I'm not to sure, but I think I read somewhere that Gwen thought the lyrics were too 'dark' or something and so they changed it. I like both though! For different reasons of course.

Well, technically Gwen Stefani wrote the lyrics and co-wrote the music with Tim Rice-Oxley. So she and Tim share the rights. Meaning that if they were to put this on a album, they would need her permission too, and she would get money from every album and copy of this song sold.
