I certainly defer to your undoubted expertise Mr Lopez. All I have to go by are the credits on the DVD which may have given more credit than warranted to Nureyev, as he was certainly very ill at that time. This Production was first performed in 1992 and the DVD was taken from a 1994 performance. Choreography and Staging Rudolf Nueyev after Marius Petipa
Restaged by Ninel Kurgapkina, Patrice Bart, Patricia Ruanne, Aleth Francillon
Wow! those costumes are gorgeous. Especially hers, I've been watching alot of ballet videos lately, and this was a refreshing change from pastels and black.
Yes I agree with you, the colors are brilliant as with the staging in the first part of this ballet. The India type costumes of the male dancers are unique too.
They say that having entrusted Mlle. Platel with the role of Gamzatti, Nuryev established once and for all the archetype French ballerina. How insightful on his part, seeing that here lays a macabre psychological drama; she exudes warmth and joy and beauty, on the eve of her betrothal while at the same time plotting to kill her rival. lol.
ELISABETH PLATEL -- HERE IN ALL HER SPLENDOR AND GLORY.
She is today the director of Opera Ballet School. I can't wait to see the new generation of dancers that will immerge under her brilliant coaching and vision.
I saw this live in 97 in New-York, with the same cast. What can I say; Mlle Platel single-handedly re-kindled my old passion for the ballet. When I thought that I would have to spend the rest of my life watching old DVDs
Thank you Michael - I have corrected the comments to reflect that it was indeed Élizabeth Platel not Isabelle Guérin. I have just posted part of the dance at the Betrothal of Gamzatti and Solar. I tried to reply to you earlier but I seem to have had a problem.
this choregraphy is certainly NOT Nureyev's

Nureyev is not the choreographer of La Bayadere. The credits go as follows:
Choreography: Marius Petipa
Libretto: Marius Petipa
Music: Leon Mincus
World premiere: 1877 St. Petersburg, Russia
The only thing Nureev can claim is brining this great, perhaps the greatest ballet ever to the stage of Opera de Paris.

Thank you for posting this. When I am sad and need to have my spirits lifted I watch her. She makes me happy.
