Great posting! So many people out there only know of Judy G. as was in "Wizard of Oz"...or else some "scandalous" stuff from her later years...this is the Good Stuff!!!
@Vengeance509 assuming that is sarcasm, i completely agree with you. no one in this time understands that this is THE best music out there. its good old AMERICA.
@Vengeance509 assuming that is sarcasm, i completely agree with you. no one in this time understands that this is THE best music out there. its good old AMERICA.
@112ALONE But Swing was a worldwide phenomenon! Harry Roy led an orchestra, and he was British. Also it's a bit unnerving to find I'm the same age as her when she recorded this.
@inukirby992 Yes Harry Roy was good. He wasn't a great singer but that's why I like him. He bucked the British trend by imitating American accents and using instrumental solos in his recordings.
This is another winner for sure! One of the best (including orchestra) . . . actually quite historic. Judy at her best here! (Tho I always loved her -- this was when her voice was unbelievable.) Thank You for generously posting this.
Nice voice but no feeling and very rushed. Amazing for a 14 year old but still a novelty. Check out Ella Fitzgerald belting this out for listening pleasure. It will make you dance, sway, love and wonder where we go from here.
@niahartman I love Ella! I'm going to check it out. But could you do me a favor and listen to Judy sing "It's Love I'm After" at 14 years old? It will be then that you will be impressed. Just look it up on youtube.
@niahartman It does seem rushed, but no feeling? I don't think Judy Garland could sing without feeling even if she tried. To me it sounds packed with joy. Certainly makes me feel joyous.
Love it... it is amazing how hard this song is to sing and she sang it when she was 14? CRAZY TALENT. I wish more people nowadays would still appreciate such genius.
Judy was just amazing! This cut now included in my series of music playlists for each of the last 100 years, pop music's evolution over 4 generations.
My channel is your ticket to any past year, escape now . . . . . . . .
I've heard the instrumental version of this song innumerable times, but this is the first time I've heard the lyrics. And it's a hard song to sing, with the word "savoy" so close to the next line each time.
Lovely, brings back memories when I used to listen to Judy on the radio in England. I had this 78 record, it was on the back side of something or other.
Not only the death of her father, but they way the studios treated her. They treated her like a work horse even forcing her to take drugs in order to stay awake, forced to get an abortion (by her own mother of all people), & feeling isolated from the rest of the planet... Her life was pretty fucked. Judy Garland was a treasure & would still be alive if people hadn't mistreated her.
the only problem with judy was that she lost her father when she was 12 years old. her life would have definanlty taked a different route had he not. damn shame. i love judy and always will.
Dei - way cool of you to post this for us Judy admirers. I really like those old pictures of young Judy too. She has the most remarkable voice I've ever heard.
Awesome video! I agree there has never been such a singer since. You would never say that was a 14 year old singing. Brilliant. PLEASE post "Swing Mister Charlie"!
do adore this song~ :)

What a good song to listen to during the depression! Who needs a job when you can listen to this all day.

14?
No pro-tools in the recording studio? No reverb? No nuthin', except a kid and her genuine talent?
Something genuine?
Sorry, I live in America, 2011. I don't understand this concept.
