SEE THE NEW POLICE STATE VEHICLES HAVE ARRIVED FOR MORE REVENUE COLLECTING BY GUN POINT AND SUPPRESSION OF CITIZENS! BIG WASTE OF MONEY ,ALL COPS NEED IS BASIC TOYOTA COROLLA OR A PICKUP TRUCK WITH TOOLS IN THE BACK TO ACTUALLY HELP PEOPLE!!!
@evanthemack thats not what they said in a video i watched and plus the taurus that the police down here have has a 5.4L v8 that pumps out just over 420 horse power.
@USAirwaysrocks the ford has more horsepower. in the ford 2012 5.0L police intercepter has over 400 horsepower and the chevy has just over 300 and thiers is a 6.0L v8
The new Taurus based Interceptor will quickly gain cops back to Ford's side. 3.5 Twin EcoBoost Turbo V6 puts out the quickness they need to outrun who ever they need to, but not with the gas guzzling that the Crown Vic, Charger, and Caprice have plagued them with. Also, the suicide doors, if they actually keep that part to concept, will make it easier to get handcuffed people in and out with them claiming police brutality for bangin their head
These cars aint bad...its just that i dont like them.
They're not "tactical" looking enough. They're purpose built..yea - but man, they just look so..bland, nothing special. atleast the crown vic had history.
I wish they would of came out with tactical SUVs and Tactical patrol sedans.. instead they come out with family sedans and family midsize suvs. Man - police Tahoes arent purpose built but look more tactical and function like a real police car (RWD) Ford had a chance to make something here
I find it interesting that the weapons in the holder behind the center console are shotguns and not rifles. Rifles are designed to kill large game at a significant distance, but shotguns are only effective at a distance to maim and disfigure. Not a reflection on Ford by any means, but it is something I have wondered about.
@rorybz shotguns work better against vehicles. Also, after considering the FBI's data, which shows that most shootings take place within 10 feet, and that a 12 gauge shotgun with 00 buck is effecting out to 30 yds, I can't think of a better all around weapon.
Thank god for Chevy to save the day. It took awhile, but we are back so move aside. If not we will suck you through or radiator and spit you out the tail pipes.
@MrJeffnow Are you delusional? Give me just one area that Chevy has Ford beaten. Ford is on top of the world right now in every aspect and its not going to change for a long time.
@jayhoyt28 Well Ford is doing somewhat better. When GM hired the idiot from samsonite to run things pay offs personal and retirees etc. My chevy police car (though a bit ago) was faster, turned better and just looked better. I have been waiting for some one to comment. I was just causing trouble. Don't get all hurt. Off to my Datsun.
Although I'm not a huge fan of the Taurus, the Interceptor SUV is quite impressive. It looks quite capable for rugged performance, and the lighting setup shown here is perfect from most angles.
Great... a huge, heavy utility with a V6 and a lightbar on it. That'll catch the bad guys and besides who likes fwd anyway? Cudos to Chevy with the Tahoe PPV (utility, RWD, and a proven V8) and the new Caprice ( also RWD and the proven 6.0 V8 monster) I dont dislike Ford but they are making a mistake getting rid of the the ultimate cruiser. Crown Vic, you will be missed. And who here belives that the turbo will hold up under all that constant driving? Only time will tell.
@jshepherd28 I agree that FWD is probably a bad idea, but one thing you need to keep in mind is that many municipalities have a tough time eating the fuel bill for cruisers with V8's and RWD, especially SUVs like the Tahoe. I live in St. Louis County, MO and the county police here usealmost entirely Impalas due to the fact that few cases call for high-speed responses past about 90mph, and that they are significantly easier on gas. As far as cruisers with turbos, all I can say is "good luck".
@10khampton0728 I cant agree more. In big cities like St Louis, there is no need for huge V8s, but I live in McComb MS and our Sheriffs dept has alot of wide open roads and usually each deputy is about 10 miles from every call so they usually are wide open all day. They spend alot of time driving code to calls, and there are alot of off road driving through woods to get to the injured so tahoe just make sense around here.
@jshepherd28 That makes sense, with the terrain and the need to floor it scene to scene. How big is the county's budget? With higher population/requirements they can afford larger vehicles and, inversely, fuel.
@10khampton0728 I think it runs somewhere around 3 million... and with the county being fair size we got tahoes.. They have been doing extremely well and the deputies have noticed better driver awareness when they are driving code. I guess its the higher profile of the tahoe? We are also seeing gas mileage that was as good as the Vics.
@jshepherd28 Yeah I would venture to say the added height of the Tahoes raises awareness b/c the lights are higher as well. I imagine the new Tahoes would do decent on fuel, due to the fact that they have that cylinder shutoff feature. That saves gas on idles, stoplights, and on traffic stops.
@10khampton0728 Going back to the Ford's turbo, I found out why they limited them to 131MPH while they are capable of so much more.A turbo'ed engine has slightly better thermal efficiency than a normally aspirated engine, since heat in the exhaust is tapped to reduce pumping losses on the intake side. However, equal horsepower takes more or less equal fuel and air and for the most part it burns as much fuel as the GM/Ford/Dodge v8s.
@10khampton0728 A lot of the excess heat goes out the exhaust, but a lot of the heat not converted to torque is left to be adsorbed by the coolant and oil.The ecoboost has a big radiator too right? True, but the issue is that heat leaving the combustion chamber through the head and piston has less area to escape through, having 6 small pistons compared to 8 large ones.
@10khampton0728 So in the turbo v6, the oil and coolant also are absorbed at the turbo bearings, but there is no way the small engine can shed as much heat through it's piston and combustion chamber as the equivalent to the V8s
@jshepherd28 Interresting... the performance long term amongst these new fleet vehicles should be quite interesting. Maintenance for a turbo could be pricey should one fail. But I'm glad to see that at least fuel economy and (roughly) equivelant performance will not be issues.
just sayin ive had the car for 10 years and it has never overheated, stalled, or any engine trouble for that matter it really is the best car ive ever bought
Given the choice of FWD Tar-Ass, FWD Flexplorer, RWD V-8 powered Chevy Caprice, or RWD V-8 powered Dodge Charger, I'd take either the Caprice or Charger. And I've got a pretty good feeling most PD's will too. From what I understand, most PD's don't use FWD cars for much more than urban patrols while the more durable, better handling RWD vehicles are used for real police work. I don't think that will change. And Ford is about to lose it's controlling share of the Police patrol car market.
@bradwibbs18 No. It won't. The Tar-Ass Interceptor has a 3.7L DOHC V-6 in either normally aspirated or twin-turbo "Ecoboost" form. There will be no V-8 in the Tar-Ass. I have no idea where you could have possibly gotten that idea from. If you have a source, please link it. Thanks.
@bradwibbs18 Just because I don't like it. Same reason I call the new Explorer the "Flexplorer". If it's FWD, I don't like it. I'm a RWD kind of guy. I've driven FWD cars. And that's precicesely why I don't like them. I prefer the vastly superior ride and handling of Rear-Drive over FWD. I'm old school like that. I've never owned a FWD vehicle and I never will. And I've never been stuck in the snow either. But I have pulled a Honda Pilot out of a ditch with my '94 4x4 Explorer, though. :)
@MrMustang210 The AWD system the Flexplorer and Tar-Ass use is not a full-time AWD system. It is a HALDEX-type system that is primarily FWD under all but the most severe driving conditions. The rear wheels only engage when the computer senses front wheel slip. Therefore, they are FWD for all intents and purposes.
