This song came across as a bit of a joke when it first came out and I must admit when I bought it I was to young to understand what was being said, I just liked the tune, but actually when I listen to it now I find the lyrics are quiet profound.
@chocolatelover627 i don't like Justin Bieber, but just because you are over twelve and like his music doesn't make you stupid. It doesn't make you anything. It's their taste, stop being immature.
@xD1V1N1TY People keep becoming more shallow and mind numbed as time goes on. Most of the people who are over the age of 12 and like his music are either stupid and/or ignorant of other talented artists.
@dot4design Thanks for that. Really I was referring to the simplicity and ease of life back then. I guess every generation does that. But yeah, some pretty good sounds back then no question.
Hello. Allow me to introduce myself. I am topsyandpip56. I know, more or less, every major band from the 1980's, and I can tell you this has NO RELEVENCE TO ABBA WHAT-SO-EVER. This is no rip-off of Abba, I mean, how does the line: Hello Doctor! Lift my face Have any relevence to: Dancing Queen, Only 17?
@moneymandate "Living in the Plastic Age" has a sort of futuristic distopian essence to it. I can see where you would make that connection. This song would make a good soundtrack to Brave New World.
WAY ahead of its time - i bow to you Mr T Horn sir. Remember staring at the sleeve listening to this in 80, aged 9, in awe. Now i play the piano like a demon. Thanks TH
My favourite track from The Buggles. It did sound quite futuristic when I first heard it on Radio Luxembourg in early 1980.
It's about time someone did a good updated cover version. I think WELLE ERDBALL from Germany would be up to this challenge as their sound is very similar to The Buggles.
Defining album of the 80s. Hans Zimmer played much of the synths. He's such a dick! I had to do a quick drop off at his studio in Santa Monica some months back and he came out and told my driver, "Get this fucking truck out of this lot right now!!!!"
It's not credited anywhere on the album. In fact no other musician is credited, though many musicians contributed. The only real proof is in the music video for the song, "Video Killed The Radio Star" where you can clearly see Hans playing in front of his monolithic Modular Moog. It's toward the end of the vid where Trevor starts playing bass.
THIS is what I call music.

I. LOVE. THIS. SONG. It's my second or first favourite by them, it fluctuates between this and "Elstree". Hehehe
But the weird noises at the beginning kinda creep me out. It's not really that big of a deal, still though, what the crap?

To me it's about an average man's life in the future as seen from 1980... funny how relevant some of the feelings in the song are now.

I hear a similarity to "Driving In My Car" by Madness in the vocal phrasing. This came first, of course.
