@trevjr Is it just my perception, or do a lot people get very weird about non-Spaniards playing Spanish guitar music (both classical and flamenco)?
Granted, some people truly haven't taken the time to learn a proper rasgueado, but an increasing number have who are not Gitanos Andaluces.
It's not like Americans go around carping at the rest of the world about their supposed inability to play jazz, nor do the Germans insist that Mahler can only be properly banged out by German symphonies.
I cannot describe the feeling I had when I first listened to this. He plays a theme, repeats it one octave higher while developing it giving it more depht. Then there are some dissonances and then..1:43 purely awesome, Rodrigo repeats the theme another octave higher. This sounds like the player is very craving. And Mr. Ducharme is wonderfully gifted so he can express this aspiration.
I just sat here in my room and had an eargasm if that word exists :-)

Segovia's version is much more staid and dignified, so drenched in that ambient reverb, but (with all respect to the old man, may he forgive me) clumsy during those descending triplets (?) - Jerome plays it so fluidly, I'm just astounded. What an amazing talent !
The guitar is made in Montreal by René Wilhelmy...prices are of course rising... now in the range of 8 to 10 thousand can. Check out the makers website.
No wonder you won that competition Jerome - truly masterful playing, you´re equal to Segovia´s rendition, undubitably. Your finger work needs no other comment as well as all the emotions embedded in the song..Thanks for upload.
Those lucky enough to have heard Andres Segovia playing this Fandango by Rodrigo might agree with me in saying that his rendition is the single greatest piece of guitar music ever played. However, I must say that Jerome Ducharme here gets pretty close to Segovia's sublime magic, in his technical prowess and musicality. Extraordinary.
I agree, Even though this guy is Great!!, My Segovia Long Playing records in the Late '70's is still by FAR the STANDARD in my Opinion...Segovia Interpretation = NO ONE HAS MATCHED THAT ominpotent LEVEL YET....ALL THE REST ARE COPYCATS...Though I respect their dedication
Best perfomance of this piece EVER ! Merci Jérôme.. :-)

Dylla plays it way better in my opinion, with a more spanish sound and feeling, and he's Polish.

We as musicians do interpret the rhythms differently. Plays it a bit too rushed for my liking

@thebeerbaron666 i agree. not sounding spanish enough. being spanish doesn't mean it has to be rushed

Not second to anyone is this interpratation. I think of Pepe´s great interpretation, but Segovia is a sluggard alongside this.
