See that lower race flexing away from the crown? That's why your headset preload needs to be readjusted after a few good downhills. It's also why manufacturers are moving towards 1.5" (tapered or straight) steerers.
@MrAnsonHunter Would you rather it snap? J/K! The flex is actually good for some degree of vibration damping. I Promise an old Marzocchi Monster T and a fox 40 flex to some degree of flex relative to their size despite being large diameter dual crown forks. You would have no idea how your body would be shaken to peices (not literally but you'd feel it in you arms and hands) if not for this perspective in engineering.
@09hollowtech2 I ride an old set of MOTO120 DH. those inverted large diameter, super stiff, stanchons beat me to death...but i'd rather ride with sore shoulders than go 30mph on the forks seen above. what worries me is the apparent flex where the casting (perhaps a forging but unlikely) meets the steerer tube; either the tube is wallering a hole in the casting...or...scariest of all IT IS DOING THE BENDING!!! if so you're in for a world of hurt. thin wall tubing flexing over and over....ahhhh
@miscuser69 This looks normal, I think it won't snap. It looks like they've isolated hard braking. This is likely not a real load, but it is still carefully chosen to be equivalent to all the hard braking that the fork may be subjected too during the expected life span, with a safety margin of course. A fork may be subjected to way more than 100 000 load cycles but with varying load amplitude. Therefore they have to slightly exaggerate the load in order to "fit" this into a mere 100 000 cycles.
This is bullshit. If the producer wants he could just make in mass production same fork with cheaper materials or less materials and in testing verion, to pass the test, use the proper fork. Best US forks in my opinion are FOX.
@reparatorii A large company like this doesn't change to cheaper/less materials without testing. They don't want the customers to hurt themselves because badwill is pretty darn expensive. Much more expensive than a few grams of steel. This is very important. If the forks were altered in such a way that the production versions were weaker, people could hurt themselves when the forks fail. This would be seriously bad for business.
wonder if my rockshox recon silver tk is that strong too, it has steel upper tubes but the crown looks different

I've had my Sektor fork to 38mph and they hold up just fine!
This test is simulating a frontal crash... 100,000 times!
Normal riding forces are much less than this test!

will it blend?
