  • I love the way the verses drip into the choruses with this song.

  • Great song. Thank you Mr. Campbell :)

  • anybody know who that is on bass?

  • Is that the guy from FNM in the back?

  • Perfect

  • There's a guy who doesn't deserve anything bad happening to him. A wonderful voice.Great song.

  • goin to see this wonberfull man next month and i know he,s ill but i know he will be still a LEGEND....Glen ur the Man..x

  • @MyJim2009 went to see him at nottingham royal concert hall last night, The guy was awesome!

  • hes great, today, a legend, without dying, love him today, dont wait,

  • thegoldenzealot i saw him at the sage in Gateshead about 2 years ago i was in the front row and if you get the chance to see him go he is worth every penny fantastic !!!!!!

  • Wonderful Song. Would love to see it in person.

  • Gorgeous song!

  • hes still fantastic....what a player

  • Great version of this song. I miss Glen picking it, but I can't complain much when he sings it so well and his backup band is so solid. I agree with the review at All Music Guide, which said that this song is "so perfectly suited for Campbell's voice it's a wonder that it never popped up on one of his LPs in the early '70s."

  • Dear God he has a beautiful tenor. I'm going to have to track down this whole session. I was so sorry to hear of his struggle with Alzheimer's, like most of the greatest artists he will sadly not be fully appreciated until he is gone. God bless you Mr. Campell and thank you for so many gorgeous songs. They are the soundtrack of my life. You are a genius of the kind that is sorely lacking these days.

  • @NormaCluster your words are beautiful. I feel the same way you do about the wonderful Glen Campbell. It's sad now that he's in the twilight of his life and on his farewell tour and suffering from alzheimers that people are NOW re-discovering him. Love him too death and his songs are alos the soundtrack to my life and I'm so selfish because I don't want to lose him and let him go yet. Beautiful song. I tried to message you but your channel wasn't available to me ;(

  • @NormaCluster very well put....can say no more...

  • @NormaCluster glen campbell did a song with willie nelson the name of it is "levings not the only way to go" i cant find the song on youtube, or on a cd if you could help me find it that would be good. thanks..

  • Bradley below said it all . . . Jackson Browne's song, written at age 16, is also fitting for anyone in their 70's. And Glen, I have nothing but respect and compassion for you. Keep on rockin' while you take medication and watch lifestyle factors so you can slow down the progression of Alzheimer's. Wish I could bring my mama back for a replay the right way, (we'd stop that dirty disease for another 5) but hopefully, she's singing your songs again . . .

  • To all of Glen's detractors out there, let's see if you can sing this good at age 70!

Long live the immortal legend of GLEN TRAVIS CAMPBELL....

  • love jackson this is a nice version of this song...

  • Will this session ever be released on DVD? Can't find any news about it...

  • Please dont confront me with my failures as i have forgotten them. I would also like to add to that i have forgiven myself and so has God. I only had to ask forgiveness in Jesus name. Thats is all we have to do and we are forgiven. How wonderful is that. Love you guys.

  • @guitarsandme "Please don't confront me with my failures, I've not forgotten them ..." is a totally different message than "... as I have forgotten them ...". Imho, people might be forgiven their failures, but forgetting leads to repeating.

  • GREAT JOB COUSIN GLEN

  • your wonderful glen....x

  • It's almost incredible to think that this song was written by Jackson Browne when he was just a kid with so little life experience...any yet, when sung by Glen Campbell, it seems to so accurately, beautifully and painfully describe the reducing effect of ageing on a man who so epitomised strength, optimism, beauty and talent throughout his life...a wonderful and touching performance by a truly great artist

  • @Bradley3604 so tru

  • Righteous, thats about all I can say about that. Bless you Glen.

  • I just heard he has been diagnosed with Alzheimers & I am really sad. This song is a beautiful statement, a fitting summation.

  • Gregg Allman does the best version of this song

  • @bozokarl abso-freakin- lutely !

  • what a great talent god bless you glen

  • I so totally love this song.....God bless Glen...well sung...

  • he sings it nico - not the voice

  • Have tickets to see him in New york April 30th...row 10...should be great

  • Jackson Browne wrote this song when he was 16 yrs old. I've heard him sing it at least 100 times, and I never get tired of it.

  • Dog I thought he passed on a hundred years ago.

  • @1939PlymouthRatRod - his talent is eternal

  • da freuen wir uns ja richtig drüber, daß der liebe Glen, diesen gottgleichen Song vom feinsten vorträgt. Klasse gemacht.

  • Good to see younger talent in the band. Younger kids need this opportunity. Great work Glen!

  • It is great to hear his voice!

  • @ sartainja, I totally agree, the lyrics to this song are perfect..and yes those final lines get me each time for the reasons you explained!!

  • too damn fast

  • So random I dreampt of Glen last night and I think he was singing this song....it was crazy since I have never heard him sing this one before and....have not heard him sing in years.

  • I didn't know Glen had done this song!! I've always been a fan of Glen and he does a great job of this song....but no where near Jackson Browne! Jackson Browne is probably the best song writer of the past several decades... (IMO) and maybe it's to be expected that he'd do his own songs better than anyone else could.

On the other hand....I see several of Glen's songs that the made famous, posted here-and which I always loved since the early days- so I'm off to check them out! :)

  • I am Glen's fan since 1971, as i bought here in Brazil the LP By the Time I get to Phoenix. I follow his carriere all this times, and dont miss nothing about him, and realize that he only grows with aging. Gott helped me to find more this pearl, my God is this beautiful, one of the best!.

  • @MANHATTEN..I didn't notice any range or pitch problems. I heard a professional musician that sang like someone half is age but with the sincerity that comes from someone with all his life experiences..but that's just me

  • I seen Glen in concert with the Ft Worth orchestra a few months ago and he was fantastic!

  • He is the best. Listen to the voice. He sings lover and higher than the most! All the best to him from Norway.

  • Does anyone else see the irony here? Here we have one of the all-time great acoustic players not playing acoustic on a seminal acoustic track? IMO he should have done away with the instrumentation and simply played the six-string while singing - ala an older Johnny Cash cover cd.

The old codger's voice is shot but it's not a bad version overall - he just should have done it when he was capable of hitting notes in the higher register.

  • @MANHATTANBEEFMAN His voice is not shot which is a miracle considering all of the smoke, booze, and cocaine all things known to ravage a singers voice. I heard Glen Campbell recently and his voice was perfect. Just as high, clear, and versatile as it has ever been. If his voice is shot as you say, I want to get me one of those old worn out voices that nobody wants to hear. Not to mention that there are damned few in this world that can touch Mr. Campbell's guitar work - He IS the best!

  • @dennyandpennie

I agree with you regarding his guitar playing - but his voice is no where near it's peak quality.

Perhaps you were mildly intoxicated at his recent performance.

  • @MANHATTANBEEFMAN Even McCartney's voice isn't quite as good as it once was. Age will do that. Also, there are other variables. I played in a band on the road for years and I sang the highest background parts. Bars in those days allowed smoking and being extremely allergic to cigarette smoke often times my vocal chords would get swollen and pitches that were ordinarily easy for me to make would become a difficult reach. I think we need to give Campbell a break and appreciate his many talents !

  • I'd never seen or heard this track before- now I can't get it out of my head ! The lyrics are perfect for those of us of a certain age. What a brilliant song. Thanks for putting this up .

  • God Bless you Mr. Campbell....we love you !

  • Goddam near perfection... Always loved Mr Campbell stuff, superb singer.

  • Glad to see Glen is including the younger generation in this. We need to include them and teach them so they can carry on the torch........

  • "Please don't 'Comfort' me w/ my Failures" was likely a goof, but it works.

  • @guitawrizt - nope, it is how Jackson Brown wrote the song...and it does work....very powerful when sung by Glen.....the whole song is powerful when i listen to it....every time...

  • @ghampton106 I believe that Jackson's lyric is actually "Please don't CONFRONT me (not comfort me) with my failures. I am a huge fan of Jackson Browne's and can sing any of his songs in our band without the help of a lyric sheet. Been to almost all of his concerts locally. He is absolutely incredible when you think that he was a teenager when he wrote many of his songs. Less renown but of almost equal talent is Tim Moore. Check him out on YouTube.

  • @dennyandpennie I know what you mean, the most important line in the song, and he blows it. That one line is the reason I learned this song. How in the world do you confort anyone with a failure?

  • @fitman10 jackson wrote several versions

  • sounding more like willie nelson these days ;D

  • @eamonosu - Glen could out play and out sing Willie back in the day, and still today...not even a comparison...

  • FANTASTIC!! THANKS FOR PUTTING THIS AMAZING FOOTAGE ON YOUTUBE FOR US ALL TO HEAR AND SEE. EDUCATION FOR US ALL I WOULD SAY FORM THE GENIUS GLEN. *****

  • fabulous version and the album is fantastic. deserves way more exposure than it's had..

  • Gregg Allman has a great version of this too..

  • something about this version I keep coming back to...maybe its knowing that GC has had some personal problems...yet he sings it with a small smile

  • Who is the youg kid playing the acoustic guitar? He really is smooth!

  • Harrybatty, I disagree. I am neither a huge Glenn Campbell fan, nor a big Jackson Brown fan, but I like them both. This particular version of "These Days", though, is superior to any I've heard, and I've heard a lot of them. And coming from GC, after so many years of being out of the limelight, is just very special. Love it.

  • Who are you talking about? Glen Campbell and Jackson Browne are very much alive?

  • superb

  • I wonder how old he was when he recorded this? His voice is still flawless, it's incredible!

  • this says everything............... brilliant performerxxx thank you for manchester so glad to have shared xx

  • listen to Jackson Browne's original, although i have much respect for Glen Campbell this is not even fit to pick up the crumbs under Jackson's table.

  • Glen, I saw you in concert a while bck and you DID NOT sing this song. I think it should be a standard for you in concert. It is truly one of your best.

    Thanks

  • Bobby Caldwell once said that as time goes by, one tends to lay the guitar aside

and let it flow through. Gives time to reflect and rest. Let these other dudes do their job. Listen closely and see if you can find Vince Gill here. No...I am not refering to

the singing. Just the medlies. That highway road kinda singing.

  • Simply brilliant.

  • im 50 years old, but you are always popping up in my ears...you are the sound I hear on the the line....

here in tokyo......just living and getting my son on his way.....Glen, you know that my roots are from arkansas too, love you sir!

  • glenn...wow...you still look good!! and of course the singing is wonderful...one of y our fans for yrs... bonnie

  • A softer gentler version of a classic song, but, all credit to GC he does it great credit apart from the line ' ...Comfort me with my failures' instead of Jacksons '... Confront me with my failures' I... had not forgotten them.

  • Glen Campbell is one of the great performers.

    Smooth silky amusing.Just brilliant.

  • Love GC, but...no guitar? Cheesy keyboards? A bunch of horrible sounding guitars? Wtf. Pick up a guitar Glen, if you want keys get a B3. You're too good for this cheese and so is the song.

  • I listened to Glen in the '60s. He's hanging in there - good on him! I love his version of "Have yourself a merry little Christmas".

  • Amazing how much DEPTH is in songs by people like Jackson Browne than in a normal country song.

Today's country has really taken a dive since guys like J Cash were writing the songs.

  • JB would cringe if ever saw this... small note about this song..Jackson wrote this song when he was 16

  • JB would cringe if ever saw this... small note about this song..Jackson wrote this song when he was 16

  • on his album he's even got the stringed quartet!

  • Glen is not doing it in his style, listen to Nico's version, it is HER version!!!

  • Don Williams a guitar genius????

    WTF!

You must know a different Don W than me!

And he wrote very few of his big hits!

Love Don and Neil..but they are so different than Glen..and they would NOT be able to carry his case..NOT that it makes any difference!

    But get your facts straight...DUDE

  • Just good to see him still doing what he does best, wonderful voice from a kinder time in music

  • elvis load of sh*t

you talk a load of it

  • If you're on the far side of life you can really be touched by this version. It's not about rating artists or keeping score - it's about what they bring to a song and how it resonates for each listener.

My mom wasn't the greatest singer in the world but what I'd give to hear her do one of her old favorites as she walked around the house on a weekend, cleaning and straightening and cooking. The other five days she was up at the crack of dawn and heading off to a factory job. And singing...

  • @pyannaguy: Yours is one of the most intelligent comments I've read for a musical video on YouTube.

  • Thank You for your kind words, w9j15g! May I call you w9? :-)

What a pleasant, welcome thing to hear as I checked email before calling it a night! Here's to heartfelt music!

    Thanks again, and best wishes

  • Yes, you may.

  • Glen Campbell is so GOOD he can do whatever he wants.

He is one of the greatest EVER..player/singer/writer/performer....MIND -BOGGLING!

I would never say he is better than!

But WHO is better than Glen Campbell!

At any age..but throw in his age (and life style).

and he blows them all away

    IMHO

  • @thompsonlake Neil Diamond-Most succesful musician of all time , Don Williams , one of the best voices ever , most succesful western sort of musician ever , wrote amazing songs and was a guitar genius , there are a lot of people better than Glen Campbell , hes good but in my opinion he destroyed this song

  • @thompsonlake Billy COnnolly playng the guitar haha , looks like him

  • Glad to see Glenn still singing. He is a great performer and artist. Grew up listening to his songs.

  • I thought Glen Campbell covered the song written by Jackson Browne quite beautifully. I actually like this version as to Mr. Browne.

  • I love this voice =)

  • Elegant version. I agree with sartainja about the poignant lyrics - they really come up and bite.

  • Phil Ochs, Nico...so many have done this song. G. Campbell does it well, I think.

  • Just a lovely song. Getting a lot of airplay on Radio 2 which brought me back to it! Nice!

  • The line "Please Don't Confront Me With My Failures, I Have Not Forgotten Them" is probably one of great verses in any song of all time. It hits the nail on the head for so many of us when we think about some of the failures in our lifes.

  • I agree, very good line from a very good writer (Browne), and like most people, we don't like to be reminded of them.

  • @sartainja Amen

  • @sartainja Agreed! and to think that Jackson was only 16 when he wrote this song is nothing less than mind boggling.

  • @sartainja I 2rd that...

  • @sartainja

Well stated and thank you for bringing attention to the profound impact those words have.

  • Good cover, but nothing beats Jackson Browne. He sings it with all the feeling that is meant for the song that wrote. So much feeling in J.B.'s version.

  • I was a kid when he was popular, remember him on our" Caprice "Station Wagon radio. After watching "The Smothers Brothers" video of him singing "Wichita Lineman" then watching this` video, It's hard seeing these young robust people age....but at least you know that's all Glen, and that's good enough for me!Glad I revisited him, again

  • great cover of a great song.

  • Greg Allman does this song too...the last line "Don't confront me with my failure"...is poignant...not melancholy.

Thanks for putting this up. John

  • @IntuitiveJohn Please, the lyric is FAILURES not failure. When quoting a songwriter as uniquely gifted as J.B. (and you wont find one in the so-called "music" of today), we owe it to him to get the lyrics right. Pennie is asleep now so I think I'll be signing off. She is so pretty-her China white skin, pale blue eyes, dirty blond hair so oily and straight and cut just below her ear lobes with bangs. Her cute skinny legs, tiny feet and breasts (30AA) Love IS real and all with no make up at all.

  • For those who may not know- Glen is singing the Nico version of this song, from 1967. I love this version, Glen does a fantastic job. But give a listen to Nico's- I think it's pretty special as well.

  • the changes in the lyrics makes it so apt for this man and very poingent

  • Absolutely fantastic. Someone below mentioned Jackson Browne being upset. I guarantee you he is honored. I like Glen better holding a guitar but this performance is stunning and amazing.

  • the man is a living ledgend,

  • well done glen cream always comes to the top. good music is good music no matter what your age or the musics age for that matter.

  • excellent video, thx for posting

  • Give the guy a break. It sounds damn good to me for a guy that is 73.

  • oh dear he just ruined this song for me

  • i respect your opinion, but im afraid that you're going to have to back up that statement. i mean, that's a pretty bold thing to say, so what makes you say that?

  • unreal..so GREAT..for so long.....

    he plays,he sings he writes.....

he hung with jimi and eric..and tanya tucker ..that almost did him in........

  • Magnificent!

  • Che meravigliosa cover

  • Love it !

  • I can't believe I've never heard of this song, or him. What a great artist. I'm glad I've found this song more sooner than later. It's a timeless song. I know that when listening to it, I'll be a happy person if in a bad mood, or at least in a better mood when in a happy mood.

    Thanks Glen Campbell

Wish my dad was around so I could show him this song. RIP

  • Glen, one of the best singers in pop history,,great songs!!..thanks

  • Great job Glen!

  • Gone but not forgotten. Certainly a great singer! Your memory will live on!

  • Neither Glen Campbell nor Jackson Browne is dead.

  • @nmoo07 Thank god i got worried there for a bit..

  • @nmoo07 Indeed. He's still gigging!

  • @nmoo07 ya whats up with that.

  • @nmoo07 that's what happens when someone misspells his holiness obama's name...

  • @nmoo07

    Canadian maybe?

  • haha Good ole Glen

  • Gone on vacation maybe (he plays a lot of golf).

  • @oboma8 hahahahahahahahaha genius

  • @oboma8 Also, in other news - not gone.

  • Hope i'm this cool when i"m this old

  • Fine version of a great song.

  • I prefer this and Greg Allman's version to Browne's.He's a good songwriter, but it takes an interpreter like Glen,to make this a GREAT song...

  • I like it, I have a song he did by Tom Petty and also 1 he did by greenday both are very good. I love JB and understand what GHT26855 is talking about but look at it this way ,its a Jackson song and its being played which means more people are hearing and loving JB's music! Of course no one does it as well as he does!

  • "Of course no one does it as well as he does!"

    ......or even close.

Changing the lyric from the JB original to GC's own interpretation is worth a note, but the arrangement and delivery is simply too bouncy.... and in no way does this make it 'great'.

I do not want to set-up a JB/GC comparison, they are both so talented but I just do no believe this version.

  • I really like this version.. but I know what you're saying.. The version that I fell in love with is Nico's.. there's something about the tragedy of her voice.. That was 1967!! I can't believe Jackson Browne wrote it at 16.. a true master..

  • What a GREAT version!

    Miss Mr Dave's slide solo...

    But I LOVE Glen....

One of the GREATEST musicians to ever walk on the earth...?

Read Merle Haggards book if you don't think so.......?

  • Why did he do this? Good question...

  • I cry everytime I watch this....it's therapudic.

  • Of course Jackson Browne is widely appreciated, there is no need to understand anything. What does that have to do with Glen Campbell doing a version of his song? Soulless and trivial?- sorry I don't agree at all. To me this is probably one of the most soulful and relevant recordings that Glen has made.

  • This is a cheap copy of JB's song. I do like GC but this is a big mistake. Sorry if I upset the GC fans here but this is soulless and trivial.

I cannot understand why JB is not even more widely appreciated.

Just listen to any version of Jackson Browne singing this to convince you otherwise.

  • Great version of Jackson's song. Many people have covered it over the years which is the mark of a great song.

  • This is an incredible version! I usually hate covers but this is bloody brilliant!

  • Wow- brilliant version of a classic song- the reworking of the lyrics poignantly deal with the tough times that Glen has faced. But its ultimately a song of hope, and redemption.

  • A nearby charity thrift store is run by friendly, elderly ladies who seem to have a good time with it, chatting, laughing, playing tunes on the in-store sound system. I recently offered to lend them Glen's latest CD and they happily accepted. When I returned for it a couple of weeks later, they all said they--and their customers--really enjoyed it. And they were effusive in their appreciation of it, probably not having a clue that Glen didn't write the songs and certainly not having a care.

  • This song is as relevant to Glen Campbell as it does to Jackson Browne. Just because a person wrote a song, doesn't mean it applies only to him. If it did music wouldn't be the universal language. I can identify with this song.

  • this version is not horrible. I think YOU are horrible

  • I have only heard a little of Jackson Browne's version. But Glen does this song better than Jackson Browne. He sings it will sincereity, soul and passion as always. He makes any song he sings better than someone else's version.

  • nobody sings it with more sould feeling and passion than Jackson browne because the song is about his life and the problems he had when he was 16 so dinnae gees any ae yer pish!

  • I agree with SNOOOOOO8

    Great song sang well

  • Too fast.

  • jenovalmproved....knows nothing about music....he is the loser....not knowing that glen cambell is an excellent guitarist, bano player,piano,accordion,etc..one of the best all around musicians in the world...and a great warm voice! go away you jerk
