btw, the first track on the mix has remained a mystery to me for 5 or 6 years now! i'd still love to know what it is...

The firsy track is 'Maroon' by 'The Suburban Knight'. I've got his track on an Underground Resistance compilation called 'Interstellar Fugitives' which is fairly widely available if you try hard enough to find. All other tracks on this LP are good - worth the purchase.
