at 3:19 was symbolic for me, for me that was when Thor made Mjolnir roar and saying, Well done Warrior, Welcome to Valhalla opening the doors for him!!
@einar1911 Yes it is. Its based on a book by Michael Crichton called "Eaters of the Dead" which itself is a mix of the Beowulf story and the real-life historical account of 10th century arab courtier Ahmad Ibn-Fadlan's encounter with Bulgar Vikings. Antonio Banderas plays the character of Ahmad Ibn-Fadlan in the movie.
@rencrow I have read the book and the cultural differences are amazing yet not unexpected. Just watched the movie again last night. The book is so indepth though. I thought it was funny though, how Ahmad Ibn Fahlan thought the Northmen smelled horrible until they met up with the 'eaters of the dead'. In the book, the way they describe how the brains were the most prized of body parts... hence they always took the heads and would let them rot before consuming them. Yummm, lol.
Very inspirational, yet very chilling simultaneously. Everyone desires to be remembered when they are gone, but it's usually the small, few brave individuals who live forever in memory.
@KainColt I agree with you. My brother got some riot police on horseback charging at us on hd film and ended up presenting it all in slow motion, I couldn't understand for the life of me why he did that, it was so epic and happened pretty fast. Some dude got ran over and rolled underneath 6 horses right behind me.
This battle never happened: it is all fantasy, a tale to convince the violents that they were in the right side, fighting the dark folks. As an epic story, it has no balance.
@abuealfonso10 a nigger is a nigger....this film is why the white/ethnic men created civilization.and cannibals keep destroying it. just look at our major cities....niggers.
The tribes in this movie in rl are called then Wend etc., native tribes of scandinavia .and in this case wore bear or even wolf skins which the vikings called Beserkers and sometimes had in their military
the battles in this film with these horrible monsters reminds me of our freaky battle with Al Qaeda, in Iraq we are in a war with real daemons and monsters.
The death of Buliwyf was epic, and I sought this out on youtube for the sole purpose to watch it again. Buliwyf was my absolute favourite character, and he died an honorable and proud death; like a king watching over his kingdom, or in this case - a true Warrior.
It was a great movie in general as well, and I loved it from beginning to end. Many scenes were very smart, like when Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan learned their language. The soundtrack was also great, with a powerful and honorary feeling to it.
@alicosu You are retarded prick. How many slavs do you know personally? Typical scandinavian and typical slavic looks very much alike. You will never tell a difference.
suck christianity, this is true religion of the men, religion about bravery, honor, and brothership, about family, about proud to be one of nation, thats true , because brave men and heroes, live for ever not because of their soul, but because they live for ever in the legends and stories, remember someone it mean make him immortal truly

A Strong film...with a strong message...of Nordic beliefs and Values...to echo down the centuries to us....their descendants!.....that we as a race of white..warriors roaming about Europe...believed in standing together to fight together as one against tyranny...even facing down lmost certain death....that was once treated as Glorious for warriors to aspire to deliver their soul to eternity in val halour. So If we turn our backs on our cultural roots....what are we...?....nothing!.
I agree with your sentiments, but it is not "val halour" it is Valhalla. The Judeo Christian equivalent is Heaven. The Nordic call it Valhalla and is believed that you can only go there if you die during a battle. It is then that the Valkkyre (Angels) will take you there to spend an eternity fighting beside the God Thor.

@BolloDaBrute Err no neolithic culture and viking or muslim civilisation never co-existed. Vikings and Muslims were thousands of years after neolithic times. This film is what they call 'fantasy'.
@DominionOfTheSword The time of transition (from neolithic to civilization) wasn't universal. There were people fighting with bronze or iron swords while others with stone axes. The neolithic age, as we record it, was certainly over but I said "neolithic culture".
Early agriculture, domestication of animals, weaving, pottery and most important, the use of stone tools and weapons (some even polished). In parts of the world you can still find cultures with these characteristics.
@BolloDaBrute Fair enough but you are saying the film shows a time when this happened. And it didn't happen at that time. There were no neolithic people in Scandinavia or Muslim countries at that time. Maybe in America
Did he say neolithic people? There was a time (and still is) in Scandinavia people that believed/believe in Valhalla, the Valkkyre and that Thor is just another name for God. I believe there is only one God, but do not find it important what name people ascribe to him, be it Thor, Allah, Jesus, or Buhda.

The name of the translator Fraus Dolus is in fact two Latin words meaning both 'hoax' and 'fraud'.
Some people should just shut the fuck up and stop trying to ruin other people's fun, this is a movie, a good one too, not a historical documentary. If you want to watch something historically accurate go and watch BBC documentaries and stop whining here.
Certain North European cannibals were called Androphagi by Herodotus. They fought as allies with the Scythians against King Darius the Great (who was the father of Xerxes) when Darius led a great European invasion to punish the Scythians. This was years before Marathon.
Where was the place the Vikings went to some say it was ancient Atlantic Canada others speculate it was ancient Ukraine in the Carpathians. Just wonder what the consensus is?
In the book the storyline is way better, in the book its no more Bulwuyf himself whenn he joins his man for battle, it is Oden with his two ravens on his shoulders, in the body of Bulwuyf...
Yes. If the people are willing to follow their general to the gate of Hell, they will often crumble upon his death for they put their trust in him. That's why in modern military there are many officers and in the case of no officers, the sergeants can take command.
Real vikings aren't assassins, they are warriors, with codes as those from a knight, faithful servants of Odin, and not those "Loot, Pillage and Kill" mans with horns on their helms. No. Those were only barbaric coast populations who lived pillaging other countries, and besides, the real Vikings discovered America, not the spanish neither the british.
Yes. But when they discovered North America, they attempted to populate it and were driven out. This was because they invited the tribal leaders around them to a grand feast. In the feast they served milk, which the Indians were not accustomed to. The milk contained bacteria that the vikings were used to but the Indians were not prepared for it. Most o the Indian leaders in the feast died. Their people believed the vikings poisoned their leaders and so they drove the vikings out.
I knew something similar to that, but in south america, where spanish conquerors bringed several diseases on their clothes. Didn't know that fact, and I'm still guessing if there was a war or a "peaceful drove out", cause I've never read something like that on history books. Thanks a lot, I am one step closer to the Nirvana thanks to you =) May Odin guide thy sword.
first. intresting story but false. Viking is not the name of people you refer Northman is better term. Vi-King was to go raiding. Second they never made a attempt to populate North America they built a colony HUGE difference
eeeerrrrrrr MAD358, where ARE you from? (it's not entirely clear from your comments). [You seriously think Vikings spontaneously appeared in the 700s AD? and certainly England was settled by Romans. Hadrian built his "wall" to keep the scots out....]
what youre saying the scots and northmans are the same??? the english people are no celts. they are all disciples of the saxons. who cleared britannia from the romans. some hundred years later when it became england the northmans came.
hahaha ur an idiot mate roman empire fell in 600 ad viking wernt around until the 8 century. and jus so u know they conqured england in there time somthing rome couldnt wen they tryed it ceasrer failed. know 1 fucked wit the vikings read it up
are you daft... the vikings have been around alot longer before that. The Saxon's, Angles, Jut's? It's just that the Danes came to England around the 8th century.

After my opinion better more dramaticaly...

I LOVED this movie when I was a kid! I was like 10! And I LOVED it and yes it was their leader Madbulll..........
MY0SECOND0SHADOW 2 years ago 2
i never got why they all ran away, was that one the dude killed their leader?
madbullowns 2 years ago 2
Yes. If the people are willing to follow their general to the gate of Hell, they will often crumble upon his death for they put their trust in him. That's why in modern military there are many officers and in the case of no officers, the sergeants can take command.

Pride through glory. The true virtue of a warrior.

Translating my response to Donchilenito:
Real vikings aren't assassins, they are warriors, with codes as those from a knight, faithful servants of Odin, and not those "Loot, Pillage and Kill" mans with horns on their helms. No. Those were only barbaric coast populations who lived pillaging other countries, and besides, the real Vikings discovered America, not the spanish neither the british.
AngelofKaos 2 years ago 4
Roachpoacher 2 years ago
I knew something similar to that, but in south america, where spanish conquerors bringed several diseases on their clothes. Didn't know that fact, and I'm still guessing if there was a war or a "peaceful drove out", cause I've never read something like that on history books. Thanks a lot, I am one step closer to the Nirvana thanks to you =) May Odin guide thy sword.
AngelofKaos 2 years ago
first. intresting story but false. Viking is not the name of people you refer Northman is better term. Vi-King was to go raiding. Second they never made a attempt to populate North America they built a colony HUGE difference

MAD358 3 years ago 3
eeeerrrrrrr MAD358, where ARE you from? (it's not entirely clear from your comments). [You seriously think Vikings spontaneously appeared in the 700s AD? and certainly England was settled by Romans. Hadrian built his "wall" to keep the scots out....]
1971matteo 2 years ago
what youre saying the scots and northmans are the same??? the english people are no celts. they are all disciples of the saxons. who cleared britannia from the romans. some hundred years later when it became england the northmans came.

MAD358 3 years ago
no really?! Like eddie murphy said. (Tell us something we dont know mother fucker) and i hope u know the meaning of *;P*
DonChilenito 3 years ago
are you daft... the vikings have been around alot longer before that. The Saxon's, Angles, Jut's? It's just that the Danes came to England around the 8th century.
ajaxfan34 2 years ago
