What Is this show about?? Is it any good?? It looks good because 1, it has the Master in it and 2 It sounds like something I would be watching (like Doctor Who and Primeval)
@derppable It's not good at all. It is BRILLIANT. It's probably my favourite show right after Doctor Who.
It's about a modern day cop, DCI Sam Tyler, who's investigating a serial killer who may have kidnapped his girlfriend. So far, so normal...until he gets hit by a car and wakes up in 1973. Now he has to deal with politically incorrect coppers who care less about evidence and more about getting the job done by any means necessary. It's got a lot more depth to it, but it's well worth a watch.
@thelawsofphysicsarea Americans are fine with racy stuff. American television networks (because of American advertising buyers) are not. The pay channels (like HBO, Showtime, etc.), which are able to show racier stuff, only show their own content when it comes to television shows. Money reasons, I'm sure.
The U.S. version has a stellar cast and I'm quite enjoying the series, but I'm also looking forward to watching the UK version after I finish with the U.S. one.
the best the best THE BLOODY BEST! i am on fucking withdrawal... i could watch both series over and over again. how am i supposed to live without it!? impossible. argh!
Concerning the American version, I agree that it's not as good as the UK LoM, but do people have to keep bashing it so hard? They tried their own thing, had their own twists... So what if they dulled down the violence & cursing - it was the story & characters that made the UK LoM great. Obviously the US saw promise in the original or they wouldn't have made an adaption. That makes them fans too. Wish the UK show had gone on longer. It's wicked as it is, but I want more!
I think it's a shame how this show is treated. I've seen the german dubbed version of the first season and it was so great, but they didn't show the 2. season. I tried to watch the original, but I hardly understand that manchester accent (Or whatever it is). And the US rather make their own version than showing the original cause they think, americans only want to consume american products, or what? Such a goood show and it never had a chance to get the success it deserved.
the americans had to make a new series because this version (the good one) would have been to racy for them. all the mummies and daddies wouldn't have wanted their poor little children to hear words like shit, and see all that violence. also, if it isn't american, they don't like or don't understand it. (i should know. i have to live here. thanks mum and dad! not.)
I totally agree that the UK version is much better, it's my favorite show, but what i didn't like about the US version (from what i saw) was they turned UP the violence! I mean, just look at season 1 episode 5(?) of the American; Sam is beaten to a pulp by a crazy man holding an entire hospital hostage. I don't remember anything like that happening in the original...?
@thelawsofphysicsarea Well. The ABC version of LOM got canceled after one season due to poor ratings. It's seems Amercian viewers aren't as dumb as some people seem to think.
@thelawsofphysicsarea lolz, I'm american, and unfortunately I do agree with you on the most part. Although, most of my favorites shows are British, so I applaud your country for making meaningful comedies and dramas like this one :D
@thelawsofphysicsarea Are you kidding?! I love British shows, so do a lot of my friends (can't wait for Misfits Season 3!) American TV is garbage, we live in a nanny state, it sucks.
@thelawsofphysicsarea I believe it's more because of the cultural difference between 70s America and 70s England. They wanted to tell the story with 70s America, for Americans. I agree there are plenty of ways they definitely could've done it better, but I think Jason O'Mara was fantastic.
Haven't seen the English original but I love the US show. Too bad it looks like it's going to be cancelled. :( I think North American audiences will relate more to the US version (American references, cars, history etc...), but I'll definitely check out the UK version on DVD.
If only we could save the US show from it's impending demise. :(
The UK version was awesome!!!!!!!!!! The US version had a very disappointing ending...nothing like the UK version. The UK version is DEFINATELY worth watching. There is also a spin off from the UK version called Ashes To Ashes
I think Americans and the English just have such a different sense of humor. I think the US version is ten times better but if I lived in England I'd probably like this better.
Have you seen the British version of The Office? yeahhh.... haha
Very much so. So many American jokes I find funny at first, then they keep going and dissect it until there's nothing funny left... but apparently, to Americans, that makes it funnier.
The American version was made for American audiences. Its goal is for that audience to like it better than the import - there's nothing wrong with that goal being reached, especially in a show that relies so heavily on nostalgia, which isn't the same across the Atlantic.
seriously people how can anyone say the US version is better!? For gods sake they took the UK version transplanted the story without a change and expect every two bit idiot to watch it. They did with the office and now life on mars!!!
It's probably no better...just lost on Americans because they understand US references beteer than British references throughout the show. That being said, I prefer the US version.
watched the first ever one a couple of months before it was relised my mate works in lightin got the test dvd u can see the wires wheres sams on the roof sayin if he kills himself he wilgo back before they eddited them out
this looks pretty cool but i kind of prefer the US version cause its more action packed and that's more my style but i wanna see this version next time its on TV
Ya I saw he got hit by another car, but it looked cool. Anyway series 2 starts filming April 2007 which im kinda dissapointed at. But good show, I have all 8 episodes on DVD
