Actually the german subs are not nuclear subs. The newest ones of the dolphin class drive by hydrogene fuel cells.

They might be able to fire nuclear missiles. And the dolphins might have better stealth qualities then the bigger nuclear subs. But I´m not sure about that. At least they have very low waste heat for example.
