Yucky poo. It just occurred to me that of all the uses we make of technology, firefighter masks still aren't equipped with a built-in rechargeable microphone and external speaker, or built-in group radio system. It just seems like it'd make life easier. Or maybe they are and we just can't see it.

Ahh. I know having a non-verbal way of communicating is helpful, but I hope that soon masks are equipped with a mic and speaker. Even just having a basic heat-resistant speaker mounted to the mask would let the person next to you hear you clearly. A group radio addition would be an enhancement beyond that. Somebody who knows how to do that sort of thing has to get on it.

Paul20072007, I've already been in turd. I've stood on top of the intake pipe (6 feet across) inside the receiving pit of the College Station, Texas wastewater treatment plant. Imagine a 6-foot wide waterfall of brown water that never stops falling beneath you. And that's just a city of about 55,000. I can't imagine the scale of New York or Philadelphia.
