At 3:44 pause the video. How can that dog even fit in that "house"? Dogs can suffer hypothermia, just becuase they have fur dose not mean that they are 100% protected from the elements. Crazy.
My GF and I own a travel business and the best thing we did was to invest in an Alaskan cruise. We did the dog sledding but it was in buggies on the dirt and these dogs can go!!! If any of you are planning an Alaskan cruise I highly recommend doing this excursion! You can go to my channel and view our video.
i own my own team.. instead of huskys/malamutes, i use german shepherds. did u know that they were actually used for dog sledding back then than huskys? i think GSD are more strong working and determined.
Sorry for the delay in posting. I hope you got to go dogsledding. We paid around $400 something I think but that was in 2005. I was a passenger but everyone is offered a chance to stand in back and mush. I can't remember the company name now but it's the same one the cruise line books. It was canceled at the previous port where we were booked so I got a last minute booking with the same company at the next port....quick phone calls and some flexibility on our part. I wish it hadn't been so warm.
WOW! You are so lucky. Your grandma is special. She must think you're special, too, to take you on a cruise to Alaska. Enjoy having such a fun grandma. I don't have any more grandmas.
I had mixed feelings about dog sledding until I tried it myself. These dogs love to run and the outfitter that had thenknew all 50 of them under his care by name. The bond between trainer and dogs was very obvious. I loved the ridealso learned that those dogs live to run. Theyll be very sad and unhappy dogs on someones lap, chained , or on a yard. Ill definitely be going mushing again next winter.
I agree. It would be cruel to not allow the dogs to do what they love - RUN! They seem so happy and eager to go. Just like people have different interests, so do dogs. They all don't have being a lap dog in their genes.
It didn't cost quite that much back then and was also cheaper since it was booked privately. A lot of the expense is in the helicopter ride to get to the glacier. I didn't video the entire ride.
Yeah the helicopter ride would be sweet probably. The view looks amazing while you're sledding. I'm sure it was great - I just thought it would be longer ;)
btw, are you a member of cruiscritic as mommabean? Or did you used to be? I'm kingsgirl ;)
bethany! Get your facts before you spew bullshit, ok? I help train sled dogs here in Alaska! The cost in this "summer" trip was high up on an ice field, only reached by Helicopter! Of course it costs alot! Get real!
I booked through the cruise... but I just checked my cruise file and it was 500 a piece, I would totally do it because it is the memory of a lifetime and you will love it because you get to play with the dogs and can help the musher out, plus you go there on a helicopter ride, which was the most beautiful of my 6 helicopter rides in life, my pilot was very helpful and told us what everything was... so it is a two for one deal in a way! i recommend it to every person who is going on a cruise!!!!
They look odd because the tug line is is at an angle to the direction he's pulling. Also if the line in between the legs it, well, sorta rubs certain parts of the dog. . .
The tugline is at an angle so they tend to dogtrack slightly when pulling hard. The dog also has the tug line under them between the legs sometimes. If these dogs could do nothing else they'd pull, they crave it.
You used a sled or did you skijor? was it an accidental breeding. We almost had that in our kennel but the bitch didn't catch, thank goodness. Never let a intact male run around if you have a bitch in heat :( LOL
Theres a reason there are more than a million dogs put down in the country a year. It's because idiots like you don't care if hundreds of thousands of unwanted puppies are born. Spay or Nuter your dog and you could be saving the lives of a hundred dogs. Oh and BTW, the dog doesn't even know.
What are you talking about? You can't fix a dog until the dog is born. Duh! And no, I don't think I am the best dog handler. I have seen handlers who are much better than I am. The dog has absolutly no idea that it can't breed anymore. I would rather fix a dog and save some dogs lives than not fix and let mroe dog get put down. What is a disgrace is people not realizing the damage of accidental or unwanted litters.
Aiboluvr1 You have no clue about Sled dogs,or mushing,or Alaska! I live up here, and have helped a friend train his dogs for the Iditarod. You probably don't even know what that is! These dogs love to run,and this breed of dog has been doing this for generations! What is sad is people in the lower 48,big,hot citys with these Alaskan dogs, who are tied up,hot and bored! Chew on that! You ignorant lower 48er! Kiss my longtime Alaskan ass, as well as my happy Siberian sled dogs ass!!!!
For your info, I live in Alaska. I do know what the Iditarod and I love the sport of dog sledding. I know that these dogs love to run, and I agree that is is sad that They miss treat the dogs in the lower states.

Intact? All dogs should be intact. How would you like to not be 'in-tact'?
Animals have thoughts and feelings too you know.
Fucking disgrace.
