  • should i like loosen up the grip a bit? or should i grip the as tight as a usual stroke?

  • @tetsu85 I would say tightening would only be useful with this technique, maybe thats just me though. it uses more muscles in your arm rather than in your hand for movement, you'll probably want to keep your hand firm as if fixed to your arm while doing this, thats what worked best for me..

  • @tetsu85 as a drummer i think you should try and do it with a loose grip. more rebound and you dont have to you so much energy.

  • thanks just paying attention to how you where hitting the drum stick i got it with in a few seconds now i just got to get as fast as you thanks for the vid.

  • @metlmulisha that is awesome. have you checked out any of my other videos? I just posted one last week.

  • Awesome! Thank you for show me the technique. Must of took years to perfect it at that speed, but I'll give it a go.... QZ

  • try shaking someones hands like that very fast, how would others react on that huh?:)

  • u should be a one haned drummer

  • gotcha.found it after i did the search. on the Virgil Dan snare is there a video clip on this anywhere so i can here it? Guitar C asking 400's want to heare it first...

any help would be app.. Thanxs

  • do they still sell it, i cant seem to find it , its not in there listings!! the nearest sound that i see that comes close might be the Blade...

  • @ajtoy454 wel the main idea is that it is made of maple, 14 inches wide 6.5 deep and diecast hoops. i would check guitar center to see if you could find something near those specs. and while youre at it, check out the Virgil Daniti snare ;)

  • @Sc0ttPrian

    Hey Scott or anybody,,

Question please, Iam picking this technique up as iam practicing but iam having a problem here, iam hearing the rim more then the blast , ive tryed and watched more then enough vids to lean this, but my rim is loud and drowning out my rhythm, I guess you understand what Iam saying/ any iders please or advise

  • @ajtoy454 im not sure, i NEVER use this unless im joking around and making fun of grindy music, but its a 4 step process. hit the rim but hit the head on the way, then on the way back up hit the head again on the way. its hard to explain, id have to show you in person..

  • @Sc0ttPrian

Hi Scott, thanxs for the reply so quickly, ck this out, if i put a towel on the rim/ it sounds nice/once i remove it the rim sound comes back,,,dammm. I understand ya as i seen your vids/ question !! do i start on the rim first? or head?

In person? i live in bklyn/ you?

  • @ajtoy454 i live near atlanta GA. the first contact is the head, then the stick will just barely it hit the rim, then you bring it back up quickly for the second hit on the head.

  • @Sc0ttPrian

Dam too far for me..hehe/ goycha on the instructions,, i guess I'll have to pract more...

btw,, i bought the mapex panther/panther in gun metal, hot sounding snare bro, lov it, and thanxs for all your help bro/ lov your vids

  • @ajtoy454 that sounds awesome! im interested in how it sounds. and no problem, i REALLY want to post something new, these videos are all old :/ i have grown a lot in many directions not including metal.

  • @Sc0ttPrian

I think you will like the sound in this snare, its on there site, even if there old still geting hits..:) Just hope i can gain back of wht I lost, ive played for about 25yers or so then when I met my girl and got married thats when i packed it in, no room for set in a appartment, now that I own a house, thats when I decided to roll again, just hope the bull stays still so i can ride again..hehe

  • @Sc0ttPrian ,

Scott, can you please tell me wht snare model your using? Mapex/Black Panther/???

  • @ajtoy454 birds eye maple 6.5 deep

  • i always have my snare really low so i can never do this properly, but still good

  • I like how you use text and don't talk. I hate it when people just keep talking.

  • @DrumminD21311 i agree, i also hate talking in my own videos haha

  • why do you keep posting shit?

  • your kit sounds like sex

  • Your bass-drum sounds awesome!

  • from 2:59 EXTREMELY useful. Tnx m8

  • LOL I love the tags.

    Help, Gravity, Kit, Metal, Satan...

  • Nice job! Not really usefull but nice.

What kind off snare are you playing? It's sounds awesome. I can see it's a Mapex Black panther, but then...

  • Yeah its a black panther birds eye maple snare

    Thanks!

  • @Sc0ttPrian Have ths same snare, they sound nice...

  • Awesome sounding kit

  • I Unfortunally can use that blast slowly.

  • Cool Blasts! I loved them.Thanks for sharing! Brainman214

  • u can use your left hand to do the gravity. then your right hand can move around the kit do doubles along with the feet. alot of stuff you can do. combinations with right hand and the feet and still have a fucking fast roll in the background. i cant do it yet though lol.

  • that would be awesome to do! lol i hate the gravity all together though haha i have never used it in a song only at shows, but its nothing that sounds good to me..

  • see all that wanking as paid off

  • Lol paid off for what? this is useless to me anyway.. not to mention the crappy playing.. Haha

  • oh thats the 'PUSH/PULL' technique

  • no. this is the gravity blast lol. push pull doesnt use the rim. similar though...kinda

  • What is your snare called?

    I LOVE IT!

  • Oh nvm :D I found it ^^

  • I think it's a Mapex Black Panther

  • can you do it with the left hand? its easier to play around the kit if you do it with the left hand.

  • lol ya it would be alot easier if i could..

  • lol im a right-hander and i can do the gravity blast faster with the left hand than the right so i can go all around the kit with my right hand lucky i guess^^

  • Lol im right handed too, i only practiced with my right hand for some reason. to me this technique is basically useless haha

  • hahaha have you seen mike johnston's signature snare drum??? hey could you do a video about playing double pedals??? thanks a lot hehehe

  • well im not that great, but i can see what i can do once i get the studio up and running!

  • why are you not using the snare drum provided with the kit you bought?? is it that bad??

  • no, this kit did not come with a snare, and i had already purchased this snare before the kit anyway.

  • awe so that's why... i get it.. i'll try and utilize the snare drum anyway, gonna buy new heads hehe maybe i'll make a video to show you.. well off for now.. thanks for the answers..

  • dude i'm back.. haha i'm from the philippines.. and are those the black panther maple??? 6.5 by 14??

  • Correct! haha

  • awesome vid, your nuts, and it helps... although i still suck at gravityblast.. frankly i still suck at blast beats at all! but awesome vid :P

  • hey man what kind of black panther snare is that?

  • delete ;)

  • nice and SIMPLE. Thanks for this. Nice chops btw

  • dude you use the blast in ways i've never seen before 1:04 dude thats some sick shit keep that up

  • Hi... what kind of batter and reso heads do you use? I've got the same kit.... Love your playing and sound.... And, what are your tom tunings? 10,12, 14, 16 (if that's what you have)... thanks, and peace, George

  • thanks man. for toms, i use ambassadors on bottoms and emperors on tops, for snare, im using hazy snare side and emperor X for batter

i dont tune my toms to any specific notes right now since im not in any band. thanks!

  • i´m the suckest drum player ever :(

  • haha yeahhh rightttt prove it!

  • can´t :( don´t have video camera :(

  • ehh... well i always say were all good in our own ways unless your proven to be... useless. hahah. i see myself as useless or not put to use at least..

  • oooookkkaaayyy. :D

  • nice kit

  • ahhhh nvm i know what it is a gretch renown maple

  • he said that cuz it looks like a joey jordison signature snare idk if it is tho

  • lol nahh

  • i get the up and down thing, but i keep on getting a lot of rim clicking, and how do u avoid that?

  • woah man look whos a fan of slipknot! lol. dude you might want to change that snare head. sounds good, though

    :)

  • oh. id never buy a slipknot anything. drum, head, shirt, cd. Lol

    its black panther NOT slipkuhnot

  • lol good shit huh? you can clearly see the panther logo on the snare, all those slipknot noobs just see a big black snare and cum in their pants hahahah good shit though i spotted that panther right away, nice snare, nice gravity, your set doesnt sound too bad either, gretch catalina?

  • lol. renown

  • This snare is awesome!!! The snare is Panther from Mapex or...???

  • yes it is

  • pretty simple shit

  • is it possible to do scissor beats while doing the gravity blast on the snare? so say you have the snare going, and every offbeat you have the hi-hat. so snare equals 1, hi-hat = and. 1 and 2 and 3 and so forth.

  • thats a cool stick holder do they have them in blue?

  • got any blue spray paint? ;)

haha i dont think they do just because red is a Gibraltar color? idk

  • sticks look abit thrashed there

  • lol yeah. i dont have the cash to keep up with new sticks unless they brake

  • trust me man, you arent the only one.

  • helped alot.i just started and i want to learn to play fast.this gives me something to work on.

  • haha thanks yeah i tried triggers once with bass im not too fond of it, but thanks for the help i was curious cause i play in a metal band, im mainly guitar so drumming ive been working on i dont want to over use them i just wanted to learn how to do them.

  • ohh gotch ya, i just think its stupid.. i have never used it in a song, im also heading twards less double bass as well, and blast beats. its just not solid without something to back it up.

    RATATATATATATATATATA. lol

  • I'm sure this video would have been much more helpful if i didn't stare at your package the whole time

  • i have one question, when i try and do gravity blasts the hits are very faint and quiet what should i be doing so they are hitting louder and loud enough to play with the rest of the kit?

  • that is a good question, head out into a studio and compress it haha. thats how most

"pros" do it. other then that im not sure.. sorry

  • so does that mean i should only use this technique with my kit using mic's? thanks for the reply

  • my opinion besides Yes, its only cool in like solos or something where it wont get drowned out, unless your a cheater/trigger your snare haha.

  • nice work man, iv'e never actually tried this. ill give it a go on my next session, also would you mind telling me how you go about micing up your kit? i want to get some mics but i really dont have the first idea about how to hook it up to a camera/computer. any help would be greatly apprciated! cheers man

  • Well actually, they are 2 separate processes that i matched up afterwards, i have no time code, i recorded the video with my webcam and the audio with my mixer.

  • faaaaaaaaaaaaaaa super velocidad impresionanteee.

  • Wow i can only guess what that means ;)

    thanks! i think.. haha

  • "like shaking someones hand" :D ?

i want to see u shaking someones hand that fast ^^

  • lol its the way to go! haha

    "how are you doin sir?"

    *BZZZZZZ*

    "wtf?"

  • haha the other guy's hand will just be a cinder!

  • how deep is your snare drum?

  • 6.5

  • I'm gonna steal your snare... what is it made up with?

  • its an all maple snare, the outter ply is birds eye maple with a black finish, and black hardware. diecast hoops lugs and throwoff.

  • So you must do it using your fingers, your wrist and your arm all at the same time right??

  • ehh actuall... oh wait nvm, for the gravity blast i guess yeah the fingers just keep the stick firm so it can rebound or whatever, actually no, my wrist doesnt do anything... honestly i dont like gravity blasts lol i can never get anything good to sound out of it

  • al fin !!! ya entedi!!!!!

  • I just got able to do the complete all-out gravity blast...but it completely makes my index finger and thum sore...how do I avoid this?

  • im no professional, but id say if its sore, and not any sharp pains, thats probably a good thing, ur muscles are working, over time the pains should lessen but thats just a guess...

  • keep up the good work! very useful. Nice demonstrations.

  • yo scott , wondering if hand on top of stick is correct cos i can get it but how do i get some more volume as well. do you squeeze the stick or lighty hold it ?

  • honestly i dont really know the answer off the top of my head, i have never used this in a song outside of playing around, never in any recording, its just not loud enough since i dont cheat and trigger. lol

  • Thanks!, It really helps me!but i've a question the stick should always touch the ring of the snare drum?.

    Thanks again, Mariano

  • hmm im not exactly sure what your asking...

the stick does not touch the rim before the "stroke" it goes down hits the drum, then the rim, then the tip lifts up still touching the rim, then you lift the butt end up causing like a teeter totter lmao, then the tip hits the head again and the whole stick is then lifted not touching the drum at all.

  • Thank you very Much! The thing is that i was talking about the rim but i wrote it wrong (as ring)!sorry for my english. Thanks, Mariano

  • yes it did help i have always wondered how to get that blast, and the thing is it looks so easy thanks i will have to try it now.

  • nice snare, bro.

  • how you use your stick when u hit the snare? do u move your other fingers for help?

  • hmm what do you mean

  • i used to think it was a rimshot lol

  • Nice Black Panther snare man. Sounds great.

  • thanks for posting...it was helpful. What is your bio, and where do you live at...not specifically...but what part of the world?

  • i live near Atlanta Georgia, in the US

  • Ty, it helped a lot. And you drum sounds sweeeeeet...

  • agreed highly, man your drums sound incredible!

  • hey dude ur black panther did it comes with the set if not how many did you paid for it??

  • nah i traded my virgil danitti signature snare for it, this one was a little more but i got a deal, the VD snare is Sick by the way

  • okk du you know how it would cost for a black panther like the one u have?

  • yeah its probably around 400, i didnt get mine for the sell price so im not sure what it is.

  • those are some sick beats... what kind of kit is that and sizes?

  • thanks lol, its a gretsch renown 8 10 12 14 22

  • Very helpful, thanks ;-)

  • love your snare bro, nice and crisp. toms too. and your hi hat....yea, i like your kit :P

  • yeah it's pretty highpitched but still powerfull. Like joey jordison snare

  • dang your going to get some splinters in the middle of your stick

  • whaaaa rull with one hand!

  • kit sounds great man. nice tight sound

  • Thank you!

  • sick kit dude keep up the drumming

  • awesome!!! :D this has really helped. and youve got some eman chops man! what band do ya play in?

  • its to bad all your talent is wasted on meatal, id like to hear you do smooth jazz, or normal jazz, anything but metal!

  • lol i dont just play metal, if u want i can make some jazz vides. in fact il do it. i promise

  • look you dumb shit nathan jonas jordison from slipknot grew up playing jazz and for the record almost all succesful metal drummers will tell you have to start out playing slower genres like jazz jazz is one the most difficult styles to play and so is metal, if you play fast music you have to start out playing slow dumbass how do you think ppl get fast retard im sick of all the ppl on youtube like you. u just pick it apart bit by bit like he cares what u think what a loser. metal kiks ass fuck u

  • Fricken killer blasting. How's your left hand? I just... can't with my left. It doesn't want to!

  • Ya know. im the same way haha, it just doesnt work and it embarrasses me to say it but anything else im good with both hands but this just idk. i guess i just never tried working at it cause i never had use for it.

  • This is the best lesson iv seen on Gravity Blast Beats man

    This is awesome

    Keep it up!

Make on on normal blast beats?

That would help greatly for new people

    Cheers

    x

  • This was really really helpfull

Thanks alot for puting this up

Keep posting videos if you can

  • Soon i should be posting more videos, i have been changing some things on the kit!

  • For ONCE somebody explained that there is no rimshot. Thanks!

  • ha yeahhh i could see how theres confusion.

  • awesome!!! cheers

  • Yeah it was helpful in showing the technique. How long did it take you to perfect that?

  • ha idunno, its like stages. when u first start u might not understand it, then u might understand it but cant exactly do it, then maybe u can do it but it doesnt always work right. not sure!

  • nice!

which black panther snare is that?

  • Birds-eye maple outter ply 4.5" X 14" not sure the name does that tell u?

  • Very well explained, thank you

  • Well done man, it's the best tutorial bout gravity blasts, i have ever seen on youtube. Kepp it up!

  • what snare is that?

  • BLACK PANTHER! i just dont like the candy coated hardware, but the drum is great

  • make a video too explain the technique and give some tips for blast beats pleaseeee haha that would be great! (peez)

  • I guess that just requires alot of practice. :)

  • Fuckin sick Scott.
