  • This rivalry will NEVER be forgotten. As a Longhorn fan, I say thanks to the TRUE class of the A&M fans. Texas fans around Hawaii send their BEST well wishes to our the Aggies in their journey to victory in the SEC. God Bless you and Thank You for the TRUE class you show to us Longhorn fans. Even though I'm not an alumna or student Texas Austin, I am a die hard fan and wish the very best to our brothers in Aggie Land! HOOK EM HORNS AND GIG EM AGGIES!!

  • Although we were and shall always rivals, we are related through the state of Texas. May the Aggies be happy in the SEC. As a Longhorn, we wish you well.

  • Although we were and shall always rivals, we are related through the state of Texas. May the Aggies be happy in the SEC.

  • Today we play our final game....

It was this moment that is my proudest as a LONGHORN....

  • Absolute class through and through. I am brought to tears to see the Texas and Aggie flags side-by-side. As a Texan and an Aggie, I am, to this day, moved by the class of the Longhorn band and the Longhorn fans on this day.

  • I'm a longhorn, but that was just literally amazing to see the UT and A&M flag side by side

  • I'm a die hard aggie fan. Through thick and thin, I'm an aggie. But hats off to one of the most classy coaches in Mack brown, and the longhorn band. Gig'em and hook'em

  • Oh how I am proud to be a Texan

  • @13VO are y'all going to steal our horse again and spray paint aTm on it and kill another one? I don't even think aggies know why techies don't like them. Learn about the history.

  • I'm an Aggie, but even I have to admit this is showing a lot of class from the Longhorns.

It just goes to show that we may have our differences, but at the end of the day, we are all citizens of the greatest state in the USA.

Gig Em Aggies and Hook Em Horns!

  • @NoClassPranking

From a Texas Longhorn alum: I agree... we be's rivals on the playing fields, but when all is said and done, we is and always will be, TEXANS!!

  • anyone notice the guy wearing the North Carolina hat?

  • The LHB will definitely do something like this this weekend for the tragic death of the Wyoming player.

  • I was in the upper deck with tears streaming down my face during the playing of this song and taps...NEVER was I prouder to be a LONGHORN

I was hoping that there would be a nice tribute to the ones that perished and this seemed/seems a perfect way to honor those poor students that died.

    May God Bless their souls...

  • random UNC hat at 2:42 lol. but i was almost to tears during this.

  • hook em aggies!

  • I used to hate the Longhorns. And I enjoyed it. How the hell am I supposed to hate them after this?

  • Too beautiful for words. I'm A&M class of 2006, and the Longhorn band is just incredible.

  • im a longhorn, but im not ashamed to admit that its just a rivalry, i have not hatred whatsoever for a&m and i'm proud of our boys for showin that when it comes down to it we're all on the same team. we'll see yall later this year for 1 hell of a game!

    Hook'em Horns

  • lol lil kids these days

  • The comments on this board are just outright sickening. I don't know how anyone could let hatred of a rival stoop to that level, particularly in their rival's time of need.

I am a Longhorn, and I will always be a Longhorn. I can't stand the Aggies, but I stand beside them when they're in need. Hook 'em Horns and gig 'em Aggies!

  • Though neither a Longhorn or Aggie, I lived in Texas 13 years. UT and A&M have a great rivalry and each think their school and teams are best. They rib each other terribly, but the aggression is left to the players on the field. I have never witnessed any true hatred towards one another. The tribute by the band was beautiful. I read that the A&M students by tradition only sit when the Longhorn band plays. They stood during this awe-inspiring tribute.

  • @kfederer This is true. I've missed only a handful of games since I began to buy season tickets in the mid 80s and this is one of only two times I've ever seen the student section stand for another band(2001 game after 9/11 - OK State band is the other). While we are bitter rivals on the field, we are friends and family off of it and I have the utmost respect for the Longhorn Band for this touching tribute. Hook 'Em Horns and Gig 'Em Ags. Proud to be a Texan!

  • Shame this has been hijacked for flaming. As a Horn, I was proud that the band chose to honor those killed in the bonfire. I love the rivalry, but we're all Texans in the end. God bless the state, UT and A&M.

  • Here

Thank you Longhorn Band. I will never forget this tribute as long as I live.

    11/18/99 We Will Never Forget

  • Just wondering if Tech will do the same. They (Raiders) will probably knock down the goal post and slam it to the other end -injuring people.

  • @13VO Tech fans are trash!

  • here. and thanks Longhorns. 10 years later

  • this is so powerful. i'm so glad the two schools could put a rivalry aside out of respect for each other.

  • "two institutions are great rivals, but more importantly, great friends who have the highest amount of respect for each other. may the longhorn spirit and the spirit of aggieland never die."

powerful words. 10 years later, this performance is just as powerful.

Thank you University of Texas. Thanks and Gig 'em.

  • Everyday, millions of poor children in the US go without healthcare, while you laugh at the dead of others...you're a model citizen.

  • lol really?

Obama came to College Station last month to speak at our public service initiative forum, and by the way commended our public service to the community here.

And look up Big Event, the biggest service project in the nation, done here in Aggieland.

    Case Closed.

    Thanks and Gig 'Em.

  • well then be thankful you have the internet to hide your face, you coward.

  • UT showed so much class and respect. I was there and still get teary eyed watching this. Thank you from an Old Ag.

  • I was in the Longhorn Band in 1999. This was the most awesome thing I have been apart of musically. There was not a dry eye in the house.

  • This will remain one of my favorite Kyle Field memories, and I have many.

  • I was to be at the bonfire that collapsed. I was flying from Seattle to go with my best friends and his wife and kids. I had just got off the phone with my friends when the tragedy took place. I'd hoped the LHB's halftime would included something honoring the Aggies. This tribute was an answered prayer. I can assure you there was not a dry eye in the place.

I've never been prouder of the Univ. of TEXAS than on this day.

GOD BLESS, those who died and their families and friends....

  • What the video didn't capture was a long line of white longhorn flags dipping in front of a single maroon A&M flag held high by a member of the LHB. That gesture sucked the air out of the stadium and the tears began to flow.

The Aggies, btw, came from behind to beat a far superior Texas team that day. You knew it had to be, and the UT fans left the stadium more overpowered by the emotion of the day than disappointed by the loss to their rival.

  • You could also only see a little bit of it, but the LHB removed their hats when they were done playing TAPS. That's essentially the highest gesture of respect LHB shows, aside obviously from playing Amazing Grace and TAPS. And, LHB didn't march off the field to the fight song, they simply marched off to a snare tap cadence.

Wonder if LHB will do anything for the ten year remembrance of the tragedy?

  • I was blessed to be in the stadium that day and not a dry eye in the house for sure. What an amazing moment in time this was. Made you proud to be a Texan no matter what colors you wore.

Ever since that day I have resisted using the term "hate" to describe the UT / A&M rivalry. That word might apply to UT / OU or to A&M / Tech. But it does NOT apply to UT / A&M. Hopefully the moment is never forgotten and the special bond between the schools lasts.

More like sibling rivalry I'd say.

  • this is Texas class at its best-from both Aggies and Longhorns... As a longhorn myself, I feel proud to be apart of this rivalry that in a tragedy like this, we can come together-no matter the colors.

  • I agree, Life is more important than anything els

  • Whoop and Hook 'em.

  • To this day, God bless both.

  • I am a die hard Aggie fan, but when I saw for the first time, I couldn't help but cry. Its wonderful to see how the University of Texas paid their respects to one of their most fierce rivals.

We may be rivals, but we are Texans. We are both apart of the greatest state in the world.

God Bless Texas A&M and the University of Texas

  • not a dry eye in the house during this performance. Classy Texas, VERY classy!

  • That gives me chills every time I see that. I agree, that is class at its best.

  • as an die hard aggie i still choke up seeing that, no other way to say it than class.

  • Class!

  • This was the best half time performance of all time... Still brings tears to my eyes..what a great way to pay tribute to all that lost thier lives. Thank you Longhorn band

  • I have always likened the TEXAS-a&m rivalry to brothers that can't seem to get along. You fight and bicker all the time. But in the end, you are still brothers. Most of us have family and friends from the oter side. I graduated from TEXAS in 99 and most of my family went to a&m. I hate it when we lost to a&m, but on that day in 99, it really didnt bother me.

  • First time I've seen this. Maybe longhorns do have class because that was nothing but pure respect. Thank You Texas Longhorns

  • that was so moving. when in hard times, even UT and A&M have respect for eachother. i was there, and will never forget that they did that. Ag '01

  • Good Bull, T-sips.

  • to whoever gave the thumbs down, "good bull" is aggie talk for something that represents the aggie spirit in a positive way. he was not calling it b.s. if thats what you were thinking

  • @GigEmAgs2011 good class, asshole

  • @HamBurglerMan just so you know, in aggie terms there are two phrases: good bull and bad bull. obviously good bull is an act of goodness and bad bull is a bad act. just thought i'd let you know before you go judging people.

  • That was pure class. Nothing else needs to be said.

  • I remember seeing this on television back in '99. It sent chills up and down my spine then, and still does when I watch these clips now. (Too bad the networks no longer broadcast the band half-time shows.) Just goes to show you that even though we're rivals, when push comes to shove, we're all Texans and we will stick together in adversity. Way to go band! You make me proud to be a Longhorn fan.

  • As A horn living in aggieland...i can tell you that this Ags respect the heck out of UT. Though they are rivals...they are brothers. I have never seen how some of the Ags pulling for UT on red river rivalry game against OU. SO there, I can tell you that they (Ags) will do the same. Infact, maybe even more. Good luck Aggies on this year's football. Take it easy on Sherman!

    Hook 'em! Beat the Sooners!

  • That was a good one!!!I respect the aggies alot! So in sprit of rivalry...Let us beat the SOONERS!!!

  • @bevostumpedrevielle whooooooooop!!!!!

  • I am class of '02 and was at this Longhorn Band performance. That is the best I have ever hear Amazing Grace sound. To this day, I still come to tears and goosebumps when I hear video/sound clips of the Longhorn Band playing Amazing Grace as they did. I have no doubt in my mind that MY Aggie community would stand behind Longhorns in their time of need. Please, if you have an issue you don't understand, do not waste other human beings time by sharing it.

  • I think that the Aggies would do something like this for UT. I know the two schools hate eachother but there comes a time when its appropriate for a rivalry and a time when you put the bad blood aside and help the other one through a time of need. A rivalry is not just someone you love to beat, but its someone who is there to pick you up when you fall and i would expect nothing less from the Aggies...

  • How could you possibly "pretty much know they wouldn't?" Your comment is not only an insult to the Aggie family but to the human spirit. I would like to think, Aggie or Longhorn or neither, that humans would respond in kind to any tragedy as what happened with the bonfire

  • that is the most ignorant thing i have heard in a long time. there is a much bigger picture in life than a school rivalry. i am "pretty much" sure that anyone would do that when something like that happens.

  • Knowing the two leaders of the Aggie band for several years now, yes they would have come up with something duly appropriate.

  • you are a moron if you think A&M wouldnt do the same in return. how dare you say otherwise. you probably have nothing to do with either institution. if you did, you would understand.

  • As A horn living in Aggieland...i can tell you that this Ags respect the heck out of UT. Though they are rivals...they are brothers. I have never seen how some of the Ags pulling for UT on red river rivalry game against OU. Come and check the local sports club during the games. SO there, I can tell you that they (Ags) will do the same. Infact, maybe even more. Good luck Aggies on this year's football. Take it easy on Sherman!

    Hook 'em! Beat the Sooners!

  • You're wrong and it's sad that you actually thought of something like this. My only guess is you are an outsider with no perspective in this rivalry whatsoever. While there are jabs and things can get heated, this rivalry always remains respectful which is what makes it one of the best in the country.

  • In response to rockergirl83:

Then you "pretty much" have no idea what you're talking about, because as an Aggie myslef--no matter how much we can despise t.u. at times--we're all Texans and still have the utmost respect for their institution.

My sister is a senior at Texas and I'm a student at A&M. The rivalry is real, but the respect is greater.

I am proud to be an Aggie, and equally proud to be a Longhorn sibling.

    Thanks and Gig 'Em.

  • THis still brings chills to me. I can't stop saying this but this is TRUE CLASS of U T to ATM. HOOK EM HORNS AND GIG EM AGGIES!!

  • Although I am a HUGE Aggie fan, I can't help but respect the University of Texas for this noble gesture.

  • This is just another example of why we are so proud of our Longhorns.

  • Yes, Kevin Sedatole was director then and is a good man of integrity. Disappointing loss for UT's band and the Baylor program as he is now in Michigan.

  • i have never seen this! i am an aggie, thank you!!! the spirit of aggieland will never die!

  • My son was a fish in the Corps this year. This made me rethink the whole rudeness of the A&M/UT rivalry. What a class act! Thank you years later.

  • I'm an Aggie, but this will forever make me appreciate the Longhorns class in this circumstance.

  • everything about this event brings me to tears...

  • it may be tense on Gameday and we may not ever get along, but a gracious gesture like shows outsiders just how much the aggies and longhorns do respect each other... even if it dosent always seem that way

  • You would never see LSU or Florida show this much class as the Texas band did on that day. The LSU fans would have been mocking the fallen aggies.....

  • You are wrong about that. LSU gave a tribute to VT just last season that was very touching. LSU had been the recipients of incredible hospitality following the hurricanes and were happy to return the gesture.

  • From an Aggie Cadet to the Longhorn Band, thank you for your respect.

However it is sad that it takes death for rivals to treat eachother kindly.

  • As a former cadet, member of the Aggie Band, and cadet working stack the night it fell, I appreciate the Longhorn Band for that halftime performance.

As for the above comment, it is sad that you have that kind of mentality. On a whole, there is always a level of respect between Aggies and Longhorns.

  • Well then I guess I just have to see it to believe it. I am a natural born cynic. Sorry.

  • That was a sad event in A&M history. I may be a UT fan, but beneath the rivalry, we are all Americans and Texans. God bless the fallen in this terrible tragedy and God bless the Lone Star State.

  • absolute class right there. I'm a diehard longhorn all my life, bleeding burnt orange and all - but this gives me goosebumps. Hook'em Ags, and Gig 'em Horns.

  • I've been an Aggie my entire life. Even when I was a kid, I called the tu band the Pansy Band for those ridiculous "Will Rodgers" uniforms.

But even to this day, watching this brings tears to my eyes. I was a friend of Michael Eubanks, who died in the tragedy. I was at the game, and it was the Best Worst day of my life.

  • I'm a Longhorn through and through and every year we play A&M I hate 'em can't stand Aggies but this right here almost made me wanna cry. This brought Aggies and Longhorns together forever. One thing neither of these programs can say about the other is classless. The Longhorns did this for the Aggies and the Aggies would do the same. If you noticed I thought it was pretty cool they had Texas and A&M flags being held up right next to each other. Kind of sums this whole video up.

  • I am a Longhorn fan from Maui/Hawaii and this is "TRUE CLASS" right here. I cried when they played this. HOOK EM HORNS AND FIGHT ON AGGIES!!

  • Whether Aggies or Longhorns, we're all TEXANS!!! Long live the Lone Star State!

  • I was the chairperson for the Aggie Bonfire Coalition that year, and I was there the day the Longhorn band did this and they had everyone in my organization in tears while they were playing. Even though our schools have such a big rivalry, it's amazing to see that we can all come together to show support in times of reverence. Just because the rivalry is there, doesn't mean we don't care for each other!

You can Gig 'Em, you can hook 'em, but every heart must BLESS them!

  • As Drum Major, SMU Mustang Band in 60s&70s

we competed fiercey vs. Longhorn Band

& "hated" Texas.Their great Dir. Emeritus, Vince DiNino is a dear friend.Game Day 1999 Texas Band honored the Texas A&M bonfire tragedy with AMAZING GRACE & TAPS. That was THE CLASS ACT of all times among college bands. The Longhorn Band expressed so beautifully for all of us the empathy, sadness, respect & yes, even love for all Texas A&M stands for.Thank you Texas Aggies for the Spirit of Aggieland.

  • 18 november 1999, the bonfire built annually by Texas A&M students throughout the fall semester and lit before the annual rivalry game against t.u., fell killing 12 students. 12 students who made a sacrifice which embodies everything that being a part of the 12th man means. Never forget them Aggies.

  • what was the A&M Bonfire Tragedy?

  • It was an awesome sight...reminds us all that football is just a game and there are more important things in life. I am an aggie and lost a friend in the tragedy, but gained a lot more when the longhorns came to town that year. Gig 'em Ags...and Hook 'em Horns.

  • I never saw UT the same way after this performance. That was the classiest thing I've ever seen. With much love.

    RWL '01

  • I'm a Longhorn. I was there that day. I teared up. Gig-em....

  • On The field we want to beat each other into the ground, but in life, we all have a little bit of bevo and reveille in us we respect each other and our lives. GIG EM AG'S and Hook EM Horns

  • awesome. gave me chills.

    whoop!

  • Amen...

    Gig 'Em Horns

  • I can still remember that game like it happened yesterday. Before and after the game, there were longhorns embracing aggies. it was a great act of respect from a very classy institution. i will always remember the events that happened that year. thanks for the support horns... God Bless the great state of Texas.

    Gig'em,

    Michael Govea '07

  • What the hell is the matter with you? Go crawl back into the toilet you slithered out of.

  • As a longhorn, shut the hell up.

  • I'm a bleeding-maroon Aggie (Class of 91 -- WHOOP!), and I have to say this memorial by the Longhorn Band was one of the classiest acts I've ever seen. Much appreciated, y'all.

  • When it comes down to it, Longhorn or Aggie, we're all Texan, and that's all that matters at the end of the day.

I'm a Longhorn, but I love those Aggies!

  • HOOK'EM

  • True class. Thanks Longhorns. Gig em

  • Nuff Respect to Texas A&M. True class from the University of Texas to their most respected rivals. May those whose lives were lost be honored through this true class presentation. HOOK EM HORNS AND FIGHT ON AGGIES!!

  • 2 words:

    TRUE

    CLASS

  • As a fourth generation Aggie, I will always say...

...GOD BLESS THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS.

  • I'm an aggie, and I must say that was pretty cool

  • True Class. We are ALL Texans and should stick together. Texas University was so awesome in doing such a noble thing. BTHO big 12 north!!!!!

  • I've always pulled hard for A&M, especially when it came to playing the U.T. However, my impression was forever changed the week following the bonfire tragedy. Not only did was the U.T. Band's performance inspiring, but the School's actions throughout proved that you are a class group. Many other schools offered their condolences, but the University of Texas went above and beyond. Your video is a keeper -- thanks for sharing it!

  • makes me TRUELY proud to be a longhorn fan. You're not lying. True Class.

  • Amen bro! Longhorn Pride and honor! A&M earns all of our respect bro after the tragic A&M bonfire accident. I am so PROUD TO BE A LONGHORN FAN! Jah-Love A&M!

  • True class. Hook 'em

  • Definitely showed alot of class on behalf of the Longhorns. It was awesome how these two rivals set aside their "hate" for such an occasion. I think the rivalry died down a little after UT showed A&M so much support during the Bonfire tragedy.

    GIG EM

    HOOK EM

  • ya if it wuz Tech... they'd do something gay... So I have 2 thank UT for being classy... Just remember... it ends on the football field XD... WHOOP! XD
