  • Shop &deli changed to berks and i owned it!

  • @tHepUnIsHeRdUdEBeRkY and what was the reason for it changing hands?

  • i f*cking live there its not ghost town!

  • an update 2 years on........ Murphy Floods hotel is a carpark for 30 cars or so, Wickams will be opening before Christmas, Shop and Deli is closed down, Club Kavanaghs is up for rent (nightclub and restaurant), The old Dunnes stores building is still vacant, there are now a couple of Polish shops after opening...... long live the Sklep....... The castle museum is closed although it was due to open this year (Mythen Construction are now renovating it)

  • Lets all blame the recession.... or better yet the government , people seem to like doing that ! xP

  • i only stayed in enniscorthy during the week in the gorgeos treacies hotel i saw virually no empty shops and thought it was the best place i ever stayed in the only problems were ther was to much traffic and i couldnt keep my window open because of the people shoutin in the streets on a tuesday night at nearly 3 in the morning and this video only slightly looks like what i saw on the 20th october 2009 but it is no ghost town and im planning to move there after my visit ps. deadly song

  • Oh lads I remember this being on the front of the paper and about how a new video 'promoting' enniscorthy was to be posted (Which I still havn't seen) Fair play essembee, show it like it is! And another thing, was this filmed on Christmas Day or what? I never seen town so empty!

  • I recognize some of the buildings from Dr Who and Torchwood

  • r town is just shit and getting what can i say shitter

  • spratt shit in the shower

  • Liam power was the best thing that ever happened to enniscorthy and yas all wouldn't stop till he was banished.since he left enniscorthy the town has dropped in my book.Bring back Liam power and give him a job in tescos and things will improve!!

  • ROFL !!!!!!!! :D

  • good video man

  • The small retailers in this town only have themselves to blame, they have been ripping us off for years!! Bring on the development in Blackstoops, i say! An arts centre in the Atheneum would be great but the powers that be just dont care, they just want their money!

  • is this not deliberate dereliction for development

  • Its going to be interesting to see what happens to the town now that Dan Kickham has got planning permission to build a shopping centre at Blackstoops.

  • Although most of the small retailers in enniscorthy made their own bed, and are partly to blame for the present lack of life in the centre!!!

  • well obviously theres going to be nobody around when ya take the video at 5 in the morning.

enniscorthy is easily one of the nicest towns in wexford

  • the reason I posted this vid was to show the amount of shops that have closed down or lie empty, I filmed it at 7am so I could drive and walk around at leisure. I agree that enniscorthy is the nicest town in wexford, I should know cos I've lived her for many many years.

  • u really may get a life....seriously

  • nicest town in wexford? ahem.

  • pretty lame video ...why did u poster a comment on the chernobyl vid ? this is not likly the same....

  • tell me this how did ya get all those shots with barely any ppl in em?and enniscorthy isnt a kip ya faggit

  • and there are no homophobic rednecks there either...jock!

  • The town needs an arts centre, if the town lets the church sell off the atheneum to developers, it can kiss goodbye to it's soul.

That historic building, rich with the very heartbeat of the towns cultural heritage is as important, if not more important, than the

cathedral.Let's fight to save it, or is all the fight gone?.This video post is an interesting and valid statement, if a little lopsided, and a Tesco will only compound the

    problems of the small retailers.

  • Well done Shane, a good comment. I totally agree with you on the Atheneum but I would also like to see it kept as a theatre as well. I watched many a pantomime in there and thouroughly enjoyed them all, it would also be good if they could incorporate the old Castle nite club with the Atheneum to make one huge arts centre but that would unfortunately prove too costly. Tescos...... No comment !

  • what a kip

  • so sad to think so, at least thois vid is working, thanks for posting your thoughts

  • I visited Enniscorthy several times during the naughties and it was surprisingly nice. In reality, the retail decline reflected in this video could be in any town in Ireland in the current climate.

  • read about this in the echo

  • The Enniscorthy Guardian was better

  • What is the opening song? AWESOME BEAT!

  • It is called Ghost Town and its by The Specials who are a UK band from the early 1980's and their music was called Ska and they are just xelent.

  • the shits hitting the FAN world wide

    great post !!!

  • the only thing is is that the shit hit the fan in Enniscorthy long ago, the Celtic Tiger never arrived in Enniscorthy, we got no major industry to boast about and their is none in the pipeline. Sure enough their are a few small outlets on the industrial estate that employ 10+ people but we need a company that could emply 200+ and for the near seeable future none are gonna set up here.

  • You must have gotten up early on a Sunday morning to catch it being that quiet!!! Bu I agree, the town is on it's last legs.

  • I did, cos I did not want every one wanting to know what I was doing with a camcorder at that hour of the morn.

  • im shocked looking @ this, but even though this video makes the town look like a ghost town and bad, its the most beautiful town in the hole world, in my opinion. There are also lots of good sides to this town. i might do a video, i live right under vinegar hill, THE BEST PLACE EVER, :) tourists will love this town its a good place aswell. Just some ppl in it dont look after it, the history of here is amazing, thanks for the video :)

  • I do understand the point you're making with the video, and I agree with you for the most part; the closure of the Castle Museum and the Atheneum is absolutely dreadful news. However, poor businesses by their nature will fail and those which are profitable and economic will succeed. As an example, Tesco were planning to create 600 new jobs in the Blackstoops area, yet the Town Council have impeded their efforts to set up.

  • Thirdly, some of the places you've shot in your video aren't actually closed down at all. On at least two occasions you included footage of places which had "reserved" signs on them, one for a new café and the other for a new pharmacy. Hardly bad for business at all, is it?

  • Secondly, many of the businesses which have been created in Enniscorthy are simply bad ideas. Here, I'm referring to the pound shops, the (four hundred surpluss) bookmakers, the poor restaurants, and many other poor businesses which, again, are unsurprisingly wiped off the map. Similarly, some of the failed businesses such as Music Net and Dunnes on Rafter St and were badly run an didn't entice customers for that very reason. This is exactly why Whites Music succeeded and Music Net failed.

  • A few things occur to me while watching.

Firstly, many of the shopfronts that you've shown in the video are units that should never have been created in the first place due to their poor location within the town. These units are simply another byproduct of the wasteful construction industry which has been rampant throughout Ireland for the last decade and it's not at all surprising that they did not prosper. I'm talking about ares such as Templeshannon or Weafer St.

  • I would class Wesfer Street as being in the centre of town, Templeshannon was a thriving area 20 yrs ago.

  • Beautiful town, to bad its dieing, where is it in Europe?

  • Its in County Wexford in the Rep of Ireland. It is a beautiful town and is steeped in history, it is sat in a valley beside the River Slaney and from the eastern side of the town theres a beatiful view of mount Leinster which the sun sets behind in the evening.
