  • The 412 was a horrible car. It didnt last.

  • what happend to the oil cap they put that on for a reason

  • @fuscacorbin I'm using the alternator mount only. The oil spout is non functional. Type 1 and type 4 engines have different oiling systems from the fill to the drain, plus the type 4 came from the factory with a spin on oil filter.

  • looks like a type 1 to me other than the heater boxes. why , if this is a t4 would you set it up with an upright fan. having the f cooling fan on the crank eliminates the possibility of over heating if you break a belt. besides that it's more efficient for overall cooling of the heads and the oil. your loss I guess.

  • @nappytedd

Because I put in my Ghia convertible, and I didn't want the extra weight or to hack up the engine compartment.

  • A new head gasket please.

  • @radnitzku Head gasket?

  • Can I ask 2 questions. (Mebbe 3...)

My family had a 412 when I was a kid. I thought type 4s were 1600. This is 2056cc. Is that stock or have you bored it out?

What other things can you do to a type 4 engine to improve performance?

Can a type 4 engine be fitted to a type 3 body or a type 2?

Your sounds good - what sort of power are you getting out of it?

  • Type 4 stock is 1700-2000cc (not including the vanagons 1980-1983). I have a 72 bus, which is the first year they put Type 4s in vws and its a 1700. The dual port part is right though.

  • no, type iv's came with 2.1, 2 and 1.8 litres

  • @Cchange4us type4's are 1.7 1.8 and 2.0

the 2.1 is a water boxer, different engine

  • sweeeet

  • I would litteraly do any thing to have that motor :O
