The Van Allen radiation belt is the reason humans haven't been to the moon yet, and probably won't be unless some really well radiation-shielded spacecraft are built. Check the Van Allen belt on wiki or maybe even in a proper encyclopedia... also, see human survivability in radioactive conditions, may help your understanding of it
