  • Raocow you have come a long way :D

  • Wow the sound is real ygood.

  • wow. didn't mean to contribute to the ignition of this video critique escapade, but i watched this pain-free. and the fact that you put in the time to even read the comments let alone make changes, test and verify them publicly truly speaks to your character. sincerely, thank you, raocow! this is why you're the most elected executive officer of our anarcho-syndicalist commune of Let Us Play. [would have just said 'LP king' but that just doesn't taste good to say]

  • how do you get it so it doesn't shut off automatically?

  • I must say I really like the music in this game...

  • Dunno... I didn't mind the frame rate before but I sure mind the sound here. I'm posting this after collecting my eardrums. They were near Mars. If felt as if you were wrestling the music, but then you had to use your drill, and it was as if the sound became supersaiyan, and that was the last heard of poor ol' raocow. Quite sad.

  • I was ok with how Nitroid was before, then again, visual quality isn't something that is a deciding factor in my enjoyment of a video, lol! But this is definitely better. Much smoother. The only issue I have is the game audio, which was too loud and drowned out your voice. But, that wasn't the point of this video of course.

  • The double channelness is messing with my ears XD

  • Hey, thanks for the little surprise, raobuddy! Yeah, the framerate is great!

  • I like the loud game sound.

  • That's so Raocow. Even for something that insignificant as a frap test video he still silly! By the way. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better. I watched both first episodes on an iPod, my eye still hurt and I keep finding pieces of my brain all over the place. OH well !

  • Yup, game sound is very loud, which is an unfortunate aspect of FRAPS in that it always records your speakers at max possible volume with no volume control.

Have you tried using Dxtory? Although that does depend on whether or not Dxtory would work with your games, since it runs with less programs that what FRAPS can work with, but at least Dxtory doesn't tend to impact CPU as much, and the recorded file actually has game audio and any other input sources like your mic, as separate audio tracks.

  • don't see no difference here mister

that said ... I don't rll care for 'visual quality' in a raocow video, it's your homur I love

  • If you're using a newer version of Fraps, you should also be able to enable a setting that records your entire desktop, if you're going to keep trying Fraps for future videos and perhaps taking it to your Mario videos.

Though that does mean you'll need to crop the video in post, though. As far as I remember, ZSNES itself isn't compatible with how Fraps "hooks" into games.

  • Nice, direct audio recording provides a big audio quality boost too, it just needs to be made a bit quieter.

  • this was very entertaining for just a test :P

  • Yeah, Fraps is WAY better than your old setup, but the game volume definitely needs to be lowered a bit.

  • Don't be silly. Fraps takes two buttons! :)

  • This is much better! It would be great if you could use fraps to record the SMW vids as well. :D

  • The framerate on the other videos was no different than usual.

  • Wow, perfection! It was much easyer on my eyes. Thanks Raocow! :D

  • Not much difference for me. *shrug*

  • A lot better, I'm glad you actually take the extra effort :)

  • Fraps' files are quite enormous; not sure how Camstasia is, but just be aware of the file sizes 'ol buddy!

  • @Syger

They're enormous before you compress them, because the footage you get is raw, uncompressed, pure video that you can do anything you want with. Camtasia/Camstudio compress the file right after recording basically, so you get a reasonably sized file.

No reason not to use Fraps if your hard drive's big enough.

  • @LaughingThesaurus I know, just pointing it out so Raocow's drive doesn't suddenly fill up mid-session!

  • Raocow has gotten his Raocow back.

  • Yes, its much better, though i think the game audio is a tad bit loud.

  • Much better, thank you :D

  • This is extremely better in regards to video quality and framerate. Your audio levels are way off, however.

  • WOW a raocow video that doesn't have a framerate with the consistency of complete and utter ASS, finally joining 2011 with the rest of us, eh mr.cow

  • hmm.... looks a bit funky to me, but if the other stuff is giving others a headache, this works for me =3

  • poor raocow having to read comments with a bunch of his fans bickering with each other =(

  • @Proto7y93Ness >:C it's not my fault I am taking my rage out on the stupid intertets! If it was acceptable to just go shoot someone in the face I would but NOOOOOO so i have to do it HERE /.,mnbvcxzasdfghjkl;'\][poiyutrewq`1234567890-=';lkjhgfdsaqwertyuiop[]\/.,mnbvcxz`1235467890-\][poiuytrewqasdfghjkl;'

/.,mnbvcx *slams my face aganst the wall*

  • VICTORY!!!!

    that is all

  • Even audio is better, even when bit too loud.

  • Nitroid really is iffy to record. I tried it with Hypercam 2 a while ago, but when I put in more than 10 fps for it, the video would be all over the place. Don't know if that was what you were using.

What I'm seeing here looks really good, though.

  • what I learned while using fraps, 1. Have a set file on your desktop or documents because going all the way to the program file folder is lame. 2. turn down the volume of the computer to half what it was set before. (not speakers the taskbar volume thing) 3. If you have an external hard drive you can save directly to that. 4. it seems like a pain but in reality it's not that bad

  • FRAPS tends to have better quality, but you *have* to compress the videos yourself, while I believe Camtasia does it for you. I use FRAPs, myself.

  • Definitely better.

  • video is much better, but from personal experience I've found fraps to be kinda annoying and uses up way too much space when making long videos

  • @nuhji8 simple fixs: pause the recording when you are stuck, get an external hard drive with a terabyte (very inexpressive nowadays) and record directly to that because I doubt you are going to surpass 1000GB of space in one sitting, or grow up and accept makeing videos requires the patience to deal with large files if need be. camtasia saves just as big if not bigger files.

  • @DarkDemonWolf76 actually camtasia makes them quite a bit smaller i find seeing as during one recording with fraps that was maybe 30mins long it used like 30GB and I've never had camtasia use more then like 8-10, also if i could afford it i would have a 1TB external but I can't

  • @nuhji8 (and @DarkDemonWolf76)

Fraps does record larger files than Camtasia. Fraps doesn't encode the video that it makes, it records raw video for better quality. I just deal with it, then use Camtasia to edit and render them, and then I use an encoding software to encode the entire session into a smaller format, so I can keep it for my records.

  • @Mesmerale Windows movie maker works fine for me I record my voice on my laptop with sound recorder and pop the fraps video and sound file together in WMM get a nice sized 480p video and poof done. no encoding or compressing or all that crap why should I do a bunch of extra crap I don't need to and achieve the same thing.

  • @DarkDemonWolf76 WMM is doing the encoding for you, so yes, you ARE Still encoding/compressing the video... ... ...

  • @DarkDemonWolf76 Like NightKev said, WMM is encoding the video for you when you render it. I do the same thing with Camtasia, I just take the raw footage and encode that /also/, just the purpose of making my backups smaller.

  • @Mesmerale ya know what who cares what me or you use this was intended to be advice for raocow now were acting all dumb like a bunch of childrens so we are to be stoping now the fighting and let the man pick his own preforances yes?

  • @DarkDemonWolf76 ...

    1) We aren't fighting.

    2) This wasn't about Raocow, it was about that nuhji8 dude and giving him advice (and my throwing in just random information to you, so that you could use it in the future.)

    3) Speak for yourself about the dumb thing. I'm acting quite normal. *shrug*

  • @Mesmerale *rolls around on the floor noming the end of my tail while sirens all over go off* `1234567890-=QWERTYUIOP[]ASDFGHJKL;'ZXCVBNM,./\

  • @nuhji8 I don't know were you live but here in America a hard drive is any were from 20-50 dollars that's it because they have bigger hard drives now maybe a f ew years ago a 1T hard drive was expensive but not now lol and that just depends on what kind of video card you have if yours can handle 1080p it will record in 1080p which will resalt in higher file sizes I recorded for 1 hour 40 minutes and the files were not even 20 GB all together so you sir are a liar.

  • @DarkDemonWolf76 I live in Canada not America and it might be cause my fraps was prob an older version anyway if you look through one of my earlier videos you'll see a point where i get a HUGE amount of lag that was due to fraps having used almost all the remaining space on my HDD, which was around 26-30GB area at the time. not sure which video it was though

  • @DarkDemonWolf76 If you recorded into raw video in 1080p format for 100 minutes...that's AT LEAST 30gb. Or else you weren't filming it in 1080p. (And 5 years ago 1tb hard-drives didn't even exist)

  • @TheTogarda raw 1080p video for 100 minutes is AT LEAST 30 gb? What kind of video are you working with? I record in 480p for an hour and it can end up being 200 gigs...

  • @TheTogarda FEW= 3 stupid. My comp is standered and even if it was HD I don't need to record at 1080p because I am not a stupid graphics whore. Just leave me alone and go do whatever you were doing before you started being a moron and replying to someone who obviously dose not care about your opinions and is going to continue to repeat themselves and make you look like a moron because everyone will think you are "feeding the troll" I do it my way you do it your way...piss off :3

  • @DarkDemonWolf76 That comment made almost no sense whatsoever. I really don't see why you raged like that. I would just like to add that you just invalidated your previous comment with this one. First you said "NO, it does NOT take up that much space when you film like that" and then you go "I never film like that because I'm not a "stupid graphics whore"". This completely destroys the whole argument which you had earlier. Apparently you will now "repeat yourself", have a nice day mr. "troll".

  • Much, much better. Thank you, Raocow.

  • you should disable "record Win7 sound" or whatever it is for you, that way the game isn't as loud and it records from your mic...

  • @green929392 no all he needs to do is lower the volume of windows

  • @green929392 He always records the game sound though, why would you want him to omit it completely?

  • @NightKev im not sure but i think he has it playing from his speakers and his mic picks it up along with his voice

  • The sound's louder because it's coming straight from the game, rather than raocow's speakers.

  • Worlds better.

  • The frame rate was much better, however there appears to be some loss of detail in certain elements, most notable the darker fuzzy guy's faces, and the "HUD" (energy and life bar, drill indicator).

  • Just don't lower the game sound too much either. It's not good when it's this loud, but at least I tend to dislike it when the commentary voice is too loud in comparison to the game music. Hopefully you can find a good balance between the two.

  • Just to reinforce all the other comments saying the same thing, the video is great now, no more frame drop when scrolling the screen side to side, but the audio is a bit too high

  • Yesss much better! Thanks rao! :)

As ProjectSilence already said, game sound is a bit loud compared to your voice, but other than that there's really nothing to complain about :)(:

  • Echoing other comments. Looks FANTASTIC. Game sound is a bit loud.

  • Quality is very good. Now if you can lower the game music a bit, it would be perfect.

  • I just watched a video of a framerate test. I am too bored today.

  • This video quality is infinitely better.

  • Oh I DID have a headache earlier, but was it because of this..?

  • I use Fraps a lot for Minecraft videos, among others. The video edits well and easily in Camtasia Studio.

  • First thing you got to get used to with fraps is the huge filesize, other than that its has a nice quality.

  • He should have been singing Kapanet Nitori.

  • Welp.

  • Dunno what you did, but it worked 8D

  • The video quality is perfect, the game sound is as people say, a little to loud.

  • what do you use for editing? the biggest pain w/ FraPS is that it outputs in 4gb chunks and i could see editing a typical raovideo would be a pain in the ass

  • @quadrophrenic

The size of the chunks should have no influence on editing. Having one huge chunk or multiple smaller chunks has never posed problems while editing to me because in the end it's the material (the actual video) that causes the trouble not the size (in GB). (Which is due to fraps not compressing the files which is a good thing considering quality.)

  • @AirandiusLetsPlay

i'm saying the chunks will need to be spliced together, which is an extra step in the workflow which could cause issues. I recommend AviSynth, because it lets you edit video without screwing up the source video, but it's a script, so there's a bit of a learning curve. I usually edit my fraps-recorded videos w/ AviPMod.

  • The game audio is a bit loud, but this is MUCH better.

  • Much nicer.

  • The video quality is dramatically improved. This should be the new standard IMO.

  • :D It is very noticeable for those of us who know what FPS means lol!!

  • It's much, much better. I think even the sound is way better.

  • I honestly see no difference. I'm sure it's just me.

  • @Shadyguy111 I think your shadyness has blinded you, good sir.

  • Alot better, higher FPS=WIN

  • alot better

  • Way better, and another thing; doesn't fraps also record in fullscreen? Thus ridding you of a technical difficulty?

  • Better. Some artifact things show up oddly, but I'm pretty sure that's Youtube, or compression, or whatever. Yeah, this is better.

Thank you Raocow for considering your fans.

  • the video quality is way better, but the gamesound is a bit loud

  • @ProjectSilence

Yeah, but the game's sound can always be lowered to what sounds best, so that's nothing major to worry about :D

  • Ofcourse its better, Fraps records uncompressed avi. Camtasia can too, but it requires some setup.

  • it's better

  • This is far, far better. I was really struggling to watch the previous videos, so uh, thanks for taking the time to sort it out!

  • could use some hd and audio leveling but that wasnt really the point of the upload

anyway yeah the frame rate is pretty sexy now

  • Perfect mister the cowrao! I just hope you have enough harddrive space left, as fraps will eat your free space like it was... dare I say it? No thing!

  • Yes, way better

  • Much better indeed! XD Just need some audio adjustments and leveling.

But the video is way clearer and smoother!

    Thx!

  • Yeah this is much better.

  • Looks great, Raocow!

o.o Do you SERIOUSLY do that stream-of-consciousness rambling all the time? That's kinda cool, hah.

  • @WatcherCCG Have you ever seen the Megaman II Races? He wasn't all that rambly in that one. Especially not compared to Medibot.

  • look much better. glad to see this fixed!

  • This is WAY better.
