I saw this concert when they came to Florida. They played to a capacity crowd and the performances were amazing. I don't believe the critics below understand that all of the pieces that Bela and Chick prepared for this series of concerts are fully composed pieces that are extremely difficult to play. But that is what happens when artists try to venture into new and unexplored creative territory.
@legato1bassman I'm a musician myself, I have seen them perform. Chick is amazing, Bela is amazing. Some parts of their music together was a bit noisy. Particularly banjo ( which I enjoy and even play a little) is generally a noisy and somewhat percussive instrument. It is hard for banjo to fit-in everywhere.
ughhhhhh! where's the heart and soul??? or is it - "if I play a ton of notes I'll be great" What a bore. I wouldn't have been able to sit through this show.
I saw these two in Columbus, OH. It was utterly fantastic. The auditorium was brand spanking new. Bela playing jazz licks and Chick playing blue grass.
I love this song. The Enchantment is a great album. At first I had to think a lot before spending my $10 on it because just piano and banjo seemed kinda boring to me. But these guys are awsome, The Enchantment is one of my favorites now (Along with Corea's The Ultimate Adventure). I'd love to see them play live.
maybe because it's mostly those guys that can bare a life of solitude & study, since their precedent social encounters may not have been particularly motivating or encouraging, they are more at peace with a life that is lived alone in many ways and at many times ...
chick, lyle mays (omfg), bill evans (ok when he was young maybe not the ugliest, but insecure as hell), ...
Bela was tuning his banjo strings so Chick pretended to do the same to his piano... Then Bela pretends to pull out a hair and plucks one of his strings... The whole show had a lot of that kind of stuff. They work really well together.
It's actually the second song off of their album "The Enchantment", "Spectacle". If you listen carefully in the beginning of the video Bela states the song name. Kudos if you were just making a joke though =)

@koletski21 i think the idea is just simply embracing the constrast of the two intruments that probably helped them both want to do this project.

Replace the piano with a guitar and you might have something worthwhile. Or maybe it's just that the pianoman likes to play a lot of notes for show.

@krushnoi that "pianoman" is the great Chick Corea, someone you'd not be worthy of eating his nail clips for pudding

This style reminds me very much of Dutilleux and Francaix. It's so light and airy, it just flies up and down. Very Cool
