I don't care if I sound fickle or stupid or naive, I've never made a short or anything before, I'm still learning how to understand what makes a great film and what makes for great storytelling, but I want to be a filmmaker too. At times, I get lost as to where to start exactly and get scared if I'm just naive but heck, I might as well give my life away to something I could possibly love more than anything and be great at. Let's keep on keepin' on guys! :)
the film industry seems so hard to get in but once your in you can hold on lol they have to learn to start letting more people in im not saying everyone but damn make it more approachable than been an astronaut
Too many people these days think they are film makers. Everyone wants to have a dream and be noticed. Get over yourselves. The fact of the matter is very few have the talent and experiences to make anything interesting; and even most of those have a million to one shot of getting any distribution. Wake up kiddies the bills and reality are calling.
I get goosebumps watching this. What an amazing environment to be in. Amongst creative filmmakers all there to refine their craft, talk, learn and create stories. I crave this kinda stuff! I'd love to do this some day *sigh*
I don't like what films turning into, it seems now its all technical and too non-real. Directors try to be so creative, and they say they want a shot for a certain reason, but there just doing it for the hell of it. I don't know maybe it's just me, directors are turning into musician store clerks that deal with new musicians.
Seriously Lawrence? Have you been watching films lately? Check out Brothers Bloom, Slumdog Millionaire, and [500] Days of Summer. Your point is thus refuted. FIlm is art. Each shot conveys a message. Each shot should carry the story forward. each shot should be motivated. Creativity and style is part of the art. Think through the history of painting. Painting can be incredibly technical, with incredible results: Mona Lisa, anything Michelangelo, or the Dutch Masters painted. Technicality is ok.
I think Lawrence was refering to all the cgi being used in film today, not film itself. You cannot deny all the garbage out there dude, from modern Tim Burton trash, to Uwe Boll, to all the parody films such as Dance Flick, Superhero Movie, Epic Movie etc...and
...and yeah dude, indie films aren't great all the time, sometime's you can watch a shitty Indie film love story or whatever only to be bored to death and dissapointed, and then you go to the mainstream cinema and witness No Country for old Men or Milk. End of Story, I never side with either Indie or mainstream, they can both offer something great from time to time :) but yeah CGI is getting pretty annoying. Unless it's used to push the film forward and done right I have no problem with it.
Man, that's what directors NEED to be, and when they strive to pair images with a song, it's not to sell or promote a track, but to enhance the experience for the audience by marrying the concepts together. I don't think you get it.
Hey UpDog did u get any of that updog n the fridge?UpDog "No,what's updog?"-NsighT- "I don't know,WHAT"S UP DOG?":-P Sorry,had2do it.. U should do narration type, fly on the wall observation vids.If u film and edit, then there is no need4anyone but the mastermind(you)an u just have tuh brainstorm aquick an unique idea based on your surrounding, execute an deliver. If it has substance an u push it,som1 will see it, eventually. I am n luv with this Sundance series.Great idea an upload!
I'm 14 and ive wanted to be a filmmaker for as long as i can remember. I was making alot of videos with my friends from 2007-2008 but this year alot of them moved out from the area i live in. So all i have is a camera left to make videos with no actors. Any advice on how i can continue to pursue my dream??
Got any friends? Im 13 with the same dreams. I have a camera but not enough people to make a movie with. Hopefully I can find someone before the end of summer
Wow, I want to go to Sundance. My telecom professor had been there quite a few times. I can't wait to start my broadcasting career. Maybe if I can network with a couple of like-minded individuals, I could be a part of an experimenting film crew while I'm in college. What do you think?
Sounds like an interesting idea. Do you have anyone working on that now? My relatives always made sure we remember that the Choctaws sent help to the starving Irish, our ancestors, during the famine years--- at a time when the Native Americans themselves were suffering.
Its almost always hard to get the equipment you need. My advice is to save little by little. If your in school the normally you will have access to equipment. Also make contacts you would be surprised what you can do with one camera and a bunch of objects donated by friends.
Carlzmotion you don't need equipment as this video shows there is an army of people out there wanting to help you get your movie made. You need two things, an idea and passion. The rest is like Field of Dreams, if you want it it will get made. (yeah misquote real quote if you build it they will come)
I have always wanted to send in a script. For some reason I thought it was too step a hill to climb. But there are only 3,000 scripts submitted and they chose 8. Maybe the odds aren't that great! I like the international flavor of the group. Robert Redford must be so proud of his life's work.
this is absolutely amazing! I go to a musicians "camp/resort" thing in tenesse every year. and the environment when your surrounded by people who all share your passion is just amazing. You grow leaps and bounds in your art and you meet so many incredible people. And to have sundance have their own resort, im sure its just phenominal
i 18 years old and one of my dreams is expose my imagination on films or animation projects to the world, but i don't have the corage to do that!!! if some of you have a sujestion please post here i love movies, fotography!! but maybe one day i'll the luck to travel the worl or work with some of you guys or make good films like you!!
nowadays equipment is not a problem, there are people they did feature films even with a cellphone! but in average, a camera and a pc is enough: it seems that you have a pc, so you only need a camera, which can be bought with 2 or 300$. And if you don't have them, you probably know someone who can lend you his cam. Filmmaking was never so easy! Try it!
Just make movies and the equipment will come as your skill grows. Each film will get you in contact with new and interesting people, if you look around for volunteers in the industry. The next time you need something, one of those people will know someone who has a Camera. Or lights. Or Sounds Equipment.
You just have to get out there and do it. Good luck.
You dont need equipment! That's one of the hardest gates to get through. . .the myth that you need top of the line stuff. If you love making movies, grab anything that takes video, or even pictures, and start making stuff and dont stop!
