  • my IT teacher told our class about RTFM yesterday but she said "read the fracking manual" lol

  • I really don't think that it stands for "read the FULL manual" lmao.

  • @WraithBigPappa On THIS channel it DOES! LOL!

  • when doing pacman -Sy yaourt after doing nano /etc/pacman.conf i get warning: database file for 'archlinuxfr does not exist

  • @edwardd06 you need to add archlinuxfr to pacman.conf if you search for yaourt in the archwiki you will see the link on that page pointing you to instructions on adding that line.

  • @LinuxSpatry i added [archlinuxfr] like you did and the other line at the end and get the error, i control x and saved it and followed your instructions on the video as you did them

  • @edwardd06 without knowing what the specific problem is I did a google search without quotes "warning: database file for 'archlinuxfr does not exist" and found lots of answers. Not sure which one to pick...

  • Excellent demo as ever many thanks will you be doing one on changing the desktop to say gnome theme or something like that cheers

  • @Bladerunner4511 Yes. I will be adding new desktops to the BASE install of Archbang!

  • Good info! I would have given up without the tips and tweaks!

  • @ralph1bart Glad you enjoy the show!

  • Hey, I love your videos, I'm a Arch Linux user, but I've never get into customize my XFCE, can you say me wich themes and panels are you using ? Because that looks very good.

    Thanks !

  • @bellicjr I am using AWN as my panel using the LUCINDO style. I then customized it to a dark appearance. The my window manager uses a them called "Blappleness" which can be obtained from the gnome-look website.

  • More than the Ubuntu Software repository/software center? That's Amazing!

  • @Krothie Oh yes... There isn't anything that I have not been able to find... The Arch repositories and the AUR have just about everything you could want! The selection is huge but you have to know what you want because there are no photos or reviews of the packages...

  • thanks for the tutorial ... btw .... i use 'leafpad' instead of nano .... its much better ...for me :)

  • @MunzirSuliman Yes... Leafpad is a good choice... You will see me using it from time to time in these tutorials.

  • Show us how to enable compiz and effects.

  • @davorsite I am working on that episode now and it should be online within 12 hours....

  • @LinuxSpatry Ok, thank you.

  • @davorsite Glad to be of service!

  • Great tutorial :D keep it up spat

  • any idea how to get rid of the extra network icon in the panel?

  • @thurstonxander I could not figure that one out either... I replaced TINT2 with Avant-Window-Navigator (which is what I wanted in the first place) and that solved my problem...

  • @thurstonxander I managed to find a solution on the ArchBang forum that said to comment the line "(sleep 3 && /usr/bin/nm-applet --sm-disable) &" in the autostart file (Preferences -> OpenBox config -> Edit autostart). I did this and it worked for me. Search the ArchBang forum for "double network manager" to find the post.

  • @TheWorldsAddress I demonstrate that in the video I am building now... Thanks for sharing this...

  • Looking good! Now, all I have to do is to figure out what I actually did, and get hip on the terminology by RTFM. By the way - We all know that F doesn't stand for "Full". LMAO!!!

  • @brobriobri The "F" stands for FUNNY! Yea... That is what it means!!!

  • Is there anything we subscribers can do to help you with your sponsorship goal? You give the most comprehensive tutorials that I've seen and would love to help.

  • @WraithBigPappa Thanks for the compliment! You can always visit my blog and shout me a coffee (I have a Paypal Donate button there).

  • So how to remove the ArchBang brand and convert it into Arch Linux? I'm still confused..

  • @rayyanputra ArchBang is Arch Linux with X and a pre-selected set of programs. As its still Arch Linux you can do anything you want with it.

  • I love this series..but everything wont work on me..

I tried to install Arch Linux, the mirrors always failed to download and sync..

I tried to install ArchBang, but failed on 'Install system'..ahhh..I hope I can embrace the power of Arch soon... =(

  • Great work! Look forward to the compiz and awn video. Could you also do a cardapio install too please?

  • what is your favourite linux?

  • @TheAnu098 Pinguy OS 11.04 is my favorite beginner distro and I am really Liking ARCH.... A LOT!

  • Nice video Spatry! although keep in mind that slim development has ceased up. But other wise great video and keep those arch tutorials coming!

  • @Lyxer01 YES Slim development has ceased, it would be nice if someone were to pick up that project...

  • @LinuxSpatry

Yea it would be awesome if someone started the project back up. Although there are alternative Display Managers like WDM, Qingy, CDM, and some other various obscure ones.

  • For a decent terminal use terminator, it's nothing short of brilliant.

  • So will you be continuing this series in the near future? ( next day or two ) or later on??

  • @pfindan I had a crazy day, so I am gonna take a nap and then make another episode for it later.... i had a request to do compiz as a standalone so I will demonstrate how to do that

I will also be doing remastersys for my ubuntu fans this week...

  • I've been tempted to change to Arch for a while. This temptation is now over. I know there are many benefits to Arch however it's simply too primitive. It's like building your own car from a kit. Anything that requires command line should be considered a failure of usability. I can see you love a challenge but you look very stressed, even your perfect hair has command line fatigue.

  • @charliemoss I LOVE YOUR COMMENT! The beauty of it is that once you have everything set to your liking, you will not have to mess with config files often. Everyone says I need a haircut, but I feel like growing it long again!

  • "Full" manual. LOL. The same way SNAFU means...

    yaourt is yogurt in French.

  • @eldersprig Did you think I would say something else? LOL!

  • Read the full manual, read the fine manual, hahaha. We all know what it really means...

  • @dodo3773 I know what it really means too but you will not see that kinda language here... ((Snicker))

  • @LinuxSpatry Hehe. Yeah, I think I have been around too long hahaha

  • @dodo3773 Meeee TOOOOOOO!!!!! Can anyone say MIDLIFE CRISIS???

  • @LinuxSpatry No no. Your not that old spats - get it together.

  • hope this is the final video of arch series..

  • @TheAnu098 There will be more, this video concludes the BASE install.

  • Thank you spatry! Watching this video made realize I was a bonehead, couldn't install wine because I forgot to remove the # from [multilib]. Now it's done and I'm running on all cylinders. keep up the good work. I accidently got around the pacman 4 pgp issues by playing around with the configs and fixed the errors I was getting. Not being able to copy/paste in the default xterm is a bummer. Can't wait for the next video.

  • @Phanbot01 I will cover installing Wine and Vineyard (from the AUR) later in this series. First I will need to install some other goodies...

  • I see that ArchBang uses other non official Arch repos. Yaourt and package-query are only found on the AUR on normal Arch.

  • I am using Avant-Window-Navigator. I will cover that part when I am ready to demonstrate the use of Compiz as a standalone Window Manager... If I have time, I will start that video tonight...

  • @Spatry what panel are you using with openbox ? thanks

  • @351sergio Thanks! More coming up soon!!!

  • you can copy and paste with rxvt-unicode (urxvt). ctrl+shift+c to copy and mouse middle button to paste. you can also install some clipboard management tool and use it with urxvt.

btw have you ever tried vim? it's a lightweight cli text editor and much better than nano when you learn to use it. there should be a wiki article about it in arch wiki... you should check it out :P

  • @nw0n VIM has been suggested and I will eventually learn how to use it... Once I get a chance to learn how to use VIM I will make a video on it... It seems that is the best way for me to retain knowledge is to share what I have learned with the community.

  • @nw0n BY THE WAY.... Thanks for the tip on copy/paste in urxvt!
