Just a little observation. The media in the south and the political establishment trumpeted "it's time to forget the past and move on" when the Queen visited Ireland, but now the very same people are focused completely on Martin McGuinnesses past. Personally I'm not so sure about Sinn Fein, but they certainly couldn't do any worse than Fianna Gael / Fianna Fail and the way the establishment are behaving tempts me to stick two fingers up at them. Remember Lisbon?

A comment from England. I'm not biased on any of this, I watch interviews with politicans from all over the world. I think the people of the 26 counties will have difficulty having him as their President because of his past. It is also strongly rumoured that he and Gerry Adams were both members of the IRA's Army Council until 2005, just 6 years ago. There were many things he was involved in that are way outside the remit of a fair armed struggle. I think the south will be reluctant to elect him.
