Lightworks: Importing Media (Part 2)

Thanks for the response. I'm pretty sure you're right on the money guessing my problems are with computing power, the one I'm currently using is lacking. Although when I transcode at import, everything works great. And I've read over and over, how people have problems with .mov and the suggestion is always, "transcode to MPEG-I HD." You're only of the only people I've run into that doesn't seem to have problems working directly with .mov files.

@brentmarley That's interesting. I hadn't realized it was such a big problem for people. Just as a reference, the computer I use in these videos has 8GB DDR3 RAM, Overclocked Core i5 750, and Geforce 9800GTX

New to lightworks, one question (hope you can get to it): I've read alot about needing to converting your .mov files before importing in order to edit smoothly, but I notice you do not convert, and don't seem to have any problem with playback. Is that just a matter of RAM and processor, or do you have any particular settings for that? My .mov files play back very choppy, and would love to not have to convert every file. Thanks!

@brentmarley It is probably a case of computer power (graphics card, ram, processor, hard drive, etc). There aren't really any settings to change around, but I will look into whether or not LW allows for proxies like Premiere and Vegas

My Lightbox Import screen looks nothing like your. It can't or won't import mpg files, either. Is yours the free version?

i can´t import videos only jpg files. why ??? don´t get it...i have the video files on the same place as jpg pictures...tho the videos do not appear when i try to import

when i click start for it to import it says "Unable to start-there are no material drives attached to the system" also how do you do the record thing with a webcam?

Is there a limit to how big an imported file can be? I have a 1080p video that's over 200 Mb... Or is there another reason that I can't import the file? Thank you!

@aquaadragon no file size limit. Download the codec pack from Editshare.

@dvstudiosproductions It's been downloaded this whole time. It still says 'unable to import'. The first import screen that opens gives the name of the file, but is says the content and frame rate are unknown in red letters.

@aquaadragon make sure your project settings match the video files you are using (ie. frame rate, resolution, etc)

@dvstudiosproductions Ok, now the settings are the exact same as the video I'm trying to import. It lets me import it, but the video is just a green rectangle. It's the same length as the original video, though.

I just downloaded Lightworks, and I want to import files via the second way you talked about. However, it says, in destination, there are "NO DRIVES," written in red. I can't figure out what to select so it will work. Can you help me?

@alexpet25 hmm, that's a new one. I'll look into it. Have you tried selecting something from your desktop? Also, which OS are you using and is it the most recent LW build?

@dvstudiosproductions I have. Well I'm going off my C drive, for a PC, where all my files, videos, etc. are. And as far as the most LW build, I'm not familiar with. I'm an Avid guy. I don't own it myself, but to practice at home, my friend told me about Lightworks.

I am sorry for posting another one of those questions, but I am having the problem, that I wanna import a frapsd Video converted to the H.264 codec, which is marked as being compatible. The Video is 1280 x 720 and 30fps. It imports the file fine, but I can't play it nor edit it or do anything else with it. All the data about it is shown right, the length, the bitrate,everything, but the video itself is only shown as a green box. QT is up-to-date. I would appreciate help and thank you in advance.

I'm trying to make a video using various youtube videos and when I import the videos on lightworks the frame rate is always 29.97 and I can't adjust my video's settings to be 29.97 making it impossible for me to run the imported videos. How can i fix this?

This part looks clear. Thanks. The qiuestion is - does Lightworks have a feature that helps splitting imported files into scenes (separate clips)? The problem is that imported file usually has multiple scenes and it is hard to scroll to particular one each time I need it. With splitting by scene each detected clip obviously has its own thumbnail. I am used to Ulead Media Studio where this feature is a great helper.

@dlozovoy Okay, I'm really not sure because I do not own an HDV Camera or a MiniDV one. I assume that this feature is included as it is in programs like Vegas and Premiere (I think). I'm really not sure though, because, I was not able to capture media using Lightworks. I used the T2i which is just MOV files on the hard drive. But, I suppose you could use Media Studio to split the clips and import those from that file directory.

@dlozovoy Which was a process we used with a Mac and FCP (captured the media from the GL2) and then used those files in incriments on my PC with AE and Vision Lab.

@dvstudiosproductions Thanks for quick reply. This feature would not necessarily belong to live importing from camcorder. It is sort of analysing (based on various things like next frame similarity) which performed on previously imported file. I thought Lightworks must have it.

Help! Me! pleaaaase!? I cannot import ALL the clips that i want to. They are all in the same MP4/Quicktime format & some won't import.I get an "error this clip cannot be imported because the frames do not fit for this project" type of message that appears after it rejects the clip. How do i fix this? I would think that the clips need to be the same 30fps or 60fsp but i want both types of clips in ONE video. How do I do that? Do I need the 30fps clips in one "room"& then TRY to combine the rooms?

@ElyssaBellaBeth Hmm, it *should* be able to handle multiple frame rates on the timeline, but I haven't tried it yet. Perhaps this evening I can give it a go and get back to you. In the meantime, try switching between rooms and let me know if it works that way.

@dvstudiosproductions (ack! ran out of space) & how/can you pan across/up/down a video clip? i can't seem to find these features b/c i just got this program, i was using final cut, vegas, and WindowsLive MM in trial version 1 more question,the program crashes on me randomly i don't know if its my comp or b/c its a beta? but what if it crashes while i'm rendering or while i'm formatting or uploading?will I lose all of my work!!?? or does it save my original finished video? so that i can try again

the program is a bit buggy b/c its a release candidate. it does autosave all the time, so you should be able to resume editing or retry rendering.

okay so i installed the codec pack and it didnt work but then i installed quicktime and changed it do the default program and now it will let me import the video! thank you so much for your help!

hey when i try to import my 7d footage it says codec unsupported. i dont know what the deal is. any ideas?

@noahrollei did you install the codec pack from Editshare? If so, and the problem persists, try instyalling the latest version of Quicktime, which is required for the .mov file type. Also, I had issues with the apple crapware and had to revert to QT 7.5.5 in order for Vegas to work with the T2i/5D footage, so perhaps something similar is going on?

I've recently gotten an error that tells me lightworks can't locate a driver. Because of that, it doesn't allow me to import anything. Any tips? Should I just re-install it? Anyone else running into this problem?
