Aside from the bit about Scorpion being a Lin Kuei, yes. Scorpion was a member of a ninja clan called the Shirai Ryu (they split off from the Lin Kuei). In MKM, Quan Chi murders/The Brotherhood Of The Shadow Scorpion's entire clan and then proceeds to murder the families of each member and used the bones of the grandmaster as payment to the Lin Kuei (after Scorpion had been killed). Sub-Zero killed Scorpion merely because they were "the deadliest of enemies" and after a sacred map.

Sub-Zero fought and defeated Scorpion again in Hell. Scorpion kills him, Tundra becomes the new Sub-Zero, Scorpion sees him spare an opponent and feels that he as become as bad as her percieved his mortal enemy, so vows the role of protector of SZII. Joins forces with and Earth again later in MK3 and then just before MK4 Quan Chi decieves Scorpion into believing that SZII aided his elder brother in killing Scorpion's family.

At some point, not shown, his familiy is killed by Quan Chi and frames Sub-Zero, the younger brother of NS for the murder

Scorpion comes back in MK4 ready to kill SZII; but as we see here he finds out Quan Chi is really the bad guy;
