Bret Hart joining NWO was idiotic. If there was a time for Bret to join NWO, it was late '97/early '98 when he initially joined WCW and was coming off of the Montreal Screw Job where nobody knew what direction he would go. by 2000, the NWO itself had more than run it's course
Curt Hennig joining the NWO didn't make a damn lick of sense. Him being someone who would turn their back on tradition (especially after the AA ceremony on Nitro) didn't ring at all. Everyone DIDN'T need to join the NWO!
Stephanie's swerve to join HHH in 1999/2000 was GREAT. From HHH ruining the Test/Steph wedding by showing a video of a passed out Steph and him getting married, to Steph's evil ass grin a few weeks later in the ring on RAW revealing that she and HHH had been in on it all the time and wanted to boot out big daddy Vince and take over the company...great stuff
HHH's swerve on HBK in July 2002 when everyone thought they would reunite DX was great--and touched off an epic feud
Best swerve was on submission round 3 where Eric made the comparisons between Jeff Hardy and Michael Jackson. It looked like he was going to blackball MJ but ended up doing it to Jeff Hardy lol. But seriously, I thought one of the best swerves was Brian Pillmans heel turn on his first night in ECW. One minute they worshipped him like a god and 5 minutes later they were ready to kill him, great stuff.
@RedTurtleRanger10 Yes, agreed, and notice that Pillman got HEAT, like a heel is supposed to. He didn't get cheers & laughter like a lot of heels have done since & still do.
I thought Curt Hennig joining NWO was a great swerve which I didnt see coming and they pulled it off really well. A much worse NWO swerve for me was Dusty Rhodes joining! It just didnt work at all for me, even though Schiavone sold it brilliantly with his stunned walkout. Nobody wants to boo the American Dream!
excellent show.i expected to see triple h & stone cold becoming the power trip.that one shocked me right away unlike vince & austin where i was just cheering & yelling for austin to nail the rock hit afterwards what happend lol.
@edvhou812 I disagree with that to an extent. wrestling can be crazy and bombastic but it should make sense unto itself self. I actually believe that fiction should make more sense than reality
One of the best I've ever seen was Arn Anderson turning on Dustin Rhodes at Bash at the Beach 94. Dustin wrestles the whole match and finally gets the tag after being beat on and Arn gives him a slick DDT, even though the WCW camera crew managed to fuck up the shot...
Heh, I have the actual event on my laptop, the minute Arn tags in they go to a shot of Meng on the outside trying to console Col Parker, by the time they cut to the ring Dustin is down and Arn is on the outside taunting the fans.
@Cdubya Maybe they corrected it on the VHS and that was the live PPV? I dunno, either that or I'm just misremembering it because it's been years since I watched it but I remember it being seen clearly as it happened.
I think perhaps one of the best swerves ever was when Earthquake first appeared. The Warrior and Dino Bravo were going to have a push up compitition and Bravo did it with Jimmy Hart on his back. Then they decided to pick the biggest guy in the crowd for the Warrior. Well EVERYONE was pointing at Earthquake. Looked like a normal fan. Was laughing about it. He was in the bowl seats. Then when he was in the ring he squashed the Warrior. Total shock because this guy was picked by the FANS.
Looks so weird and awkward when they put the table cloth over their laps. Like little children almost. I thought it was just one guy, but Will Vafides, but the other Will does as well. Apparently thanks to this show i've learned or developed a new pet peeve. Regardless, good show ect ect.
MrKko9873, a good swerve with Neidhart was his interference in the title match at King of the Ring 1994, making sure Bret kept his title -- then revealing his actual loyalty to Owen by helping him win the tournament, thus setting up an inevitable title match between the two brothers.
One I still remember vividly as a kid -- when Andre the Giant "defeated" Hogan on SNME in '88, thanks to the help of Earl Hebner's twin brother referee!
Best: Eric Bischoff joining the n.W.o in 1996. It eventually led to the evil owner with mega heel group vs. babyface cliche but this had not been really done before by blurring the lines of reality/fantasy.
Worst: Rikishi running over Stone Cold in 2000. I think that it could have elevated HHH or a guy like Kurt Angle as the mega heel but instead it was just some guy inserted into the position who had no previous connection to Austin.
@popguru85 After Rikishi heel turn he really didn't go no where after this but aleast he did work with Big names during that time period and getting big money for that like Austin, HHH, Rocky, Taker, and Angle, but he had to make a choice is either work with big names and and getting a big profit of it or he'll stay with too cool and be love with the crowd which he did before.
@stonecold337 yea but still from a storyline perspective, it really didnt make any sense. To me, it just felt like he was just thrown in there with no real direction.
Another good one was the British Bulldogs defeating the Hart Foundation in a two out of three falls match on SNME in 1987. It was a title match, and the crowd was crazy for the Bulldogs to win back the belts. When they won the second fall, the place became unglued, and McMahon was exclaiming: "Finally, it's come back to the British Bulldogs!" And Jesse Ventura starts laughing, saying "I get to be the spoiler!...There was a disqualification in the first fall! And you can't win a title on a DQ..."
A bad one: Ric Flair and Mr. Perfect showing up at the SS92 WWF title match between Warrior and Savage, to reveal that they were on the side of...neither man. Right. Great match, but that whole element of intrigue just didn't work at all.
A good one: Mr. Perfect counselling Marc Mero to the IC title -- then turning on him to help Triple H win the belt instead. It's a shame Hennig left the WWF soon after, he had gotten some great heat for that incident.
Stephanie McMahon turning on her dad and joining her "husband" HHH in his power trip was one of the Best swerves. Especially when Stephanie became the top female heel!
im not sure if this would be a best or worst (i lean more best) but what about Sting's angle going into Fall brawl 1996 the mystery surrounding whether he would be with wcw or nwo and in the end even though he helped wcw he also left them for the kill Eventually this ended up setting up the now infamous Hogan/Sting matchup as well.
Eric question? Did you really believe that Dibease swerve on Nitro? I didn't. Remembering all the crap he did for years, all the money and the lies when he did the 4 next week 5, I just said Oh crap another NWO guy great. You don't believe in the devil.
One of the best swerves was Sting vs The Black Scorpion at the Clash in Sept. 1990. They had this great build up, Sting was on edge going into the match. He even said in his promo before the match "There is no goofing off now, I gotta find out who this guy is, lets get this straightened out." They have the match, the whole time there is an uneasy aura. The announcers are trying to figure out who it is. Sting beats him, lets see who it is and SURPRISE, the "real" Scorpion appears on the ramp.
Cool Show. On e thing you notice about the Scott Steiner swerve is that the double ax handle was symbolic to him stabbing Rick in the back and the wink to the Outsiders before it and him attacking Ted after the match was great too. The Batista swerve to Evolution in RAW 2005 was great and an underrated swerve is when Barry Windham joined the House by turning on Luger in 1988 in a Tag Title match against Arn and Tully costing himself and Luger the tag belts.
One of the worst swerves has to be when Sting turned heel in 1999. The promo the night after Fall Brawl 99 suggested that it was a grand scheme for years. It was terrible, and the fans could care less.
I think it was great when Stone Cold turned heel twice in 2001. They need Cena to turn heel now. I believe every big time superstar should have significant runs as both a heel and a face.

how about a face swerve? hulk hogan surprisingly saving macho man from honky tonk man and the hart foundation. thus making savage a face.
worst: any time sting tried to be a heel. every time sting would still do his face antics even though he was suppose to be a heel.
