For the record, Gabe was always very sweet with other animals. He accidentally hurt a puppy at a family outing and you could tell he was so heartbroken over it. The puppy was fine, just scared after he got smushed a bit by a big forepaw. Gabe liked to slap when he played.

Oh my god they are so cute! These dogs are wonderful. I had a boy pyr we actually got from a neglectful situation and he was the absolute best dog ever. He was so gentle with the kids and protective of our family. And if we got onto him for something, we'd only have to do it once. He'd even enforce the rules on one of our other dogs (kept him from getting in the trash, stealing food from the babies, bullying the smallest dog). He passed away recently and I just miss having my good boy around.

Gracie, if you get a puppy and raise it with your cats there shouldnt be any problems. The Pyre will look to the cats as its flock and will guard them.

There very friendly there outdoor dogs so keep your cats inside but if you want he or she tooo come inside lockk the cats in there very expensive though when your feeding her dont give her human food or shell get hooked and wont eat her dog food oh and when your changing his/her diet mix the foood with both they must be fed a 2big bowls of food 1 in moring and 1 at night ok there about 500 - 1000 dollars they need a lot of yard y love too chase cars in the back yard they can jump high so get

Our GREAT pyr, Magnus Biblicus died last April at about 9 yrs ... SUDDENLY. The most laid back, easy-going dog I've ever met. We were thinking about a Newf, but after seeing these pups... I dunno, man... Pyrs are ONE OF A KIND, aren't they?

These GP look older in this video, my GP is only 8 weeks now and she is smaller then these but she is the runt of the litter but me and my family are always rooting for the underdog and she doesn't have to fight for her food and now she can eat as much as she wants without worrying about her siblings taking the food from her. Shes doing really well and I can't wait to see her when she gets older. Plus my husband still needs to meet her he comes home from Iraq soon

Pyrenees are not supposed to be aggressive unless they know something is wrong. They are great wolf killers and bears too when needed. Oldest and the noblest of all the breeds of dogs! I've had 2 and will have more some day.

My folk's Pyraneese (Hannah) was a great dog, had her for 10 years, but had to put her down this summer. My step-dad was DEVASTATED and he swore that he'd never get another dog again...

I guess time heals all wounds, because they got another Pyr-puppy, "Emma" , just before Christmas.

She is a sweet addition to the family, but much more vocal than my folks' last Great Pyr...

To anyone thinking about bringing a Pyr into your family... STOP THINKING AND DO IT NOW!!!! You won't be sorry.

My male cost $125, but he is not papered. His parents looked purebread and so does he. I did some shopping for papered dogs and they are $800 and up. The farmer I got my dog from is going to breed his male and female one more time. Contact me if you are interested and I'll pass on his info.

"Papered" means they have proof of their lineage. They cost a lot more. Non-papered, like I have, is probably purebread but no one has spent the $200 to prove it. For me, I bought my dog from someone who owns both parents.

I have 3 Pyrs. I paid $2000 each. They are of champion bloodline. I have seen them as much as $6000 each. It all depends on your intent with the dogs. For a champion show bloodline expect to pay between $2000-$5000 a pup. I would be a skeptical buying a pup for $125. It most likely isn't pure bread. It will lack the character and demeanor of a true Pyr. If it just to run around on your farm fine. But if you want true Pyr characteristics check out the AKC registry for Pyr breeders.

I really want a great pyrenees... too bad my housing situation probably won't allow it straight out of college. The sad thing about most pets... they're the most awesome... if not the most obedient... in the stage of life that's the shortest for them. I wish dogs were puppies for like a year instead of 6 months... because a midget breed like a chihuahua is no substitute for a good mid-to-large size dog. Plus, if you're gonna get barks you'd rather the house shake than your ears ring right?

they are wonderful dogs. what makes me sad with big breeds is they tend to have shorter lifespans and then there's people who buy them who can't handle a 100+ pound dog but think that the puppy will just stay that size forever... then you see beautiful, intelligent dogs like this go to the humane society or have to deal with the adjustment of finding a new home. i have a pyr as a sheep dog.

Pyr lifespan is 12 years according to the AKC which is longer than most large dogs. I agree that a Pyr takes a special owner. Sounds like your dog has found a good owner.

yeah, it's great because bailey loves her flock of sheep every bit as much as she loves us, and at the same time she's a huge asset because on occasions when lambs have gotten lost or stuck outside the pasture she lets us know immediately. i once saw her gently pull a ewe's trapped head out of a chunk of woven wire fence. brilliant dog. you raise for guardians?

Bailey sounds like a truely great guardian. Our adult dogs guard and about half the puppies go to be guardians. The rest go to families and become therapy dogs.
