Saw these guys open for Simple Minds back in (pretty sure 91) at the Universal Amphitheater. I personally thought they rocked better than S/M. After this tune, Ellison made a dry joke about how he hates to scream. The crown went wild! Was sad to learn he took his life a couple years latter.
Thanks for posting great this tune and the stroll down memory lane.
I saw them in chicago back in 94 or 95 for a Q101 breakfast concert, this was the band I wanted to see that morning, what a great song, has it been that many years? wow nostalgia
This song is still so current, after all these years. Musically, it is not dated at all; I would say that the song is timeless. 'Til this day, the melodramatic tune of "Valerie Loves Me" still makes me want to cry.
I remamber when I bought the tape and not the cd cause it was too expensive.Crazy how long its been.I wonder why this cat killed himself. This song still heard at parties today. If anyone knows why he died let me know. One love.
The tragedy came with the end of Jim Ellison´s life by suicide in ´96. What could be the reason? A. I believe this song may be the answer. This is another history shared to you by the beast 666... more comming up soon.
when i first saw the album cover so many years it looked like it said "matterhaus"..i was like....who the heck is matterhaus...while browsing my brothers cds...i ended up seeing them @ a club in vegas called SNEAKERS around 91'...great band.
Lead singer committed suicide in his garage in Rogers Park, Chicago. He went to a private Catholic school, and me public, but we grew up in the same area. He left a suicide note, but to this day his family has never released what it said.
I wish I could remember her name. We sat on her bed in the freshmen dorm and watched this video. I was too shy to make a move, so many yesterdays ago.
These guys were like a voice in the wilderness back in the late 80s and early 90s. Years too early for the power pop revival and acclaim they deserved. Shine on Jim. 10 years on you are still missed so much.
A friend went to school with you guys, Looking forward to seeing your show!
