I am considering purchasing a chopper mark 3, I am 16 yrs old and I wish to use it as regular transport, Im 5 foot 9 and 10 and a half stone and I was just checking that someone my age can comfortably ride it as Im going to have to buy it off the internet and therfore I cannot have a test drive!
@ABlueSunset it will fit you perfect i'm 5.3 and im 19 years old and i sitll ride the bike im not sure about my weight but i think am light considering the amount of times i rode the chopper nom stop from being 13 years old but they are the best bikes to ride mine is in the middle of being restored i never had time getting to it but its bound to be back on the road
@RJMC07 Thanks very much :) Alos, seeing as how you are the nearest thing to an expert I'm in contact with! Where would you recommend me buying it from? Is ebay a good option? As I know the chrome frame can wear easily and I don't want to have to repaint it etc. Thanks!
@ABlueSunset well belive it or not but i have 3 raleigh choppers all in good nick and i want rid of them im not sure about ebay and yea the chrome wears over the years but its usually from the elements or mainly salt from the winter but putting a coat of paint on it should keep it from rusting
@ABlueSunset i dot have one lol but best thing is to try is ebay and also little bike shops like indepentant ones not the big companies like halfords cause there just stupid and usless
@scottvoltageable believe it or not i am 5ft 3 still and i have always been this height since i made this video am 20 yrs old now i made that video when i was 16
yea nice bike, you can actually pick up the MK3's relatively cheaply, i found one for sale in my paper just for £25. I have a MK2 chopper 1975 fully restored, i think you will find that the original chopper was in 1969 through to 1971, that was the MK1 chopper, and then the mk2 chopper was from 1971 - 1982 - although frame production ceased in 1980. Great fn to ride and im only 18 lol
we in barbados have the real choppers we also stunt with them so look out for it soon ,they cost about $200 bajan dollars, nice for the beach and off road ,alos free style.
i bought a red one exactly like that off ebay on the weekend , waiting for it to be deilivered. i dont think it has a light on the front, did you put that on yourself?
Nice! I have a MK 3 aswell. I would love a MK2 or MK1 but I'm a stdent and do I hell have enough money to buy one or restore it! Plus I love actually riding my bike around town without having to worry about damaging it. My friend is restoring a MK2 and it's a pain in the arse getting all the parts for it.
has your friend tried ebay for the mk2 parts sumtimes there on ebay for months
and my mk3 is a bit damaged from the weather mostly on the mudgurads underneath i think they are a really good bikes to ride at any age and i am 18 and i still ride it
Nice Raleigh Chopper but if i were to buy one i wouldn't bother with the MK3 i would try to get an Original MK1 or 2. They are more sought after and to get an original one in good condition would be quite expensive though. I have a Raleigh Twenty that i use instead.
Ive got a mark 3 but the fame broke at the back an the back rest came off but i fixed it now with copper pipe and im hoping to get a black mk3 of ebay some say there are very rare.
the modern choppers are quite good mines about 5 years old i just had it restoed from the winters damage i spent a few months repairing it and cleanign it up and a bit of oil and greasing checkout my new video i just uploaded of it
ive tried to get a mk1 for 3 years there too rare to get where i live but after 5 years nearly riding the mk3 i just cant part from it. to me the mk i have rode for 5 years has like grown on me.
and to be honest if the mk1 and mk2 were poular bk in there time and still are
look to the future the mk could also be popular i mean yes its a heap of scrap but its also apart of our childhood memorys aswell
quick update about my chopper she is in bad condition over the xmas holidays from the salt on ythe roads her mudguards are all rusted up and is need of a new dynamo i wil have her running again for the sumer holidays so keep a eye out on my channel for new videos of the chopper bike
I built up a Chopper ages ago. I took mudguards from an old shopper type bike. They were stainless steel so didnt rust. Had to drill them to fit. Wasnt difficult. They had a sticker on them saying stainless steel. Think they were off a Dawes bike. Had other guards stamped with the word Inox, French name of stainless steel. You could look out for a bike at a recycling or junk yard. Mark 3 choppers are slated over poor chrome.
yea the chrome ones on my bike are really bad even the salt from the roads ruined them but the rust asyily comes of with chrome polish i got from halfords gets the rust of instant and the carrier on the back is badly rusted to iam still restoring the bike up for the summer cleaning it up and cleaning the rust off i just need to have the chain put back on as its been stittin in a bottle of engine oil for a few weeks
when i bought the choper back in 2004 there were all over halfords bike section as i remember the chopper cost me 200 pound and i must say it was worth it am 17 now and i still ride it its better than a suspension bike altogether and to be honest it is the legend that can't die
I had both a mark one and 2 two when i was a young kid. Gr8 bikes. Great for giving your mates a 'backie' By 82 i had a bmx but still kept the chopper. In the 80's they were a common sight on the local rubbish tip. Wish i had collected them up. People are screaming out for the parts on them now. Too bad the 'ball cruncher' gear shift and long seat has gone on the mk3. Clearly Health & Fucking safety felt it was just far too dangerous for current youngsters.
They may have had to get rid of certain things due to the namby pamby "Health and safety" laws of today but it is nice to see it has good reception from fans.
SOme people even buy em and custom them to be like the mkII for example...I guess that's cause they are cheaper and easier to find maybe.
the choppers are quite short from the seat to the bars. The seat is like a downhill saddle so quite wide. Will be a bit tough to ride on hills as your legs are splayed by the wide seat and when you stand up you will be near the bars and might hit your knees on them.
yea you are right about riding up hill me knees sumtimes catch the handle bars and the peadals i have on it are differnt to the stock one the ones that are on now are dynamo led pedals i added them on for the dark nights but i have changed them back to the original pedals
i have a mk3 chopper but i find that after a while the seat is really uncoftable, do u find that, or wod it b because of the seat may b slightly slanted or bcos ive got a weird shapped arse, lol thx
This was the bike I always wanted back then but never had, although I managed to get a few rides on my mate's one! Nice bike but your history is a bit out. The original Chopper Mk.1 was not 1976 but 1970 (in the UK) having first been unsuccessfully launched in the USA in 1968. Then the Mk.2 came along in 1972. The original Chopper remained in production until 1982, when BMX bikes started to dominate the market.
hi thanks for the q im not quite sure wht the frame size is on the chopper but i no that there is one size to the chopper mk3 and im not quite sure the wheel size are but ill look on the bike and let u no
I just got that bike today

Hi,
Just wondering if you can help me.
Has the MK3 only have one size? What is this size/sizes?
can the MK 3 be rode on by a fully grown adult with ease? Can the seat be adjusted up and down?
Many thanks, I hope you can help
