The venerable DC-3, what an aircraft! And many are still airworthy over 60 years after the last one was made. Amazing. Here in SJU at any particular moment you can see at least 6 or 7 in the tarmac. They use them mostly for inter-island deliveries.
@wizardcam Well that must have been exciting. I bet you felt like Maj. Dick Winters over Normandy for 3 minutes..........without the incoming fire of course. Regards.
@billace90 I was a bit young to have been there at Normandy, but I'm suspicious that my jump was indeed a bit more quiet....
The countless number of people that used that plane to fight for us and our freedom; it did give me cause to think a bit. I really wish I could have been at Oshkosh this year to see this. Sigh.
IMHO corporate dicks at "new" EAA did everything it could to PREVENT this. LastTimeOrg worked years to arrange "free" reunion wknd at Rock Falls + Monday mass OSH arrival, but @last second EAA insisted on getting primary credit, controlling everything, changing the day, etc. When LT balked at the takeover, EAA corp. marketing rushed alternative competing events trying to humiliate & co-opt LTO... but LTO got last laugh by mass arrival flyby above EAA control zone, then depart or land 1 by 1 !
@Xenathedog i Dunno... the politics from my perspective (an australian who's never been to oshkosh, but hopefully will), EAA seemed to be just interested in safety as in. how much fuel does everyone need to carry to wait and allow all these DC3s to land? anyhow, its nice that it seems atleast there was a mass arival somewhere of DC3s...
@CPTDJB Um, they were all on the ground in 13 minutes from initial overhead to the inbound arrival fix to touchdown of the last aircraft. There was no safety issue and the fuel flow is quite low in the traffic pattern. Besides, originally they were all going to fly longer anyway on Tuesday with a flyby so your point is moot.
OMG i got to go to oskhosh every dam year now after seeing this why have i always skipped this airshow wow.
