WITH HIS PASSING HE GAVE THE GIFT OF LIFE TO 3 STRANGERS, PHIL, ONLY IS ALIVE TODAY because of a liver transplant, FOREVER GRATEFUL TO U PHIL , FURTHUR!! when we were asked to name 2 songs to play, all I could say in my grief was IT HAD TO B SPECIAL, his OWN, both shows can b found at The Dead Archive.net WE MISS U,most touching show EVER RIP

Furthur finally gave this song its due last night in Eugene, marrying it up to the lyrics that Hunter, Croz, Jerry and Phil had written to accompany the awesome music they had just created....

I read somewhere that this song was a remnant of the early days (63?) when garcia/kantner/crosby

No, Garcia was not an original member it was Kanter Crosby and Frieberg's vision they had back in the 60's.

The rehearsal tapes made in 1971 featured David Crosby, Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, Graham Nash, Michael Shrieve, Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, David Freiberg, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart, Neil Young, Jorma Kaukonen, Joni Mitchell, Laura Allan, Jack Casady, and Gregg Rolie.
