Psp and ps3 does this aswell. Ps3 has a card game called eye of judgement that does basically the same thing as this. Psp has invizibles which is a pokemon like game, in invizibles u can do this. Sony did it first, nintendo did it first in 3d.

So far as I know that's not a hologram, not at all. :/ It's the 3ds camera showing what it sees as the background of the game. Which would be why the little"L[cam]" button is over there. The 3DS uses these cards to affect the games and make it more fun on the 3DS screen. Looking at the card normally (not via the 3DS screen) will reveal it's still just a card.

even better With the current yugioh cards it will just make the 3D version of the monsters with ease and when you activate spells and traps they will do the intented actions like lighting votrex. thunder wil destory your monster like in the anime. pokemon could be even better seeing as you can give them stuff and the batlles will take place on a Special PKM BATTLE CARD You just focus the 3DS cameras on it and let the batlle commence!

ok so if the charecters that appear in AR can appear in places other than over the card,than i really dont see the need for use of the card,you could just have an onscreen menu with a list of images that could appear in AR and select one from there ,then move it where u want likr the kid in the vid is moving the mii arround everywhere,it only inputs a code that pulls up an image ,the samr thing could be done from an onscreen menu instead,and u would still have your AR

It then uses the card as a reference to tell if you are moving and in what direction so it can adjust the image it's displaying according. This give the illusion that not only is there a character on the table, but that you can move around in the real world to look at it from different angles.
