But he ends up coming out at 1:52, after starting at 1:48, a solid 4 seconds. The horn was the start of the next heat, not the end of his, but what a resounding exclamation point on a pure soul ride of no point value!
